  1. I liked it more than I thought I would as well. Still think Larson is wrong for the role, but Sam Jackson and the cat had enough charisma to make up for her lack thereof. And like with Black Panther I found the villain more interesting and better cast than the hero. Still, I put this in the upper third of Marvel movies in terms of my enjoyment factor. -J.
  2. Agreed for the most part. This is the penultimate chapter before the ending of the story that’s been built for a decade. People are going to see this if they pay attention to marvel movies at all. You cannot possibly read more into it than that. If this was a stand-alone it would have done half the box office it did. -J.
  3. Great analogy. But X men 1 already shot up last year, along with FF1. You think it has a chance of increasing by additional multiples again this year ? -J.
  4. What you have been witnessing is, in fact, the desperate and pathetic attempts by a select few to squelch, suppress, and/or shout down any and all dissenting opinion when it comes to this unremarkable movie and its miscast, unremarkable lead actress. Nothing less, nothing more. -J.
  5. And YOU'RE right... A movie that came out 8 years ago, with a much more famous character, and predated all Avengers movies is just like this de facto "prequel" which has the stink of "ret-con" all over it. Oh, and you were so busy trying to white knight this lame movie that you didn't even answer the actual question. -J.
  6. I agree with this, but is it the one that will happen this year, or be "the next" one? I don't really think so... -J.
  7. You miss my point. This movie opened EVERYWHERE at once. Did even BvS do that ? I don't think so. BvS took a huge second week drop. It's pretty much common knowledge now this movie is not must see viewing to see Endgame. Would a ~70% Man of Steel second week drop be considered expected (ie, not catastrophic) with a massive worldwide roll out like this? -J.
  8. Surely they did this because of the close proximity of release this is to Endgame. But if "everyone" in the world sees it in week one, how much of an audience is left for week 2 and beyond ? In other words, what kind of "legs" does a movie with a blow out release schedule like this normally have? -J.
  9. So..... Disney got the massive front loading they were clearly hoping and shooting for.... With the continuing mixed to "meh" audience reviews and it now being common knowledge that nothing other than the end credit scenes need to be seen for Avengers Endgame, what kind of second week percentage drops would be expected with worldwide opening numbers like these? -J.
  10. Because it is irrelevant to my point. And should I count this a reaction to my post ? -J.
  11. Guys I've been putting together an extended update for this list. But it will take quite a bit of time to put it all together and post. Please "react" to this post in some manner if you would like me to update it. At least 5 reactions, and I'll go ahead and do it. Thanks ! -J.
  12. Except "page quality" and page colour do not necessarily have any correlation to one another, e.g., you've seen people in this thread remark that books that say "white pages" on the label having yellowed covers. Yet CGC evidently assesses the "quality" of the paper by the colour. In reality, to any extent any real or meaningful or valid assessment of "page quality" that could be performed would be well beyond the qualifications of a comic book grader at CGC who's handling a comic book and saying "yeah, that feels 'white'". Beyond books that are outright brittle, or near brittle, they really just don't know what they're talking about, and they knew that when they first started up, which is why they didn't even want to include "page quality" notes on their labels originally, because they know it's basically BS. It was only because of the "old guard" dealers and collectors who basically insisted upon it that it got added. And to this day, "page quality" grading remains notoriously pointless and inconsistent. One last thing, in addition to being mostly arbitrary, the actual page quality of a book can degrade within the slab, even under optimal storage conditions, so that "white paged" book you might have paid a minor "premium" for back in 2008, may not be anymore even by CGC's loose-goosey standards. -J.
  13. For people who don't stay up until midnight to snipe auctions, it made a difference. But if you choose to believe that a "16-month low" following a 10 month high for the same book in a less than two week period had noting to do with an idiotic auction end time, be my guest. -J.
  14. Ebay sellers are who are cognizant about auction end times and know what they're doing usually have them ending between 9pm-10Pm EST (which is 6pm-7pm PST). Not midnight. That is not even debatable. (Though I'm sure you will try to anyway ) -J.
  15. Auction ended at midnight, but was still oddly low. Another sold for $5k a couple weeks earlier. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Batman-608-CGC-9-8-Jim-Lee-Retailer-Incentive-Edition-RRP-Variant-Hush-Joker/143117044346?hash=item215270ca7a:g:XzsAAOSwWotbsYFB -J.
  16. You would be surprised how many people are aware of the utter and complete randomness and arbitrariness that is involved when CGC attempts to assess "page quality", and therefore take it with the appropriate grain of salt. Also, if you really believe there is some substantive difference between "ow" and "white" in BA books, you are kidding yourself. -J.
  17. This is a straw man that you have set up.. It isn't a prerequisite to prove my point. -J.
  18. Call me crazy but I trust empirical data over word of mouth and anecdotes. -J.
  19. And I could say the exact same thing about the opposing viewpoint. So what does it mean? It means nothing. -J.
  20. Respect the input but the bolded is simply untrue. GPA reports every single major auction house (except Comiclink), and not just online ones, as well as all the private sellers on ebay. Easily enough data to glean averages and trends, much more so, I dare say, than the anecdotal accounts of individual dealers at a con. -J.
  21. ...and perpetually angry trolls who feel compelled to "white knight" every movie they like, in the absolutely most hostile and confrontational way with EVERY SINGLE POST, in the face of even mild criticism, like good little obedient fanboys with nothing else to do, are unable to grasp such mundane concepts as "nuance" and "context" when it comes to other people's posts. -J.
