  1. that's not an unpopular opinion, that's everyone's opinion. simon was the songwriter and harmony guy, with a very average voice, while garfunkel was the guy with the beautiful soaring voice. Thank you very much, i mean its CLEAR Paul isnt much of a singer he just was a great songwriter. When I hear people talk about how great Paul Simon is, I just think "yeah, to bad he sings a lot of his own songs". Neither of them were ever as good as solo artists as they were a duo. Simon was more successful but it was a shadow of what he was creating earlier with Art.
  2. Surely this is what most people think? Who can seriously doubt that Garfunkel had the stronger singing chops than Simon... I dont know, I know a lot of people who think Paul is a talented singer. I love his music but honestly his singing on its own does nothing for me at all.
  3. I can see how a minority might prefer solo Paul Simon (re: solo Jim Lee) over Simon & Garfunkel (re: Lee & Williams), but, as good an album as Graceland was, I'll take Sounds of Silence and Bridge Over Troubled Water any day. So, stand up and take a bow, Scott Williams - you are the Art Garfunkel of comic book artists! Unpopular Opinion #132: I always thought Art Garfunkel was on ever level a superior singer than Paul Simon. Paul had an average (for the genre) voice but was an amazing songwriter.
  4. This thread is interesting because of whats being said and whats not. I am someone (some say simple lol) who likes clear concise bullet points so i often times boil things to them to cut down on the background noise. I like things to make sense, because in reality they always do as long as you know enough of the facts. What (I think) I know: 1. General consensus: This is an acute fast developing price bubble To what extent/percentage that bubble is effecting price: no consensus. Cause of this recent high speed bubble: unknown 2. This price bubble has effected all graded copies Copies without significant/noticeable marvel chipping are on the top end of this spike, surpassing superior graded copies with noticeable chipping CGC copies are the only ones truly being effected (as of now). Structure/back cover issues do not seem to have much of an adverse effect on the price affected books. PQ and Back cover issues are relatively minor considerations for the effected books. 3. Many of these sales prices are not showing up in GPA, so its ability to be tracked has been more challenging. 4. The population of CGC graded copies is hard to judge so rarity in grade is hard to determine Copies cracked/pressed/reslabbed are not recorded as far as i can see so many of those 1666 graded universals are duplicates CGC does not sort data by defect, so you cant see how many copies are white pages or have marvel chipping on them. They effect desirability but how many copies of each cant be quantified at this time. What I would LIKE to know: 1. If/When there is a correction in pricing what will that look like? Will all gains in those books be reset to 2016 prices or lower? Or will the high run up have a permanent effect on the books price (it cant fall enough to offset its gains basically) Why is this bubble occurring right now? What happened in the last 6-8 months that didn't happen in the years previous? 2. Will this dramatic price increase have an effect on related silver age mega-key marvels? Anyway that's my thoughts on this, Mostly questions lol. I don't know how normal this entire phenomena is for the market. Other than referencing a Hulk 1 price run up, this appears to be somewhat unique pricing wise. What I would also like to see if a list of all the record auction prices of the last 6 months since most don't appear to be on GPA. would be nice to see the list of those recent bubble type pricing and see how they correlate grade/defect wise.
  5. ok, so we have seen multiple auctions now with a pretty consistent story being told: This book is somehow now worth much more than it was last year. Proportions and scale can be argued, but the narrative cant be. My question is simply this, why? That's what we all seem to be dancing around. Some have theories that its books that are upgrade-able, some have theories its the market catching up all at once, among a host of other reasons. Question is simple: Why are we seeing these prices jump? We have now like 7-8 examples across multiple platforms of very difficult to square prices occurring, its clearly happening, so why is it?
  6. Wait what!,! No one would pay that would they? I thought autograph collecting went out with animation cels in the 90s. Nope, infact it got massive. There is an autograph show every weekend somewhere. Disney does these things called "Celebrations" like big convention just for star wars with a heavy focus on star wars autograph collecting. Tens of thousands of people show up every year, pay millions and millions, for live autographs from the celebrities. What would really shock you is how much athletes charge for their autographs. There are private signings and events for autographs in every state every day. Local players, national famous guys, etc. If you ever want to have your mind blown type in "CGC signature Series" and just sort by highest per. Or just look up PSA/DNA or STEINER Autograph and look at highest.
  7. "Under Better"....Not sure if that was auto-correct on intentional but that is the BEST way to describe this.
  8. I think its legit to talk about prices of AF 15 in the "i bought or want to buy an AF 15" thread so im always glad to see noteworthy auctions or prices on this book. Having said that, Im beyond shocked at these prices. Even if there is a big pull back, the market will be so effected by these prices they will still likely crush the 2016 prices.
  9. I believe also though, that the collector also got the publishing rights to them as well?
  10. Suicide Squad cost 175,000,000.00 to make and brought in 750,000,000.00 globally on ticket sales. Not sure what the DVD and rentals are at , but again im not sure what marketing cost either so maybe those are washes?
  11. To be fair, Both the 2014 and 2016 TMNT movies costs 260,000,000.00 to produce and brought in foreign and domestic 740,000,000.00 box office. Id make the arguement you make 3 quarters of a billion dollars in ticket sales in 2 years, you are still culturally relevant. We treat the 2016 film like its a bomb, but it cost 135million and brought in like 220 million. I wouldnt be surprised if there wasnt a TMNT 3.
  12. You see it a lot in the world of autographs. OP was doing a private sit down signing with Harrison Ford. They were charging between 600-900 per item, for nearly double they will have it inscribed (To Mark for example) for you. They had the offer up for a day before they sold out. In that day it was open I saw someone do a BIN auction on Ebay where they would "offer" the buyer one of the autographs and the option to get it personalized for I think 30% over OP's store cost. Clever, but shady/sad as heck.
  13. So, in comparison NM 98 Cover sells for more than BA 12 cover right? NM 98 being 200k+, BA being 100-125k? That feel right?
  14. Red Dwarf Collector: A collector who frequently tells you they used to have a HUGE collection back when "art was more (fill in blank)!" before they had a huge sell off leaving them with the small relatively meager holdings they have now, only a fraction of its previous (supposed) glory.
  15. I have a sketch book from the 90s with a wolverine sketch in it, PM me if interested ill find a scan.

  17. Had a good experience this auction. All but one lot sold for what I had hoped, and with 2 really exceeding expectations It averaged to what I had hoped. Picked up a cover, Thing 10. Not sure why but it just struck me, told myself if it was 3k or less I would go for it. Came close so why not.
  18. Dilbert sunday. Never seen one sell, was hoping for 2k but ended a few hundred short. Still good, but you always want more!
  19. My first lot just sold, low end of what I hoped but still good.
  20. Hopefully he mixed in a few cases of Early MTG cards too.
  21. The way a comic book looks is an important determinant of the willingness of prospective buyers to buy it? Grade/PQ meaningless, what the front image looks like is all the value?
  22. wow so a 4.0 that looks great for grade sells for 38.5k, but in the same auction a 6.0 that looks maybe over graded sells 50k+. What to make of that.
  23. Spine and corner wear is pretty strong, 6.5-7.0. Its cover is so nice though outside of spine (front and back) 7.0 can happen but being a black cover that shows everything 6.5 more likely.
  24. I have a friend named Jim who doesn't collect comic books but loves movies and by extension the MCU among other things. He is your average "familar-with-but-doesnt-collect-comic's" type of guy we all know and hang out with. If i want to know what is going to be valuable/go up in price, I ask myself one question: "What would impress Jim?". Its a simple question that never fails, what would impress someone outside of our hobby? Would Suspense 3 get him? Probably not. Would Tales To Astonish 27 work? Nope, not very exciting cover and no costumes. Would AF 15 first appearance of Spider-man with one of the most iconic and widely pop-culture known covers of all time Impress him? Yeah, that's a guaranteed every time affirmative. Any book that does that or close to, will hold its value or go up. Simple as that. Anything a non-collector can instantly identify as rare/cool/valuable/special by just describing it in one sentence, or just showing a pic of it on your phone, THAT piece is powerful, and THAT PIECE will go up more than others. I think this plays also into my "Social Media" theory about this books price spike. Take that instant cache homerun book, and add to it beautiful chip free cover with decent color and centering (who cares whats on the inside or back in this scenario), and you get lots of interest and new money coming in, pushing the supply of books that meet that criteria to new record prices.
  25. Wars been coming for 30 years...until it finally hits im buying comics!
