  1. It's been determined: http://comicbook.com/marvel/2017/04/11/x-men-gold-artist-officially-terminated-by-marvel/
  2. He has every right to express his religious/political views as he has done many times on his FB page. What he didn't have the right to do was subvert the work he was being paid to do without the approval of his employer. Looks like he's paid quite a price. http://www.newsarama.com/33977-x-men-gold-artist-ardian-syaf-my-career-is-over.html
  3. This. Marvel hasn't said anything about recalling the current printings. Now, if the mainstream national news picks up on this story this week (which mainly came to light over the weekend), Marvel could eventually issue a recall if the furor starts to rise.
  4. This has been Marvel's only statement on the issue so far: “The mentioned artwork in X-Men Gold #1 was inserted without knowledge behind its reported meanings. These implied references do not reflect the views of the writer, editors or anyone else at Marvel and are in direct opposition of the inclusiveness of Marvel Comics and what the X-Men have stood for since their creation. This artwork will be removed from subsequent printings, digital versions, and trade paperbacks and disciplinary action is being taken.” Given that this all came to light over the weekend and mainstream press hasn't picked it up thus far, this could be it, or there could be more coming if it catches fire in the mainstream national news. Meanwhile speculators are going gaga over the book, since they are expecting a recall (which Marvel doesn't mention at this point), so either way, Marvel is making money. G. Willow Wilson (also a Muslim and writer of Ms. Marvel) had her own take on the controversy: "This is all to say that Ardian Syaf can keep his garbage philosophy. He has committed career suicide; he will rapidly become irrelevant. But his nonsense will continue to affect the scant handful of Muslims who have managed to carve out careers in comics. From what I can deduce off of Facebook, it appears he is trying to claim the Charlie Hebdo defense…ie, he doesn’t mean anything by it; we just don’t understand the nuance and subtly of the local bigotry. Much good may it do him. Goodbye, Ardian Syaf. We hardly knew ye, which is just as well."
  5. It spits in the face of everything the X-Men title has been about since it's inception. He should be fired immediately.
  6. It's not like Hokie or Kav have been on here every day demanding photos. It's been four months. If you haven't been inspired by now, you should probably just pass him on to whomever was next in line.
  7. Probably right, but I would think at some point and time, Negan would have been to the Kingdom, if only once to set up the initial deal.
  8. That's always been a glaring point in this series; Negan takes everyone's guns (though everyone seemed to have some in the finale), yet he lets Ezekiel keep a freaking tiger!?!
  9. Dave is great. He did this one for my daughter.
  10. While I found Finn Jones, likable enough as Danny, you're both correct in the fact that an actor with a martial arts background would have certainly improved the show. As Vulture pointed out, The Actor Who Could Have Been Iron Fist, Marvel/Netflix probably missed the boat by not casting Lewis Tan as Iron Fist, instead relegating him to the Drunken Master version of Zhou Cheng in episode 8. I think he was the highlight of that episode and completely stole the show with his scenes.
  11. You're entitled to your opinion, I'll stand by mine. If you've found a critic that falls in line with your opinion of the show, then more power to you. However, I enjoyed it, it certainly wasn't the pure drek it was made out to be and in my opinion there were several early reviews and criticisms that didn't go beyond the fact that Marvel/Netflix didn't take the opportunity to cast an actor of Asian decent as Danny Rand. No one is hiding behind anything and it's hardly a disservice to all of us, that's a bit melodramatic. I didn't say it was a perfect show, very few of them are and if you want to set aside your suspension of disbelief and pick apart every flaw as the AV Club is doing episode by episode, that's certainly possible.
  12. You're right, I'd forgotten about the whole cash offer. #KavKilledPIF
  13. For the first few minutes, I thought they were actually trying to do a silent episode. The writer's have made Rosita's character awful and they tried to redeem themselves a bit by having her share some information about her past, which means she'll probably be dead soon.
  14. I wrapped it up last night and completely enjoyed it. As for the first six episodes, the same six that Marvel & Netflix released as a preview, It's like the media wanted Marvel and Netflix to fail ... I think one writes an article and then they all just rewrite the same thing. Most probably didn't even watch the episodes. Even though the character is and has always been white, the majority of the bad reviews criticize Marvel for the white-washing and appropriation of Asian culture. Ignoring the fact that they themselves are being hypocritical by assuming that because the character has a background in martial arts, he should automatically be Asian. And It would have been fine as well if Marvel/Netflix had decided to cast an Asian actor as Danny Rand, but for critics to disregard the show because in this instance they chose to stay faithful to the source material is asinine. Most of them missed the point of the show/comic...a rich kid growing up in cutthroat corporate America realized the value of non-monetary culture. There are a few flaws, but overall I think it's very much on par with the rest of Marvel's Netflix offerings.
  15. Early review is in! http://www.slashfilm.com/american-gods-review/
  16. Yes, probably a commission piece. That was my first thought. The art looks like it could possibly be his, but I haven't been able to find any examples of his where he prints his name that way. Most of his signatures are in cursive.
  17. It's a blank, so Spidey is on it because that's the character that was requested of the artist. When dealing with blank cover sketches, the title and what's on it don't necessarily coincide.
