Great guest line up, but who on earth is "Carmen Infantino"?

Blame the typo on the Disney Nostalgia Con co-organizers Jerry O'Hara and David T. Alexander. Robt Beerbohm drove in to Anaheim, CA and was vending vintage comics in April 1971.

Fun fact: that Kirby 8 plate 'Deities' portfolio was created from superheroes Kirby dreamed up in the late 1960's while still at Marvel. Later published by DC as the Fourth World titles: New Gods, etc.

Now, that was a guest line-up! All for $3. and FREE autographs. I would have gone with bells on!

Crikey, I just read the fine print. $3 was admission for all three (3) days of this 1971 Anaheim comic con. Stick your nose close to several Frazetta oil on canvas paintings in wonderment and awe! Kirby not bad either, as he was debuting a portfolio of fresh characters. e.g. Darkseid, Mr. Miracle, Metron with Moebius chair, and Orion before the release of 'New Gods' #1.

  3. The expanded WCC has now sold out of all wall, centre dealer's tables and artist alley stage tables. Wait-lists have been set up for all 3 categories in case of any cancelations. Thank u to all the collector and vendor support. We are trying to arrange 1 ATM for the show. Dealers will have access to free wi-fi to run their cr card apps.  Hope to see u all Sunday August 13, 2023.

But 6 of the 7 had misidentified headers for the magazines in the case. So here I wait. It will be well over a year total. Where is the Quality control for checking these?

QC must be busy finalizing the new mag Cgc cases with fewer oil looking stains, as 'the competitor' just released their brand new mag slab design also.

Why did Matt and Ian create faux Double Action #1s? They didn't think a real one existed so they created what it might look like??? So Ian could complete his DC collection? But then a real one was discovered?

Yes. Not sure when the faux Double Action 1's were built: about 10 years ago? 1 Frankensteined master copy of Double Action 1 then the other 7 copies photocopied with a color laser copier for a total of about $4k in costs to Ian?

Ian told me on the phone that Matt Nelson put this together for him and from what he knows over the years this is what it would have looked like. I would say he was wrong since a copy did come to Auction on CC. I guess the answer to your question is (shrug)

I wonder how many coverless More Fun, All-American, Movie Comics or Mutt and Jeff comics Mr. Nelson chopped up to marry 7-8 copies of the faux Double Action #1 at a price of $500/copy for Ian?

If all they needed or wanted was 10 copies it seems to me that the minimum order quantity is neither here nor there?    If I want 10 copies but your minimum quantity is 1,000 I can just have 10 printed and pay the rate for 1,000 -  I might not even want the hassle of dealing with the extra 990 copies if I don't intend to distribute.

But they did not have print on demand technology in 1939. To set up a 64 page comic, run then stop a web press may even mean a minimum print run of 2k copies collated. Give away the extras at the All-American/National comics Dec, 1939 X-mas party?

The low graded copies are a mystery. Looking at just the issues that have been graded, we have one 9.4, two 9.2, and one 3.0 for blue labels. The qualified 9.0 is a mystery (maybe a frankenstein cobbled together-that might possibly explain the restored 0.5). Then there are the 5.5 and 0.5 restoreds. I can understand why people WANT it to have been distributed on a newsstand and the existence of lower graded copies would certainly seem to support that assertion

We will likely never know for certain but it is fun to theorize.

As extra fuel for pontification, how many copies would have been in that print run?

Realistically a minimum 1k copy b/w print run with color cover then collated. Returns later pulped for the war effort?

pretty nice artwork... I can only imagine how kids reading it would be thrilled by the characters and stories.. as simple as they are to our eyes, they were fresh to theirs.

At that time (cover date Jan, 1940), the More Fun stories reprinted were about 2 years old. Seemed like a DC test case to see if NY kids would spend 10c on Double Action #2, an all black and white comic with no ads, rather than a color comic with perhaps some black/white/red story art (like More Fun, Detective Comics, Action Comics) with color ads.

  10. 1. I would not bring the 7 longs of full comic series to the con unless u have a pre-sale set up.

    2. Build your own wall rack for security and to max out your display of premium comics, slabs.

    3. U have the option to sign up for Square or Helcim on your cell phone for cr card sales, as comics /toys are impulse purchases. Cosplayers don't usually have pockets to carry much cash so they just carry a cr card.

    4. Would recommend paying a bit extra for a 10' x 10' booth at a corner location. This will increase your foot traffic in case u are set up next to a 30' tower of t-shirts, Funkos or movie posters.

    5. Shoplifters all around so partner up with your buddy to watch each other's booth(s) esp. on the Saturday which is usually busier for retail sales than the Sunday. Good luck.

I wonder if there will be a pressing service for these?

I read that CGC will have a basic cleaning service that may remove price stickers from one's factory sealed cassette tapes even though stickers are part of the fun retail history of the item.

How many grading tiers for VHS or Betamax at CGC? Their competitor (that shall remain unnamed) has standard size slabbing at $90 US or upgrade to archival UV slabbing at $125 US each.
