We feel it is important to provide transparency on how CGC arrived at our method of certifying Clayton Crain’s Ultimate Fallout comics with the attached acetate covers. For us, this was an unprecedented item to grade. After Mr. Crain spoke with us prior to C2E2, the rules we applied to his books:

    • The additional cover had to be created by an established artist in the industry.
    • The comic to which the cover was attached had to contain a cover by that same artist.
    • A copy of the comic with the attached cover had to be submitted to us for inspection prior to certifying any copies.

Given the recent circumstances, we have made adjustments to the labeling originally used for the Ultimate Fallout exhibiting the acetate cover. Going forward, any copies submitted to CGC will display in the label text: "In God We Intrust" Acetate Artist Cover attached with 2 staples after manufacturing. The books will still be allowed to receive a Universal label.

This will also apply to Mr. Crain’s forthcoming copies of Ghost Rider #1 and Deadpool Nerdy 30 #1 that contain an acetate cover.

@CGC MikeHas there been any discussion between Marvel and CGC? Marvel has no concerns with this, they still see the additions as a Marvel product?

People keep asking things like this,  but this isn't CGC changing their guidelines from now on. It's a one-off arrangement made with a specific retailer.

For instance..  If someone cracks one of the original Bad Idea invisible books and submits it for grading, guess what CGC would do with it..

    Admit that they lost it?

The inaccurate American flags were added AFTER Marvel approved the artwork for the variant, which was basically Clayton Crane imitating the original UF4 cover.

    The average consumer realizes that?

Even CGC doesn't recognize that there were two stages of manufacturing.

I just want to reiterate how ridiculous (and somewhat insulting) it is that the American flag is drawn incorrectly (white stripes on edges instead of red) on the back and that the folded flag on the acetate is drawn incorrectly, with the stripes peeking out from the folds.  I really didn't expect such amateurish work from Clayton Crain if he's really the one responsible for that.  Everything about this book is a clown show.  I can't wait to see what today brings.

Comic says Marvel on it, this is Marvel's incompetence as well.

Perhaps the next response we see is the complete removal of this message board.

I know, tacky to quote yourself, but I predict before the end of this weekend, every thread on the front page of general will be about c2e2 etc.

Or they simply don’t care.  If the submissions keep rolling in (or increasing), the guys at the top can dismiss us as a bunch of whiny malcontents.

Right, we are just unemployed gen x'ers living in our parent's basement. They can ignore us.

  7. Skeff left a comment on gem mints video (which is now gone) saying that he only got 10 copies for himself which he sold that same night. To get this privilege he did favours for Black Flag (his words not mine).

He didn’t elaborate on what those favours were, but my reasonable but unconfirmed guess is that he took a short box full and sprinkled it across other friends and dealers at the show. I can’t think of any other favours that could have been provided to earn Black Flags appreciation.

The booth sold the 10.0 for $2500.  I wonder who has it?

That’s a great investment… you could buy the actual first appearance for that much in 9.8.

Maybe this is a money laundering scheme.

  9. Who were the influencers that were part of this? I have seen some of them outed in various YouTube videos, is there a full list in this thread?

Not that I’m putting more blame on them than CGC… flippers going to flip… but CGC?!?!? Maybe they are just an encapsulating service.

    Definitely.

There are some weirdos, though. I can remember a few years back when I was dumping a bunch of 90s good girl covers for $2 apiece at a Red & White show and had two middle aged gentlemen breathing heavily while they were excitedly flipping through the covers. At least they took them all so I had two fewer long boxes to lug out.

Is that how you met Greggy?
