SHOW US YOUR GOLDEN AGE CANADIAN COMICS
aardvark88 replied to eccomic's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
Here is an interesting listing of the top 21 of 27 Marvel Comics Group titles selected for color reprinting in Canada by Bell Features: -
Vendor parking immediately next to PNE Forum building is $13. For those that don't mind hiking in 4-5 blocks, there should be some 'free' street parking. Fan Boy already stated the parking lot at the southeast corner of Hastings St at Renfrew is $10 all day. A wide variety of comic collectibles will be available at the show with new expanded hours Sunday 10:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.:

Sign of the times. Late 1920's and 1930s, folk were hungry for sci-fi and magic stories: -

yes, that is true, as Vader's black helmet would have been hard to see against the dark blue color of space backdrop. Chaykin's original SW poster #1 before Hildebrandt's:

Since Fan Expo Vancouver (FEV) has media guest Pamela Anderson, perhaps you would like to get Lynda Carter (WW, Supergirl tv series) at Calgary Expo?

For those vendors that have 'wall' tables and wish to lean their wall rack against the wall, the wall's height is 5 feet 2 inches.

CAPTAIN MARVEL starring Brie Larson (3/8/19)
aardvark88 replied to Bosco685's topic in The Movie Forum
Bump for the new origin of female Capt Marvel trailer. Flashback to fighter jet reminds me of Star Sapphire's jet from Green Lantern movie. Looks like quite a lot of outer space CGI on the helmeted Capt Marvel. Marvel could expand the Kree-Skrull war plot over 3 interlinked movies including the 2nd (or is that 3rd if you include the Roger Corman low budget 1st film) rebooted FF movie. -

The problem is not in skimming the top 10 raw comics out of a collection. The problem is the amount of labor, space and time to turnover the rest of the 4,000 comic collection. Also, the LCS proprietor has been trying to quietly sell his shop for last 3 years with no active buyer wanting to run a comic and gaming shop close to the suburbs. You can forget about the outrageous downtown triple lease rent (monthly rent, utilities plus property tax). Depends on the local economy of your state or province too: job creation, ageing seniors, demographics, lack of young families, recession, crazy rent or townhouse prices, shrinking home sizes so no space for long boxes anymore. -
I would recommend that the comicon organizer also update their website with pics from their latest con showing the layout, variety of vendors of Pop Culture, and their happy fans/collectors. In some cities that have 3 or 4 different comicon organizers (not counting weekend flea markets or monthly antique shows), I notice some 1 day shows are taking place on Sat. rather than Sunday, as the calendar is too crowded.

Don't forget the 1st app. of Spider-Duck in the back pages of Marvel Tales with Todd McFarlane's Spidey and X-men cover. No downside, as Peter Porker needs an extended family in his animated universe. Time to spec? Cross-over potential with Howard the Duck and GotG? -
M.I. #2 had signature John Woo directing like slow-motion villian stomping toward hero (Ethan Hunt), white doves floating upward, pistols blasting, great motorcycle stunts being launched against one another.

By Uptown New Westminster, did you mean near Columbia St where 2 skytrain lines cross? That is where first Golden Age Collectables shop circa 1975 started out. Rent would be cheaper in New West than Lougheed Mall or expanding Brentwood Mall with it's new condo towers and community center being built. -
Don't forget the $10 to park at the southeast corner of Hastings at Renfrew St, Vancouver. I imagine the vendor's vans and SUVs will all take up the $15 PNE parking next to the Forum building. Restocked some good reading:

My buddy Paul L used to have a small comic shop on Commercial Drive south of Broadway (at E. 11th Ave) about 26 years ago. Comic vendors always looking for pockets of cheap rent in East Vancouver. e.g. David Grannis (ex of Collector's Books and Comics pre-Bizarre Bazaar) had a back issue and record LP shop at Kingsway/Fraser St. but this was about 30 years ago. There is already a small gaming and some comics store at Rupert St/Grandview Hwy (E. 12th Ave). North Burnaby has no comic store left after Taz Comics moved to Vancouver side of E. Hastings St. /Boundary Rd. -

New 2 bedroom condos in Metrotown, Burnaby used to be $500k, now they are close to $600k. Rundown detached houses 45 to 110 years old sell fast on the poor East Vancouver side of town for $1.3 mil. I am still hoping the 2 last Comicshop employees are able to find another retail space along W. 4th Ave or West Broadway else where are their 200 subscribers all going to move to? 8th Dimension Comics or downtown to Golden Age? I would recommend they try to open up a shop in North Surrey which is the nexus of a newer skytrain line being extended to Guildford mall side. Lots of young families in Surrey and the Tri-Cities area. -

+1. The other problem this creates is cashflow to buy incoming SA, BA, CA back issue collection(s) that you may be offered each month. Could be high profit margin if vendor is able to buy a nice collection of say 2k to 4k comics each month for a reasonable price. Some LCS have stopped buying collections altogether for the last 4 years but will take the better back issues on consignment to spruce up their wall display. -

My LCS has short boxes of variants also asking 1/2 price. He does not want to blow them out in $1 bin, as they used to be 'hot' 2 years ago. Sorry, if it is a non-key and has not sold in 3 years, put it in the 50c bin until the semi-annual sale. Then blow them out at 10c each to create storage space for the newer weekly variants, as retail space, staff labor and downtown property tax is $$ costly. -
At least the Van Comic Show (VCS) is a much larger con than the annual Bellingham con where the admission is $10 US. That BLI con has a Vancouver, WA vendor drive north to set up. I restocked some McFarlane covers:

Too bad Simonson will usually not do any sketches or sell any of his original published comic art. I believe he is still signing comics for free or by donation to a charity. I should be able to attend Calgary for shopping and to help greggy carry his sack of US greenback$.

I actually sell SA Sub-mariner consistently, as it is more readable than SA Aquaman or slow titles like Plastic Man. Harley actually had a customer at Fan Expo Vancouver that wanted to fill in large chunks of his SA Subby run.

Add John Bolton when he drew Kull for a Marvel mag and Marada(sp?), the She-wolf for Epic mag. Re: Tom Grindberg: he must have just graduated Continuity Studios with his homage to Neal Adams and angular layouts for Detective Comics annual 1991:
