  1. Not that i don't like a good variant, but why is legacy numbering on this so important? The 150 issues hasn't even one consecutive series... they were just like, we've made 150 venom books, lets just start at 150 and make it a big thing! Besides, wasn't the significant issue in #6 when Eddie became venom again?

There is never a mention of his "first appearance". I got CGC to change the notation for Venom vs Carnage from "nothing" to "Patrick Mulligan becomes Toxin". Their reasoning for not putting "first appearance" in a response to my inquires, was that Toxin is a symbiote and a spawn from Carnage, meaning that his first true appearance would be considered in the first appearance of Carnage.

Which to me doesn't make sense, that would mean every symbiote on Earth couldn't hold a first appearance title since they all came from Venom.

So, I fought for about a month with CGC about this before finally just excepting the notation.

Lol! so, damien waynes first appearance is DET27? he is the spawn of batman.

Going back to the status quo isn't the answer either. They really have no idea what they're doing, no one seems to have much of a vision as best I can tell, they're just trying to go where the money is. Maybe that'll work, maybe it won't, but it doesn't interest me too much.

Like a bag full of squirrels. lots of action, no actual progress.

  4. My biggest gripe, and the reason I say its laziness is because instead of creating new characters to pursue current/political trends, they just half it and swap characters. What? Captain america sounds really white? BAM! Sam Wilson! OMG Iron mans a misogynistic ? WHAM! Pepper. "Very smooth Marvel." That was a quote from my all time fav hero. SARCASM MAN. He has the power to belittle criminals into submission. Then his side kick "Mockingbird" (Who is an actual literal mockingbird) repeats his brutal quips.

    God i'm a genius.

  5. I think they miss the point of making change by changing the characters instead of the story. you could go in a million directions with these original characters, and by keeping the characters the same. Changing the character or killing them doesn't make a good read. it's a lazy method. Could you imagine if they ever changed Santa Clause to his brother Jeff? no. I can't either.

  6. Why bother?

So, I'm super pumped about Eddie Brock becoming Venom again and i was super pumped to buy a couple covers i love, but then I thought... whats the point? Is he gonna be bad venom from now on, or is there going to be ANOTHER change? It's like all those big events from the big two that state they will change the landscape of whatever universe forever... but do they? I mean, are we just spinning our wheels now? will any storyline actually stick or is it all just setup for some other storyline that will retcon everything?

I want THE Wolverine back, but only because i thought it was dumb to kill him off in the first place. All of these big fights, all of the NEW characters taking over the mantle of originals is getting boring and frustrating.

I'm excluding everyone except the modern collectors on this. Why do you still collect? Everything seems to suck, and the only reason i can see to buy is for the cover art, which to be honest I can google and print in super high res glossy and it looks amazing! I mean, I still buy the books, but for ones I can't afford i.e. Wolverine #1 Deadpool cover by JSC.

I think pushing a ice pick into your ear might be less painful than what you're trying to attempt. I can't imagine doing this with any major Marvel character given the endless reboots and reimaginings, the movie universe changes, and the complete abandonment of traditional continuity.

I know. It kind of defeats the purpose of collecting if there is not a fluid coherent timeline or story. then it's just pretty pictures which i guess is what comics are now anyway.

  8. Wolverine cannon vs. alt timeline?

So, I'm trying to put together a collection of key Wolverine books and i'm not really sure whats canon and whats not. So knowing how convoluted Marvel's timelines can be, i'm finding it difficult to decide which books are important and which are not. for example, Marvel Comics Presents Weapon X #72 is listed as his (Origin) and also has no mention of "Bone claws" whereas Wolverine the Origin depicts his "real" origin being James Howlett, plus bone claws, plus origin of sabertooth etc. This is later confirmed in Wolverine #4 (Vol. 4) that Thomas Logan is his father, which means the Origin series (1-6) are canon? In which case, MCP Weapon X isn't? I'm so confused!

So, Bone claws, no bone claws, whats real, what isn't?!? bah!

Honestly, I think anything above 1:100 is crazy. At least with 1:100 for something like ASM, there are probably a number of comic shops that qualify just from their normal orders.

Granted, I usually ignore most variants with a price tag higher than $15. Most are just pretty covers with crappy interiors. Oh well, guess the interior doesn't really matter once they're slabbed.

Now you get it. Welcome to moderns.

  10. I think it's because the industry has stagnated. how many times can marvel or DC rewrite the same stories? Image is kicking with new stories, but popular characters with cr@ppy stories aren't moving anything anywhere. We need a game changer.

Nicely done...other than the Adolfo cover I think Im done. Not a fan of the Bianchi or Quietly covers...

Not to be a downer but, anyone think these will go anywhere? I've heard the story is good, and it'll be their first team-up (I think) but i'm trying to limit my spec books so I haven't picked this one up yet.

CHU announcement about Low by Remender

Normally wouldn't think much of these sales except Seven to Eternity blew up and this was a better story imo. I don't remember the print run but a buddy got me the SDCC #1. The number on that was 500. Keep your eyes on the $1 boxes for copies of #1A. That will likely be the book to get if this breaks out. 2c

Better link to Low #1 sales on ebay

I missed that one. Send me a couple copies so I can be in the loop again! lol

I would recommend reading What If 4 as well if you like that storyline. As well as What if 108 which continues ASM 429-430 both were good stories.

I jst googled them! Added to my list!!! I think they went a little far with all of the symbiotes, only in terms of lack of substance. I love venom. That New Avengers cover with Venom/Wolverine is so aswesome!!!

    Thanks for the recommendations

  14. Ya, I don't really count Zenescope. Despite their sales, I don't know anyone who actually reads their books, they just collect the covers. I was just curious because (IMHO) Aspen has some great characters and I think they could do well in a cinematic or tv universe. I agree with Turner being gone too soon. Great art and stories. Wish I got to meet him.

They also announced an Edge of Venomverse mini featuring these venomized characters today.

Ok, i'm not gonna buy these individual books but i'm definitely gonna buy the TPB. that sounds cool. I liked when Carnage bonded with Captain america and a few others in Carnage USA. Awesome book.

  16. I for one love this idea!

Because no store will be able to purchase the required amount of books, and marvel will be scratching their heads wondering why, and then eventually someone will pull their head out of their and say, wait a minute, this is ridiculous!!! what we really need is a 1:10,000 variant!!! and then marvel will crash and burn and the matrix will reboot and we'll be back in the golden age... which doesn't bode well for me... brown folks weren't super popular back then...

actually, i change my mind. I don't like this one bit. I like my hockey and maple syrup way too much.

  17. So, Aspen comics has been around for quite a while. They like to put out a new Fathom #1 every year for some reason, but other than that i'm wondering about everyone's thoughts on their properties.

I don't follow any of their books currently, but back in the 90's when i was a kid I bought all the cool foil covers and stuff. Considering they are still around, I'm wondering if anyone sees their characters becoming relevant at any point. I like Witchblade, Darkness, and Fathom, but they are so under the radar. Though, I have to think they are selling because the company stays afloat.

    Thoughts?

I have to think that Image treasury edition is rarely going to be really high grade. I have two copies of it, and both have some issues. Every copy I've ever seen of it has had some issues.

Mine is def 9.6/9.8. Got it from someone on here... forget who... but ya, wish CGC would grade treasury. It's my only treasury and I baby it. Wish there were more options to store and display though.
