  1. interesting-- for some reason, I never really got into Spider-man other than buying the books off the rack (accumulation vs. collecting) and these books fall directly into the range of when I was first in the hobby as a young whipper snapper. The first ASM I bought was 147 and I enjoyed those early ones but can't remember even reading the later ones (last rack bought one was #178). Still have them but to hear others say they are terrible is connecting some dots that maybe I read some of them and just put them out of my mind. Looking at the grades I have given to those books -- most of them are in high grade from 161 - 178. So I either wasn't reading/pawing over them often OR - might have been partially due to becoming better at taking care of my books (using bags, general handling, copy selection at purchase etc). One doesn't really stick out as being terrible to me. I just always knew that the early stuff was by far the best (first fifty or so issues)- and I have several well read collections of that work. By the way- how old would Aunt May be these days?
  2. cool how they interwove their initials on the Avengers 97 cover
  3. Not really. He is buying 100's of thousands of comics for 5- to 10 cents on the dollar.....and according to his newsletter he has to postpone his "east coast" buying trip for a couple of weeks...to get even MORE We are all so very impressed by this................ NOOOOOOOT
  4. yeah-- because we've all had a girlfriend get back at us by buying comics on ebay. total BS
  5. stumbled across this one which was listed among comics for some reason but is quite comical..... http://www.ebay.com/itm/playboys-magazines-/142179834575?hash=item211a941acf:g:TyYAAOSw4GVYKo3i
  6. The multiple time line theory (MTLT) is interesting and I will keep that in mind going forward as I haven't totally ruled it out. I can see this story line having many layers which would almost require the MTLT --- but it would be so awesome if they threw in a few more flashes to the first version. That Yul shadowy figure was chilling!
  7. you are just showing pictures of these, not clipping them out (I hope), right?
  8. Which Bay is Galactus at? Green Bay, San Fransico Bay? Please inquiring minds would like to know. Tampa Bay!
  9. neat-- does that collect the first 6 issues?
  10. I hope you gave him a good kick in the arse in the comments section.
  11. I need that number 16. I'll give you the #16 and my wife for that AF15! might needs to see some scans of the wife.....
  12. eBay is too lenient on buyers like this. And it's getting worse. It seems 10% of the buyers I interact with have the moral flexibility to commit fraud... I would not rule out lack of intelligence (along with morals)
  13. that seems like a legitimate situation to be concerned about. Sort of why I collect what I enjoy and like to have versus what is a "good investment". If I deem a book as too expensive, it remains a hole in whatever run I am working on. In years to come-- as I approach my own mortality -- finding the books a new home might be a challenge.
  14. Mitch (or the person who hacked his account- whichever)- When you are the only one arguing your point, that should be a good indicator that your stance is incorrect. Love the way you completely ignore my sound points about all the books he owns already are for sale (with few buying them) - which is essentially the same as being "in the market". Maybe not at reasonable prices and definitely not at huge discounts but still available. You seem all too concerned with the quantity of books as if they are all equally important. Probably should not have made that last point since you will only focus on whatever small blurb you can to argue your case.
  15. just as an aside-- if the entire Mile High inventory was destroyed, does anyone think it make any difference to the collecting community? As far as this idea of dumping the books on the market being a big problem-- my understanding is ALL of them are already for sale. So is Mmedy trying to tell us he is going to sell all these books for next to nothing? GO for it-=- all that will happen is people will get some decent deals on the books they want and the rest of them will remain in the warehouse collecting dust. None of this argument makes any sense in terms of this being some huge problem we need to worry about. The vast majority of comics produced over the years are still found in peoples collections. They have changed hands over the years and some have been lost to attrition (fire, flood, recycled, moms, etc) -- collectors die all the time after all. Granted they may not have millions of books but any collectible has a finite amount of supply. To assume that Chuck somehow has all these 9.6 copies he is holding off from selling on his website and store is as insane as most of his prices. So even in the event of Chuck's demise-- there will be some sort of change of hands-- perhaps by another company/individual willing to buy out his stock. To believe that this is some SUDDEN change of supply in high grade books takes the belief that he is NOT trying to sell or making those books available already. That is where your argument makes the least amount of sense to me.
  16. You been huffing spray paint again? It is sometimes hard to accept reality..Chuck's goal to change the comic book pricing was explained in the video with the comic book couple who traveled to his store...price it as high and you can still nobody buys it then come down....again it has nothing to do with overstreet or auctions or anything. He is not acting as fool which he has been made out here..this guy has plan and it right in front of your faces...eliminate competition, control supply, and then place ads saying the world's largest store... There is a lot on this board, but this is buying 100,000- 120,000 comic books for $1500 he must be doing something right Yeah-- because he would never lie about anything he is doing or boast/make claims that aren't 100% factual. Oh wait-- it was on the internet so it must be a fact now. Come on-- half of what he says sounds like total BS. His pricing practice- however he wants to explain it - basically prices his book at the very top of the market without regard to demand. Pretty much anyone can find a NM 98 in that grade for far less than his sticker or even his old price. The only market he is cornering-- something that would take 12 times the warehouse space he has at the least (and I am probably underestimating)-- is the over priced and over graded market. He acts like he has everything "figured out"-- and that is perfectly fine in terms of how he wants to run his business. I would argue he has a demented view of the market place in general. Tons of stuff? sure. Will it all sell? No chance. Personally-- I think you are just trolling this thread at this point.
  17. The worlds largest junk yard probably has over a million cars--- but would anyone want them? Maybe some parts here and there. But to cmpare it to a thriving dealership would be ludicrous. My point here is that Mmehdy seems to think quantity is what matters when all of us are far more concerned with quality. What do serious collectors talk about on these boards? Keys, condition, print runs scarcity. Sure-- if you were only concerned with amassing a huge pile of paper-- Chuck is clearly the front runner. I suppose if someone wanted to do the same, they could go out and buy everyone boxes of drek. I am not saying all of what Mile High has is garbage-- clearly they have wall books. But to act as ALL of that inventory is comprised of highly desirable copies of significant comics is lunacy. Some of the examples given involved adding 100 copies of this or that key book. Then making some huge leap that Chuck has tons of key books and could flood the market with them if he chose to do so. I seriously doubt that is the case. He might have enough to for a short time impact pricing for some books but not the entire hobby. Even if he did-- what would he have left? A warehouse full of drek and variants? I suppose he could corner that market-- although few would really care. We can be in a little bit of awe over the size of his holdings. I just cannot see how anyone could ever "corner the market" in comics and will never understand why one would try in the first place. Chuck likes to run his store the way he does-- good for him and I'm estatic that he is happy. But as much as he talks about staying up on the business and what is hot currently-- that part seems deluded.
  18. I don't think many here have bad feelings about Chuck-- just that his prices are unreasonable compared to market. The deals they found in that trip to his store where nothing I collect. All the prices for things I do collect were way more than I can find them for through other means. I guess if you are into variants, he has a nice selection. Still-- the next time I am in Denver and have some time, I might check out the store simply to see what it is like. I kind of get the idea from various videos but it might be neat to experience it in person. But I would not make the trip there just to check out the store as the sole reason. by the way-- what online store were they using to compare his prices? (the part where the Iron Man was priced at like $80 and the onine had it at $3.20)
  19. will it matter? the way he prices books so high to begin with, who will be buying those books or let them influence their decisions? also-- I have doubts over how many 9.8 SA books he could have even if there were 12K of one issue. And with his sterling reputation of over grading everything, he would have to submit those books to CGC for anyone to take that grade at face value regardless.
  20. Excellent question Negan, no. joeypost, maybe. Bob Porter: We're gonna be getting rid of these people here... First, Mr. Samir Naga... Naga... Naga... Not gonna work here anymore, anyway.
