  1. Star Wars is the number one toy line for boys?? Currently?? Is there a link to that? Because I have 4 kids and we go to Toys R Us, Target, like twice a week and the space in the aisle for Star Wars toys has shrunk down to above barely nothing. Meanwhile Marvel and even DC toys continue to grow based on the characters.

I'm sure when the new Star Wars movies come out that will change.

Top properties for the year based on total dollar sales (in alphabetical order) included Barbie, Disney Princess, Monster High, Nerf, and Star Wars.

  2. Superman Adventures 20 on Ebay being gobbled up quick, Volcana is the new Livewire!

    No Zack. No.

You mentioned this earlier and I bought all the copies on ebay and I bought a copy today at a store.

Have you read Superman Adventures #20? I have. Volcana is not in it. SO NO ZACK. NO.

    (shrug)

Trust me she totally appears in this issue, it's her first appearance

I read the issue and have it in front of me.

    Shes not there.

    What page?

  3. Honest question, are first appearances of characters that appear in solo movies more highly sought after than first appearances of characters that appear in non-solo movies?

I guess if we are thinking along these lines:

    4) Boba Fett has already appeared in 2 movies (technically 3, but...) and Apocalypse has yet to appear in a movie.

Probably depends how well the movie does these days. That has the ability to really move the needle now.

  4. I hope you are right. :) But here is why I think the comparison is apples to oranges:

    1) X-Factor 6 has the first appearance of a comic character - Star Wars 42 has the first appearance of a movie character in a comic

    2) X-Factor 6 is a superhero comic - Star Wars 42 is not

    3) X-Factor 6 is part of a family of comics (X-Men) that have a book or two consistently near the top of the 300 comics - Star Wars is part of a family of comics (Star Wars) that typically sell in the middle of the top 300 comics

Star Wars 42 has the potential (pretty much assured) to have a solo movie featuring the character, X-Factor does not.

  5. The inside leaks about one of the standalone movies being Boba Fett has already led to a run-up in the price for Star War 42. If people are waiting for an official announcement, they will have already missed the party. I'm not sure how much further this issue has to climb.

It might already be too late:

I found a NM for under $10 a few months back. Still plenty out there.

  6. Come on Silver Surfer 50 has a bigass Chromium cover, it was hyped like mad at the time, and represents a lot of what was bad about the rampant speculation of the era.

Silver Surfer 34 is far more appealing, as it came out a year and a half earlier, at the start of 1990, doesn't sport a Chromium cover, and is the start of the CA Thanos saga.

Oh no, I agree with Joe C!

It was the embossed / foil / holo phase. I have a Deathlok and Dr. Strange from that era as well that would serve better as fuel for a fire.

  7.

So what are you going to do with that 191 smackers!?

Wish that was mine. This book hasn't been at what I would consider a reasonable price for a while.

Whatever you do don't reinvest it in a hoard of Swamp Thing 25s.

They can still be found for $5, so I don't see why you wouldn't.

buy copies of Star Wars 42

    Why?

So don't buy Swamp #25 or Star #42? OK, more copies for me.

  8. Superman Adventures 20 first appearance of Volcana - another sleeper coming to 52. Costume has Cosplay written all over it.

Didn't Volcana first appear in Secret Wars?

Marvel and DC both have a Volcana.

Superman Adventures 20 first appearance of Volcana - another sleeper coming to 52. Costume has Cosplay written all over it.

Please tell me what page she appears on.

All Turtles are heating up . . . linky-dink

    Looks like one book. (shrug)

  9. I don't understand why people are so mad over this book taking off? If things like this make you upset, maybe it's time to leave the hobby?

No anger here. In fact, no emotion at all. Just discussing underlying causes for the rise of the book.

Do you ever watch CNBC? When someone argues a bear case for a stock, or is skeptical about a sudden parabolic rise in that stock's price, do you think that analyst is mad about the price rise, or is upset he/she missed the boat on that stock? (shrug)

It is possible to discuss these things without ulterior motive or emotion.

That they missed the boat. They obviously didn't recognize it in the first place so how much "stock" do you put in their opinion anyway?

  10. So I went back through Scalped. I read it two years ago. No one can possibly still believe this is Earl Tubb.

    Scalped16p05_zpsf0f16745.jpg

#16 page 5. Actually appears on page 4, but page 5 he says his name.

    scaled_54_010_zps04ed9207.jpg

#54 page 9. He gets shot in the head. Dead body is shown face down on page 10.

Don't ruin it, Im really enjoying watching all the suckers buy Scalped 43 at hilarious prices lol

Anyone that's read Scalped knows how funny all of this is. Let the fools throw their money away.

Funny or annoying? I've watched Star Wars 68, which doesn't feature Boba Fett but another character entirely, get priced higher and higher as a Boba Fett cover and story. I think Boba Fett is in one or two panels in the book (in a flashback) and he isn't the character on the cover. (Hint: if you watched the Clone Wars TV series, you would understand there is an entire planet of people who wear armor that looks like Boba Fett's armor.)

Another is the first appearance of Rocket Raccoon. Half the collectors out there think it is Incredible Hulk 271.

Once these books go up, they hardly ever come down.

Why would it be annoying? Consider yourself smarter, move on. If you are letting yourself get caught up in it you are no better.

FYI, Latour NEVER said it was Tubbs:

The issue of SCALPED you can blame for SOUTHERN BASTARDS.-JL

:o It the buyer did not mistake what he was buying.....that's crazy! Glad I have #1-110, I would hate spending big money on reprints.

You need not worry. You own everything. :sumo::baiting:

This book guides for about 4 bucks in the current Overstreet. I could see it going for double to triple Guide in VF because of movie mayhem...but over 20 times Guide?

What movie mayhem? Also, "guide" is outdated the minute it's published. I love shops that go by Overstreet.

Even negative publicity is publicity, re: the movie exposure.

I used the guide as a guide, as a baseline. I didn't make grand claims for it...but at the same time, I think it can't be so easily thrown under the bus, as many in the Internet age would have it.

As for the love you have for shops going by Overstreet, is it a selective love? What about when it's, say, full Guide for 3rd tier title, mid-grade Bronze? You love that, right? :slapfight:

Yes, the do say there is no bad publicity, but a bad movie doesn't not draw people to buy those comics.

If I know a shop uses Overstreet, I know there are plenty of books to hunt that have increased recently in value.

  12. Isn't that the point? Why should anyone know about her? She's done nothing! I only know anything about her because of when she made her DCU debut, which happened to be when I was really into (then) current DC.

Who cares about any of the characters as long as it makes you some money? (shrug)

Really? This message board is going down the toilet if this is the new mantra of members.

    Things to do...

Try and stay out of comics general, AND the copper area.

I think you are in the wrong thread.

  13. Let's kill this stupid 1st appearance/prototype talk - Scalped 16 is the first appearance of Wooster Karnow, drawn by R.M. Guera. He looks exactly the same in that issue as he does in 43.

How is 43 the first appearance of a 'prototype' character, when he appears 27 issues earlier? Latour isn't even co-creator of the character - that'd be Guera.

43 is significant to Latour and Aaron because it's the first time they worked together. That page is probably called out because it's the first time Latour showed his amazing ability to draw old white dudes.

Stop BS'ing to protect your $1 box investments - this book is nothing. Read Scalped instead of people's biased opinions.

Because that was the first time Latour drew him. What if you interpreted "prototype" as "inspiration", does that help?

    Just. Stop.

Sorry, forgot this was the internet. No room for logic.
