  1. You're talking SA here, not common BA/CA. Those books will never be "cheap" again, no matter what the show does, especially in high grade. Never. And I'm not sure how any of you high minded nerds are able to make such bold proclamations about the final quality of this show based on nothing more than a single poster and a 15 second voice over ad . I think you will be in for a pleasant surprise once the final product is revealed (unless of course your bias is so entrenched because it's "not the X-men", that anything about it will automatically "suck" in your opinion). -J.
  2. Dell'otto sells more than Hughes, Ross, Art and Neil Adams (new stuff). McFarlane works intermittently now, so his new stuff is few and far between so may be perceived as a bigger deal, when it comes out. In fact, the only modern artist that out sells Dell'otto in either the new release or modern back issue modern market is JSC (who also releases much more material than Dell'otto through his own "store" and through ratio incentives). Artists get paid more for the incentives than they do for regular covers, JSC sells direct now and Dell'otto sticks to incentives (while doing the occasional store exclusive). Each artist is working the way they choose in a matter that they believe will make them the most money and I don't begrudge anyone the right to make a living (even though I believe JSC is flooding market with too much product at the moment). Dell'otto also is responsible for two of the most valuable modern books in the top 12, while JSC has four. McFarlane has one. All the others you mention have zero between them (and all but Wrightson and Stevens have done modern variant covers). I'm not sure what you really meant with your statement, but right now in the modern cover variant market JSC and Dell'otto are absolutely numbers one and two, with the likes of Hughes, et al in a cluster in a distant third behind them. -J.
  3. Actually looks to be rebounding a bit. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=Fantastic+four+45&_in_kw=1&_ex_kw=&_sacat=0&LH_Sold=1&_mPrRngCbx=1&_udlo=500&_udhi=1000000&_samilow=&_samihi=&_sadis=15&_stpos=91604&_sargn=-1%26saslc%3D1&_salic=1&_sop=12&_dmd=1&_ipg=200&LH_Complete=1 -J.
  4. That's great, I've seen some of your books and you have some amazing stuff. While I'm sure we all want "the perfect book" (and that standard is different for everyone), I think most of us mere mortals are happy simply owning the best of what we can find and afford. -J.
  5. Seriously? Read a book man. You're so enslaved to the "PQ" on the label you probably don't even know that CGC originally didn't want to put it on their labels at all because they knew how it's generally just a shot in the dark, bordering on pure BS. "Age" does not- I repeat- does not- cause a book to turn colours. Poor storage conditions can compromise the lignin in the paper (look it up!), but that doesn't necessarily cause the paper to turn different colours either. The sun could bleach a book white and it could still have brittle pages. So learn about what you're trying to lecture me about before you try to lecture me. -J.
  6. Paper oxidation (ie foxing) is the cause of the vast majority of edge tanning that you might see on books. That isn't my opinion it's science. The oxidation is what causes paper to lose its suppleness, and that is actually what CGC is referencing with their "PQ"(="Page Quality", not "page colour") designations on their labels (as wishy washy as they may be with it). The literal "colour" has virtually nothing to do with anything, as that tanning that you see is simply the effects of the oxidation of usually ferrous or copper on the paper. And it may not "look" nice but it has nothing to do with the integrity of the paper. None of this should be confused with the actual browning that happens to paper when its lignin is destroyed by things such as prolonged exposure to sunlight and/or humidity, which causes the paper to become brittle (the only "PQ" designation CGC uses that, ironically, actually is a "PQ" ). -J.
  7. I think one to grab that isn't a variant, something obscure, or an obvious first appearance is Tec 880, which is also surprisingly tough in a blue 9.8 (only 88 on the census out of 360+ copies total). -J.
  8. Solid blue chip keys Oak (though BA 12 falls outside of the OPs date parameters). I have and continue to believe that this market will either be remembered for its variants or for the Image #1 spec'ing that ended up iinfecting the entire hobby. If it's the former, then Batman 608RRP should be considered the start of the modern age. If it's the latter, then WD 1 should be. They are less than a year apart, but eventually one or the other will win that crown. Frankly I hope it ends up as Bats 608RRP because an entire age began by and known for spec'ing really does sound a lot like "the nineties", whereas the types of variants that this age has given us really have been something new and unique about this era of comics. Fortunately as of now, it does seem to be drifting towards the "Variant Age" as this age crystallizes and we seem to be coming to an end of it (or at least as we be know it since the likes of Bats 608RRP). -J.
  9. When you use the pejorative "toasty" to describe a book (and I notice you use it often), what exactly are you referring to? If you are referring to the appearance of edge tanning, you should know by now that that has absolutely nothing to do with the alleged "PQ" on the label, and everything to do with either the presence of light foxing (very common among old books) and/or dust shadows (which can be caused by something as benign as a book being stored for years with a smaller book being stored on top of it). -J.
  10. Meh. This is obviously going to have a decent budget. If not they would have just thrown it on Netflix, Freeform (whatever channel that is), etc. with their other low budget productions (of which only Daredevil season 1 and the first four eps of season 2 so far have been any good IMO). -J.
  11. There's a very good chance that is the scan (or that the scan is making it look more than it is in hand). Very nice copy IMO. -J.
  12. ASM 667 Dell'otto, Batman 608RRP, or Wolverine 1 (2010), Campbell (Deadpool), in any condition you can find at that price point. Honorable mention to ASM 678 (VenoMJ). -J.
  13. Erm...it just depends on how much money you're willing to spend. As it is, anything higher than even a 6.0 already puts you in the top 10% of all graded, unrestored copies, which certainly qualifies as "limited" as well. Sure, 8.0 and up is "more limited", just like 9.0 and up is "even more limited than that". Like I said, it just depends on how much you're willing to spend. -J.
  14. Whoa. Those aren't what I think they are, are they? -J.
  15. Awesome. From the sound of things it looks like they're going with a Game of Thrones angle, which is pitch perfect for these characters and their history. Really looking forward to this now. -J.
  16. Totally fake and will not be reported by GPA. -J.
  17. My all time favourite episodes ate still the Bahrain episode and the one with the guy who could see the future. And Actually it started getting consistently good with the story line with Gemma on the other planet. They do some interesting things with Ward's character after wards. The Ghost Rider story arc from the first half of this season is also worth a watch but they really kicked it up a notch with the LMD story line, and these last six episodes have been excellent IMO. Sorry for the vague descriptions but I didn't want to give too much away. -J.
  18. Or you could just go with Liefeld, who already clarified this for you pump and dumpers several weeks ago. -J.
  19. You obviously haven't been watching AOS or been seeing any of the reviews for this season (the second half in particular) .... I am definitely looking forward to this big time. The teaser poster literally looks like the comic book characters born into the flesh (although it would have been cool to see Lockjaw and way more Medusa hair (although a part of my feels they're holding the final reveal of both back until the show premieres, or at least until we get closer to the premier). At the end of the day I will be happy if this just takes the final stink of that terrible show Legion out of my nose. -J.
  20. I saw that too. Nice result. And surprisingly, there's only one other CGC 9.8 copy on eBay at the moment (asking $2450 ). -J.
  21. Fail. You can't dispute the FACT that the character, persona, and identity of "Domino" first appears in NM 98, ON the cover, and IN the story, NOT in a cameo, or an "ad", so you you instead meander off into irrelevant, typically self-righteous nonsense. Take your weak pump and dump dog and pony show somewhere else, nobody is buying here. -J.
  22. The REALLY smart ones would never discuss or disclose such things at all on a random internet chat board about comic books. -J.
  23. I agree. Let's keep it simple. When's the first time we see the character "Domino"? It's in NM 98. On the cover even. Announced in big bold lettering. Period. Cute narrative ret-cons that happen after the fact aside, that's all it boils down to. -J.
