  1. Might depend on the show but at a very small show CGC had a tamper proof bag that the book was sealed into and it was given back to me, after a signing. If that's the case there would have to be a CGC rep at each signing location to remove comic book from bag for multiple signings and then return to a new tamper proof bag. When done you bring the bags to CGC booth and they confirm that the bags are sealed and then they process your order. You pay the artists for their sigs (unless it's Joe Staton) but only pay the one fee for the Signature grading on multiple signed books.

I’ve tried lighter fluid sparingly over the years on comics and magazines: it always lifted or smeared some ink. Experiment on some lower grade drek from the same era if possible before proceeding with any solvent. 2c

As I mentioned, I have used lighter fluid on blister pack cardboard with success but not on comic books. I would think different printing methods give different results. Experimenting is very good advise.

I recently submitted several books through my LCS.  approximately 30.  I am a paid member of CGC.  Not one of my submissions have grader notes available?  Please explain how Grader notes work.  Thank you.

Unfortunately notes are given at the grader's discretion and it seems that CGC, in its attempt to "improve" turn-around times, probably leaves little time for notes.... Although, if your grades are in the 9.4 to 9.8 range it's common not to have notes.

Remove as much of the bag as possible and then use a hairdryer to soften the glue. This will help lift the remaining plastic off the cover. And residual glue can be cleaned with naphtha or any solvent that will not lift the ink. Don’t use lacquer thinner or olive oil. I have seen the results of others who tried them on glue. Not pretty.

I knew Joey would come through with a solution. Particularly like the hairdryer step.  Is there a preferred source for naphtha other than "lighter fluid".  I use this for cleaning many things around the house and at work.

I wasn't aware the issue has gotten better. I can't really notice them on the slabs I display. Maybe it's the angle and the limited lighting or it's possible newton rings are far less common now.

Hasn't gotten better. Recent box of 25 had 23  go back...  20 because of large areas of Newton rings. Last order of 100 books had 16 go back with maybe 12 having large NR.

CGC did not label it as 2nd so I've assumed it was a 1st printing.  Why would they not indicate the printing either way just to provide clarity? It's not in the grader notes either.

Ebay lists a Snatch 1 CGC slab which is labeled 2nd print. CGC generally doesn't indicate a 1st print on their labels. Either way, auction house might be full of beans..... or maybe the grade for your copy is not listed on the CGC Census for 1st Printing.  What grade is your Snatch #1?

Underground comic from the 60's was sent to auction as a First printing but the auction house is now claiming it's a second printing. From the historical research I've been able to pull together, the only way to test this is to check the interior pages as one page was changed from 1st to 2nd.  CGC did not label it as 2nd so I've assumed it was a 1st printing.  Why would they not indicate the printing either way just to provide clarity? It's not in the grader notes either.

If your research is accurate how would the auction house know what printing it it? Have they given you an explanation?

What is the comic book in question?

  8. The magazine cases are not sealed on the sides but there shouldn't be a large gap. You can contact customer service and if they see a problem you can send it back for a no-fee reholder.  As for not being centered, the holder is designed for all the different dimensions of magazines so smaller ones are put off to the right and there are plastic holders keeping the magazine in place.

simply fill out another submission form under mechanical error. Collectors Comics on YouTube has a decent tutorial he made recently on this

Per MattM CS    "In order to send in MEs, they must first be approved by our customer service team. Please send us an image of each book in question showing the reason for the return AND the certification number of the slab IN THE SAME IMAGE. This will allow our team to process your ME request as quickly as possible. If books are sent in for ME submissions but not approved ahead of time, this could result in reholder fees to your account. I just got back a box this week and defect free as well.

    That's a first in a long time.

Inspector #5 stamped on the invoice.

Good to hear.... Unfortunately, when I finally got through my boxes of 98 slabs 16 are going back. Mostly from large areas of Newton rings, a batch from one box with debris and one mislabeled ( should have been Canadian Price Variant). Good news is all the cases were in excellent shape... no scratches or scuffs which had plagued my last few orders.
