  1. So does anyone know where that last 9.4 sold for $1750 last month ? A mycomicshop auction perhaps ? -J.
  2. not really, but ok And this is totally accurate: Not really. These modern age books are like the junk bonds of the 80's...extremely high risk. People, even after the crash, still wanted FF #1. Nobody wanted, after the crash, Unity #0 Red. And there are more FF #1s in existence than Unity #0 Reds. (And I suspect the people still looking for that book...myself included...perhaps numbered fewer than 100 nationwide.) Take it to another thread bud. -J.
  3. All a matter of preference. ...and budget. and brains . . . I don't really question how people choose to spend their funds. I assume if people are spending 3k and up on comic books, they must be successful have successful careers, have high paying jobs or just have the cash to pay for a luxury item. Comics are no different than other luxury goods. People buy a mercedes or BMW as their daily drivers. Sure you can just get a smart car , but some people don't want to drive smart cars. +1. Yet if someone were to drop $3K on an SA book no one would bat an eye Jerome Remember the Valiant books I sure do, IIRC all comic books dropped in value. So it's not like those 'safe' SA books didn't drop in value. Point is, imo, MA run the same risk of crashing like every other book no matter the age. Jerome Just as with the Batman 608RRP thread it is quite entertaining re-visiting the similar naysaying that happened in the early parts of this thread. -J. *Hey, I just hit "Total Newbie". It's fun to read that old batman RRP thread. Some posts were from 13 years ago. Lots of salty boardies back then when an RRP sold for the insane price of $325. Here we 13 years later and there are still variant collectors that still want that book This thread goes back to 2012, just months after the book came out. It has been a highly sought after , pricey modern since virtually the beginning. That would probably explain why, in just four years of release, it has been reprinted (twice), homaged (twice) and poster-ized (once). -J.

  6. It could ? I see a 9.4 selling for $1750 on GPA just this past February but I can't figure out what venue that happened on. -J.
  7. All a matter of preference. ...and budget. and brains . . . More useless trolling from the divad section of the peanut gallery. It will be interesting to see where this 9.4 ends at. Haven't seen a graded copy auctioned in a while. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Spider-Man-678-HTF-VARIANT-Cover-CGC-9-4-White-Pages-MARY-JANE-as-VENOM-/381569707232?hash=item58d753ace0:g:C90AAOSwll1Ww3HB -J.
  8. According to GPA the highest price ever paid for a 7.0 was $53k way back in 8/2012 with "ow/w" on the label. That book may have since been cracked and re-subbed. The second highest ever paid was $48.5k with "cr/ow" on the label in 10/2015. That may also have subsequently been cracked and re-submitted. -J.
  9. Yeah but Jay is biased .....Totally biased, and I clearly stated I had no idea and then just pulled a number out of my . (but I still wouldn't pay even $50k for that action 1. I don't think I would pay anything for that copy, all due respect to those who would and more, just to own any copy of an action 1.) -J.
  10. Inline with ComicLink's 8.5 EP auction result. That was a Voldemort/igb re-re-creation though. -J. No it was not. The 9.4 will be though. http://www.comiclink.com/itemdetail.asp?back=%2Fsearch%2Easp%3Fwhere%3Dsell%26title%3DCaptain%2Bamerica%2Bcomics%2B1%26GO2%3DGO%26ItemType%3DCB&id=1089151 -J. a: IGB don't produce 8.5 copies b: one easy way to spot it is by the label notes. ALL IGB productions have Extensive Color Touch and Pieces added to cover ComicLink copy only states Color Touch and Pieces added. Details you see. Good point. I'm wondering if every high grade GA or SA restored book in a CBCS slab might be getting some of the same stigma at this point by default. -J.

  13. The highest price ever paid for a restored copy was $64k for the 9.0 SP Church copy in Feb 2004. The highest graded restored copy sold was a MP 9.4 that sold for $26k in Nov 2010. I have no idea what an EP 9.4 copy would sell for now. Maybe $125k (if it wasn't an igb re-re-creation)? -J.
  14. Nice books gents. Mr. Thanos is nearly ready for his close up. -J.
  15. VenoMJ gets the La Mole treatment.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Amazing-Spider-Man-678-2-copies-SET-La-Mole-Mary-Jane-Venom-Variant-/111943322733?hash=item1a10578c6d:g:UrYAAOSwpIdW7s8E -J.
  16. +1 It seemed like almost every semi-notable back issue of his took a huge jump at once. Most of it has settled down a bit as a lot of his stuff has overwhelmed the market, but it doesn't look like you'll find much by him in the dollar bin anymore. And the books that were already known to be rare and valuable look to have gone to another level and stayed there (e.g., X-23 #1 and Winter Soldier #1). I'm sure as we see things shake out and which other cool books of his turn out to be the legitimately rare ones (like the Avengers assemble #10), the "train" will continue, but at a more measured pace. -J.
  17. Nice cover. I'm starting to think maybe he really could paint with food. -J.
  18. Beamer he is taking about Black Panther 2 (2009) JSC cover... This is the JSC THREAD not Dell'otto ~T Unless I misinterpreted what he said about Black Panther fight Dr Doom (bullet proof comics exc). Last time I check that is not JSC. I could be wrong. Yeah. Think you are mistaken. There is a black panther cover where dr doom is fighting black panther. Art is by Campbell. Oy vay you're both right. Dell'otto did one too (think his is better). -J.
  19. The price will stabilize soon. There is a decent supply it will just take a few days. Was it a 1:10? -J. It was percentile variant. 150 0r 175% of a previous Guardians book so the distribution ratio is likely a lot smaller than a 1:10. Guardians was coming off the Movie Hype and numbers were dropping, but my local store did not have the ability to get these because too many subs for the regular Guardians book to hit the percentile. Oh I see thanks for the info. I seem to recall that this book was originally speculated on due to the expectation that it was going to be "the next ASM 678" but it flamed out when the art disappointed. So I would imagine that there are a lot of copies out there either way. -J.

  21. So a character mash-up on an homage cover to an earlier character mash-up homage cover is getting "her" own story line in alternate universe outside of continuity.... A VenoMJ story line in ASM would have been way cooler. -J.
