MOST VALUABLE MODERN VARIANTS - THE RANKINGS
Jaydogrules replied to Jaydogrules's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Good point about the top. I didn't even notice that. But the colours are definitely off. It's the reds, they're wrong. You can see that the reds in the fake copies are more of a magenta compared to my copy. You can really see it in the "variant edition" box and the red spider in the webbing between "spider" and "island" in the title at the bottom (though the red in Spidey is wrong as well). -J. -
Is hulk 1 heating up again? Or is this just a typical post-holiday price surge ? A 5.5 at $20k+ with a day to go on Heritage: https://comics.ha.com/itm/silver-age-1956-1969-/superhero/the-incredible-hulk-1-marvel-1962-cgc-fn-55-off-white-to-white-pages/a/121801-11324.s?type=KMrm-comics-criteo-segwindeal-022216 -J.

MOST VALUABLE MODERN VARIANTS - THE RANKINGS
Jaydogrules replied to Jaydogrules's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Here is the other fake one that the boardie bought: Notice it uses the identical and incorrect shade of red as the bogus one from the bay (most notable in the "Marvel Variant Edition" box): And again, here is the real copy for referece. Notice the lighter/different shade of red): Granted, this isn't something that is readily noticeable in the absence of a real world reference copy (as opposed to a stock image). What is readily apparent though is the apparent "thickness" of the cover stock of the fake copy. That can be seen from a mile away. -J. -
MOST VALUABLE MODERN VARIANTS - THE RANKINGS
Jaydogrules replied to Jaydogrules's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
I found a picture of my copy raw before I got it slabbed. You can really see all of the differences between it and the fake copy when placed right next to each other like this, in particular at the spine and the colouring (and FYI, the real one is not being "compressed" by the bag at all, it was actually very loose in the bag and laid exactly the same way when not in the bag). -J. -
Thanks Polirer! I think I might like this version a little better too. -J.

MOST VALUABLE MODERN VARIANTS - THE RANKINGS
Jaydogrules replied to Jaydogrules's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Yes it bows in the middle due the overly plump spine (likely caused , as you say, by the wrong cover/paper stock). Signs of a hacked eBay account? Typical signs are, no activity for a year or more, no sales history, no other items for sale, random very expensive book suddenly put up for sale, etc. Happens most frequently with AF 15's and Hulk 1's. -J. -

It very much has the overly plump spine. Particularly noticeable in the first picture. Also the cover stock is wrong. I own this book, remember? I purchased it raw and handled it raw extensively (probably more than I should have ). Real copies do not have that kind of cover stock or gloss. It's fake, and it was sold from what looks like a hacked ebay account as well. -J. -

Not sure what you're saying. In September, 2016, a 1.0 copy of Tec 31 sold for $26k. In September, 2017, a different 1.0 copy sold for $44k. That is an increase of $18k in one year. Or, if I choose to parse the data your way, in a mere 18 months, it increased by about $24,000 comparing the sale for $19k in late November 2014 and the sale for $43,505 in June, 2016 that you cited above. So yeah, like I said, these Pre-Robins have just been hot. -J.

As shown by GPA data with a 9.4 being the "highest grade". If a 9.8 ever became the new highest grade that would obviously change the math. While it's fun to speculate, that is all anyone can do. My speculation is that a 9.8 cerebus 1 would be lucky to break $15k, because it is a niche title and character with virtually no demand. -J.

MOST VALUABLE MODERN VARIANTS - THE RANKINGS

This, unfortunately, definitely looks like one of those counterfeit copies... -J. -
No, 48 is not a cameo of the SS, and villain appearances (like galactus) are pretty much always second or third fiddle in importance and desirability. 48 is a monster because of the SS, the Galactus first appearance at the end of the first part of this SS/Galactus story arc (announced prominently on the cover) is gravy. As for why it is not "like" Hulk 180/181, Hulk 180 is a wendigo story with a throw away wolverine cameo at the end to tease the next issue, 181, which is the wolverine story and his first real substantive appearance. -J.

MOST VALUABLE MODERN VARIANTS - THE RANKINGS

This one has been a slow and steady grower since it was released and just cracked $1000 in a 9.8: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Superior-Spider-Man-20-J-Scott-Campbell-1-50-Variant-CGC-9-8-Black-Cat/282728202122?hash=item41d3e9ff8a:g:5h4AAOSwX3FaBPyq&redirect=mobile ...one of Campbell's last genuinely clever , nicely thought out covers. And I'm still surprised it actually made it past the censors. -J. -
Hmm yeah, I don't know. The cover to 48 is a classic, ominous cover, and perfectly embodies what's to come. And these guys think it's the best FF cover ever (49 doesn't even make the list): https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.www.complex.com/pop-culture/2011/08/the-top-15-fantastic-four-covers-of-all-time/ -J.

Wonder Comics #1 - Nosedive like this great cover?

Do you have evidence of this ? If so I can try to get all of these auctions removed from GPA. -J. -
Bravo. Couldn't have said it better myself. -J.

Here we go again. So in your opinion is it doesn't matter that the consensus estimated budget for the movie is a full 10% higher than the completely imagined budget of "$275" that you have decided to put back on your chart after less than one week. By the way , these guys put the estimated budget at $350MM. https://www.google.com/amp/indianexpress.com/article/entertainment/hollywood/is-justice-league-the-biggest-failure-for-dc-4998154/lite/ I'm not saying that is the industry accepted estimate, but again, if you can't be non-partisan when reporting this movie's industry accepted consensus numbers, don't post anything. -J.

These are just awesome! And here I thought I was a super-fan. -J.
