  1. Uh no, I didn't. They all had at least four bidders at 50% of final hammer and higher. Look again. And those are some of the most recent auctions of the most valuable variants that were not buy it nows, best offers , or one bid "auctions". In other words, the norm. -J.
  2. (Wow, talk about a straw man, false equivalencies , etc., you may have even topped yourself with that one ).....except....not.... http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=202104008003&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565 http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=122849345939&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565 http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=182864402662&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565 http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=112569645091&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565 (^^Five bidders after the high $3K opening bid) http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=132336643247&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565 http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=132336643247&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565 (^^ Four bidders after the high $1000 start bid) Oh, and just for shigs and gittles, a blast from the past from the one that got it all rolling: http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=262029141076&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565 (Glad we agree these are all examples of when there is a legitimate and extremely high demand for a particular book, unlike with Cerebus 1.) -J.
  3. Maybe you should have read the thread because you just made the same straw man arguments that others did before you. Cerebus 1 highest grade sold for $9k. Hulk 181 highest sold for $150k. No comparison. The ONLY grade Cerebus sells for more than 181 is 9.4 (cerebus' highest grade). Every grade below that , 181 sells for more. A lot more. Every single day. Unfortunately for Cerebus , overstreet uses the grade 9.2 for its comparisons. 181 wins there. By a lot. And while this little rehash is all well and good this entire thread was rendered moot when overstreet ranked hulk 181 higher than Cerebus 1 two or three years ago. As the late Bill Paxton once said - Game Over , Man. And I highly doubt 9.8 Cerebus 1 would crack anywhere near $20k. Unless two super Cerebus fans got into a pizzing contest in an auction. And even then, nope. Like I said before , the book is niche and the demand for it is beyond weak. -J.
  4. No, this movie and its $300MM budget and flimsy 2.083 multiplier doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell at $700MM. -J.
  5. Kind of reminds me of the ASM 667 variant. Will have to get it just because of that alone. -J.
  6. Actually Tec 31 has more graded copies than 33. And I've seen plenty of 31's for sale the last four years, usually at least one in nearly every major HA or CC auction and its price continues to escalate as well. There have not been nearly as many 33's for sale over the same period of time publicly, and it has the added benefit of the origin story. These things look to be cyclical and Tec 31 was only going to go so high before it just looked stupid compared to what 33 was going for. So the inevitable happened , 33 surged and went a long way toward closing the gap the last couple years. And the 1.0, 31 that sold for $26k last year had "white pages " on the label. The difference in year over year prices between a 31, 1.0 and a 33, 1.5 is about on par with each other. -J.
  7. I know what you mean, but what're you gonna do ? Same thing happened with Tec 31. Last year a 1.0 sold for $26k, this year one sold for $44k- an $18k increase. Pre-Robin Tec's were hot this year. This just shows again that always waiting around for the next "prettier" copy can cost you a lot more money in more ways than one. -J.
  8. Very cool. I guarantee you that after you posted this at least a handful of people set about to see if they could find one! -J.
  9. Then why are you still posting $275MM in your chart? Other than to be petulant and defiant at this point I don't see any reason. Either post the industry consensus figure of $300MM or don't post anything if you can't refrain from putting your thumb on the scale. -J.
  10. What's really funny is this guy (Mendelson) actually just posited on Aquaman earning $700MM worldwide as if that was even a remote possibility. -J.
  11. Beautiful copy ! Looks like you bought just in time too! -J.
  12. SC22 is right. According to GPA it sold for full boat, $30k. -J.
  13. It's weird it just closed so that may not be accurate just yet. We can check back again in a couple hours. Watchcount at the very least should be updated by then. And if not, GPA for sure after midnight Aussie time. -J.
  14. Normally I would say here: http://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item=312023563193&item_hash4=b9fb0470&LH_Complete=1&LH_BIN=1&_pgn=1&rc=nt&_trksid=p3750801.m370.h1613&rmvSB=true&ul_ref=http%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F1%2F711-53200-19255-0%2F1%3Fff3%3D4%26campid%3D5335849815%26toolid%3D10034%26customid%3DeBay-US_go-url_-b8cf1f9cd252---ilu.ihist.312023563193.-_wcc%26mpre%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Foffer.ebay.co.uk%252Fws%252FeBayISAPI.dll%253FViewBidsLogin%2526item%253D312023563193%2526item_hash4%253Db9fb0470%2526LH_Complete%253D1%2526LH_BIN%253D1%2526_pgn%253D1%2526rc%253Dnt%2526_trksid%253Dp3750801.m370.h1613%26srcrot%3D711-53200-19255-0%26rvr_id%3D1392281403367 But it's not showing yet even there. It will be on GPA in the morning though then we will know for sure and I will post it for you. -J.
  15. Oh yes. There's a few cool and pricey post-1962 books out there. -J.
  16. People have been trying to fake valuable comic books since 51st least Cerebus 1 and the Star Wars 1 price variant, that's nothing new, and they remain very easy to spot, at least once in hand. As always the biggest red flag is the asking price. If someone is offering you an extremely high grade looking pair of exceedingly rare books raw for $3k that are worth $15k-$20k in 9.8 slabs that's your first big hint it's a scam. But at least you came out of it financially unscathed this time. -J.
  17. False (and irrelevant). My basis for values is ALWAYS published/public sales data. Check yourself. -J.
  18. +1 What's particularly obscene about what he's doing here (and remembering how he goes on and on about needing to report the alleged "real budget" of GOTG 1) is that in looking back at the Homecoming thread he gleefully and repeatedly made the demonstrably FALSE claim that the "marketing budget" of that film was "$140MM" in a patently feeble attempt to mitigate that film's over performance in relation to Wonder Woman. It got to the point where I seriously thought he was about to add that number to the production budget just so it could look like the film under performed instead of being the biggest hero movie of the year. Now here, again in spite of all evidence , is knowingly and repeatedly UNDER reporting the consensus production budget of JL. "But I don't know the real budget !" he exclaims. But continues to use "$275MM" because Mendelson said it once. But let's just ignore what Mendelson, along with what every other media outlet says now. And of course we won't even touch what ever JL's "marketing budget" was. Truth and consistency in analytics, or don't bother with any charts at all. -J.
  19. I take it that 678 is counterfeit too? Those are clearly not manufacturing staples. But that's not exactly something people ask for pictures of when assessing the condition of a modern. I've seen counterfeit versions of both of these books on ebay this year, but these look pretty good if you're just looking at pictures. The printing quality is very convincing. If counterfeiting rare, very high dollar modern variants is a thing now, I would imagine asking for pictures of the spine and staples would be a must. Since you didn't lose any money in this transaction, do you mind sharing what the "seller" asked for these two books? -J.
  20. I've been trying to figure that out for sure, but I'm leaning toward it being another 7.0. -J.
  21. Here is Forbes' Mandelson in what looks like his post-mortem on the box office performance of this movie. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2017/12/12/justice-league-is-the-biggest-grossing-box-office-bomb-ever/amp/ Notice he is now regularly using the correct budget of this movie of $300MM , in performing his analytics and discussion of multipliers. -J.
  22. I'm surprised no one has said anything about that big come-down in price on the All Star Comics 3, 7.0. From $69k last December , to $40k this auction. -J.
  23. Whoa. How did I miss this thread ? Yeah that book looks totally "off". Cover stock looks wrong. The sheen/gloss on the book looks wrong. It looks far too plump at the spine. If you have other, more pics of what definitely gave it away as a fake it would be interesting to see them. Sorry you got hoodwinked but at least you were smart enough to have your bases covered. -J.
  24. Normally I would agree with this, but all of the relevant first appearances of the symbiotes that will like feature in this movie are in 4 and 5. And if someone is going to have 1, 4 and 5, might as well have 2, 3, and 6 to have the whole storyline. -J.
