  1. Only six 9.0s outa that group, not bad at all! How close were those grades to what you expected?
  2. spookyaktion, where ya been? Great book but I've always had a problem with the little kid in Manny's arms. It really looks like an afterthought to me! I could almost believe that it wasn't even drawn by Morrow but added in by someone else. I could be wrong on this but it would be nice to see the original art to see if the kid was pasted on.
  3. Way to go! I love this book for many reasons! Most covers are cut and dry, meaning you can tell what's going to happen, eg. man about to kiss skeletal bride or kids just about to be seen/caught viewing a murder/secret happening. This cover you don't really know the story here, the boy doesn't look frightened so much as surprised to me. Why is he in a wheelchair? Is that creature there to hurt or help? Then there's the colors! That deep blue against that lime yellow/green! And of course the Kaluta art. Wow! Great all around, nice choice.
  4. Ghosts # 65 was the LAST issue in the run for me too! Also weird that I purchased it from Chuck. Kept checking, always sold out then poof it was listed and I nabbed it! I do need an upgrade on my # 63 though. WWTs # 24 & 25 are definitly 2 of my top 10 covers in that run!
  5. Great story! I love hearing stories like that. The last page is so very subtly chilling I now have to get a copy! The look on that woman's face is priceless.
  6. So great to see these books! Curious about the "Approved Reading" logo. Is this a precursor to the CCA stamp or something entirely different? Any info would be appreciated, thanks!
  7. OK - just noticed - $276? Is that right? Yep! The discussion was in one of your own threads. What Comprises DC and Charlton BA Horror?
  8. Check out this ultra cool art! Norinn Radd originally posted the Heritage link to, sold for 276 I believe good price!
  9. Oops! My fault there, went back and reread the thread (heh, that rhymed)!
  10. Don't know too much about the pre-code Charlton's but sad to hear most were bland, would not have expected that!
  11. Pov, 95% of my collection is Horror/Monster/SciFi. I dunno, I've always been drawn to it moreso than the superhero genre. As a kid, Charlton's were always on the rack along with Marvel and DC at my local 5&10 store so they were consumed along with the rest. Charlton's died out in the early/mid 90's and I remember a link awhile back about them having ties to the Mob! Anyone have clearer info on this as my memory is fuzzy.
  12. One of my top (?) list of favorite Charlton covers, the expression on that face is very chilling! The (?) is there 'cause I know I haven't seen all these gems yet and don't know how big my top list would be.
  13. Beautiful cover! Love the way the candles flow around the scene, very surreal! The Hunt is on!
  14. Really great post! I logged on late last night and saw it there but passed up reading it due to the length. Have read it this AM and was very intriguing. Can't believe a Howard Stern mention got slipped in there! This is what I really love about comics; stories to read, excellent artwork and learning the little bits of history associated with them. Thanks! BWT: Sterling, the first time I ever saw this thread I had no doubt it would become "infinite"!
  15. BassGMan, Although I've alwaysed liked DC, I was most definitely weened on Marvel BA horror, and Man-Wolf was one of my favorites along with Morbius! I was SO thrilled to see Man-Wolf (sort of) hinted at in Spiderman II that I was a total surprise to my niece and nephew (who I took to the movie) about the information of the origin of the various characters that they had no clue about. They started asking me questions about EVERYTHING and all I would say is that they would have to wait and see what the next movie would bring!
  16. Charlton's Rock! If you are a fan of Steve Ditko, Charlton is chock full of his stuff. BTW: I've been looking for a HG Scary Tales # 46 for a while now, if your source happens to have one...I will gladly pay you Tuesday...
  17. Very pre-code, espesially those space suits! It is also interesting how often Charlton "swiped" their own covers. For instance ST 20 cover is from Charlton's Haunted # 18 I believe. Scary Tales even swiped from there own issues, The Bobo the Bear cover was used in two of there issues along with a swipe from Creepy Things # 5.
  18. That's wild...I was just indexing my Scary Tales and adding in some upgrades just about 20 minutes ago and were holding those exact issues! Great books! It seems to me the Charlton's are always harder to find in HG than their DC and Marvel counterparts. Plus there are a TON out there with very bad QP.
  19. Fugly as in spine damage or just overall condition? Your # 162 looks nice and tight, too bad I can't see the side of the spine! Can the side of the spine be seen through the case at all?
  20. Real nice Unexpecteds there, yeah, those 100 pagers are tough! I always find them with nice covers but have those "chuncks" of cover ripped or missing at the top and bottom of the spine. Out of curiosity, does CGC grade a 100 pager the same as it would a regular sized issue of the same title? PS: Cool avatar! From on of my fave Marvel BH covers!
  21. Too late Pov! Too late...you got the BA Horror fever. I'm afraid there's nothing you can do.
