  1. I had a Swamp Thing 67 VF/NM in a 7 day auction end at $7.55 (only 18 page views). Not bad for a dollar bin find, and certainly paid for the NM+ copy that I bought the same day.

Can someone explain to me why the Livewire hype has completely skipped Supes Adv #22?

    $7.55 is a good sell for a VF/NM copy.

Fixed the next part for you too. :foryou:

  2. Let's kill this stupid 1st appearance/prototype talk - Scalped 16 is the first appearance of Wooster Karnow, drawn by R.M. Guera. He looks exactly the same in that issue as he does in 43.

How is 43 the first appearance of a 'prototype' character, when he appears 27 issues earlier? Latour isn't even co-creator of the character - that'd be Guera.

43 is significant to Latour and Aaron because it's the first time they worked together. That page is probably called out because it's the first time Latour showed his amazing ability to draw old white dudes.

Stop BS'ing to protect your $1 box investments - this book is nothing. Read Scalped instead of people's biased opinions.

Because that was the first time Latour drew him. What if you interpreted "prototype" as "inspiration", does that help?

  3.

If Southern Bastards stays hot, really takes off or becomes a TV show, people will still want Scalped 43 since it's Aaron & LaTour's first book together.

Debate all day whether it's a SB prototype or not, I believe it is

Yes, I agree. That was the issue where they created the middle-aged redneck.

That character also died, btw...and he appears much younger in Scalped, so...figure that one out.

It is crazy how a blurb kicked into a full scale ebay phenomenon. Funny but absolutely crazy. lol

We used to do this as an exercise when I was in grade school. The teacher would write down a fact on a piece of paper and show it to the first student. The 1st student would tell a 2nd student. This would continue until it got to the last kid. The last kid would stand in front of the class and let everybody know what the teacher wrote down. It was usually about 4 miles off. The teacher would then read the page out loud. The teacher was trying to explain the importance of getting your facts straight. lol

It's called "telephone" wow, outdated yet relevant

  4. There's a lot of listings there. 17 pages or something in the last 30 months. Average value might be low but I'm sure it adds up. I would have guessed 5k not 10, but whatever. He sells a fair bit. a LOT of work though

if he's making anywhere between $5-10K monthly, that's a normal full time job for most people. Of course you gotta take out taxes and purchase cost and ebay fees, but that's a sound living for many people in the US. If you can do that and you like/love it, more power to you!

Agreed, a hobby that pays is not a job if you can pay for your hobby with profits. Hard to do selling $5 at a time, but volume can alleviate that.

  5. V Wars is awesome! It's not just a typical vampire storyline. The writer has alluded to many different directions this will explore. He is also absolutely sure this will be a TV show. His other novel which will be adapted into comic book format is already in talks of becoming a movie. Google Jonathan Maberry - great guy, great writer.

which is why I can't figure out why the FCBD issue isn't selling for me....I mean it IS the first appearance right?

    hm

FCBD was at the beginning of May... #2 is already out. I think #1 might have come first. I could be wrong on this though.

Correct #1 was released April 30th.

  6.

What is the Key Batman Beyond?

What do you mean, from a series of a book with Batman Beyond? It's really the same issue.

  7.

I believe $66 is a new high. IIRC, sets were around $36-40 a month or so ago. I enjoy reading this series, but I'm still shocked how many printings there have been of the first 4 issues.

'2nd print of the 4th print' still cracks me up lol

    One of a kind lol

I thought Punisher Kills the Marvel Universe had a 2nd print of the 2nd print, but I can't find any info. online.

  8.

If people only knew how to use the internet, they would really save themselves some money.

Original Batman Beyond is starting to really catch some heat now:

  9. I feel that X-Men 248 first Jim Lee needs to be added to this list, he is DC's main man now and let's face it this issue is where it all started. One of the best artists if not the best in the last 25 years and this issue should be in everyone's collection.

That's Jim Lee's first X-Men work, not his first work. It'd have more potential if Marvel hadn't systematically eroded the X-Men comic franchise over the last 20 years with a combination of poor stories and overexposure.

I thought he did a backup story in Xmen classics?

    hm

Racking my brain. Coming up with nothing. May have to do some research.

    Classic X-Men #39

    And his first comic work:

A guy at last year's Boston Con had a short box full of these. They are not easy to find, I should have bought them all.

My LCS has one of these for fairly cheap. I may have to pick it up. There are a decent number on eBay asking $30-40, but there haven't been any recently that have sold for those prices.

  10. which still isn't so great, i agree.

chip, i think the $6.50 shipping scares off purchasers on some books. obviously some hotter stuff, more expensive stuff, it matters less. i understand your legitimate rationale for it and that you aren't making money from it.

problem is, i don't think ebay has a good way to offer free shipping on auctions and let you build it into the price because people who win multiple auctions are skrewed and you are skrewed on the fees if you knock $2-$5 off every additional purchase, etc. i don't think ebay lets you build this into your shipping cost, does it?

There are different options on multiple item shipping if you have a store setup. A store costs a monthly fee.

  11. I'm all for 21 and 22 to start getting some recognition but Blood has already been featured heavily on Arrow and his first appearances haven't done much of anything so far. Might have something to do with the character on the show only vaguely resembling either of the Bloods in the comics.

The whole second season of Arrow was about Brother Blood then the tie into Deathstroke.

  12. Felicity Smoak's first appearance is still a dollar book too, despite being the most adored character on the show.

Which I guess goes to show you that TV Hype is all built on Sand.

Books that may never see a TV Screen sell for more than books featuring popular characters, on proven, successful shows.

And Waller has been on multiple shows, nothing. Brother Blood saw a mini spike, same as Ravager II

  13. I think the problem here is you are the only one in this argument perceiving this to be Rocket's origin. The other poster feels it *is* Rocket's origin. Probably time to move on as the other poster said...

I thought it was his origin until someone else brought it up. Then I reread it. Time to move on? Am I going to ruin your "investment" if the truth gets out?

No people are just tired of reading about it move on like the other poster said.

    :sumo::tonofbricks: okie dokie

  14. I was reading a thread started by ygogolak on another message board in which he posts pictures of his back issue hauls. While he does not have as many views per video as a MERCENAUT, his Yanni Gogolak YouTube channel does have over 150 subscribers. Anyways, amongst his huge scores, he was also buying the following books in multiple:

New Teen Titans #21 (1st Brother Blood) [previously mentioned in thread]

    Marvel Age #6

Power Pack #1 (1st Power Pack appearance)

New Mutants #25 (1st page of Legion)

X-Force #2 (2nd Deadpool appearance) [previously mentioned in thread]

    yes, and...?

I was suggesting these books could be potentially undervalued long/mid-term. See thread title :)

Thank you, yes they could. That is what I typically try and feature in my hauls.
