  1. No booklets I saw. Very clever set ups for all exhibits. Star Trek was closed while there. Bummer.
  2. So, this may have been shared before but I figured another dose of classic Marvel goodness never hurt... Two weeks ago we were on vacation out in Seattle. I knew we were planning on visiting this museum, near the Space Needle. Little did I know how cool it was! (Or at least someone like me. Wife and oldest daughter were "eh".) I took a bunch of pictures and thought I'd share them. Now, I'm not sure if the Marvel Exhibit is a traveling one but it shocked me with all the original comics, art and costumes. The opening 4 minute video was very good though I was struck with the lesser focus on Spidey and the X-Men. Not sure if it was Disney's hand in it or not. While I didn't get a picture, the first exhibit you go to after the video had a CGC VG4.0 Marvel Comics #1 there on loan. The next booth had the following: Oh my lord, the aficionado in me went into overdrive. Surely my family understood the importance of these... I noticed that a lot of the original art was on loan from an "Eric Roberts". Someone from here? The actor? So, after that area, you go through a number of themed rooms. Being a Bronze Age X-Men fan, the GS X-Men #1 and Byrne cover were awesome to behold. The Romita concept art for Spiderman #129 was very cool. These are only a smattering of what is there. I would guess I only took pictures of less than 20%. (I needed my 14 year old self from 1980 along...) Additionally, there is a Horror, Sci- Fi, Fantasy and HOF section. All the following pictures are original costumes or props. (Oh, and I left out all the Rock and Roll items except the drum kit from John Bonham. Again just a small amount of what's there. If in the area, I highly recommend! Thanks for letting me share.
  3. Wrightson Swamp Things Micronauts w/ Golden art Byrne FF (I'm showing my 70's and 80's bias...)
  4. Way back in the early 80’s, I think I used to have that 22000 Leagues but I think mine was from the 1950’s. Got rid of it in college in mid-80’s. Maybe mine was a Four Color?
  5. I used to have the #5 Clown story as a Record I believe. Wish I kept it and the Werewolf by Night one
  6. Interesting topic! For me, you might be spot on, Kav regarding the multi-issue arc of Marvel. I still remember going to the grocery store in Adrian, MI with my grandmother. I was given 50 cents to buy a comic. I was looking at a FF or Aquaman. I think I was 10 or 11 at the time and the Aquaman seemed like it had more stories and all in one book. Later, I got these at the K-Mart in Adrian as well. Great reading while I stayed with my grandparents on weekends occasionally. Not much else to do in Adrian, MI. When I got this, I really started to appreciate Marvel more. Now, I did enjoy the X-Men as a friend had #107 which I read and thought was great. I loved Wolverine before Wolverine was cool. But I didn't start collecting X-Men until #138. JLA was my first collected title with #156 which I shared a few weeks ago. I love both titles yet since I'm a sentimental collector, my collection leans a little heavier with DC. But nothing to me was better than the Claremont/Byrne X-Men run back in the day. (At least superhero based. Wrightson's Swamp Thing is a strong favorite as well.) Maybe the early New Teen Titans rivaled X-Men for me.
  7. Well, this is 24 years at this show for me. It got me back into the hobby after a 10 year hiatus when I realized my "28 year old self" could afford a JLA #3. I didn't take show pictures, just pictures of my purchases. This year, got there a little late at 11:30 thinking the line would be better than last year when I was early. At first, I thought I was very, very wrong as the line snaked all the way around the convention center. But, it went pretty fast and we only waited about 40 minutes vs the 1 hour last year. Because my daughter and nephew were with me again this year, I had to move through the show faster than in the past. Went to my two constant stand-bys: Bob Storms and Dale Roberts. I think I've bought something from Dale at every show for at least 20 years. I trust their grading implicitly. Show was packed. The toughest choice I had to make was at Bob's booth. I've collected World's Finest since I was 12 years old though it's never been as dominant as JLA, X-Men, Conan, etc. Bob had a VG #71 and the CGC 6.0 #7. Even though the #71 is on my "grail" list, I couldn't pass up the iconic cover of #7 and owning a GA WW2 era DC book. It's the oldest book in my collection now. So, count me in the Golden Age Appreciation Club. The Batman #198 and Flash #217 were from Dale. The Batman is an upgrade to a 2.0 beat up copy my 13-year old self bought in 1979. I couldn't resist the X-Men Annual #1 from Bob and the Avengers #71 from Dale. Bob brought some beautiful Red Sonja's for me. It's a shame the interior art is so horrendous in my book. I have been quietly plugging away at my Marvel Team Up collection. I've always had the Byrne issues but winning Greggy's Raffle Box a few years ago caused me to go for the series. Picked up a beautiful #2 from Dale that I wasn't planning on. Also some MTO from Lange and Collector's Zone, plus other misc. Last stop was Neal Adam's booth. I bought a GL #76 Print last year for him to sign. This year, I couldn't resist his iconic Batman "sprint". It's great to have the kid's with me but I do miss out on going at my pace through the show and meeting fellow Boardies. Thanks for letting me share!
  8. Motor City on Saturday for me. I will stop by Dale’s and Bob’s booths which is a given. Been buying from both for years.
  9. Congratulations so far! I have about 1/3 to 1/2 of #1 - 93 and the a run from #94 to #310. I will probably never buy many books past #310 as it's not really my genre. #1 may be out of my financial reach as well. But I still plug away at the SA titles and some BA upgrades. The Byrne run hit me as an early, impressionable teen and I love them to this day. I'm proud to say I was a Wolverine fan before it became in fashion.
  10. This week, I received my "upgrade" of the comic (from Superworld) that got me hooked on collecting, JLA 156. I hadn't paid attention to the date until I looked at the CGC label and it struck me that it's been almost 40 years! I still remember buying this JLA at the drugstore in Sylvania, OH and still have it. It didn't maintain the greatest shape as my 12 year old self read it multiple times. This was one of my seminal collecting moments in that me and my best friend (who also bought it) discovered you could collect comics. That began a 40 year journey with a 10 year interval from 1984 - 1994 (college and starting a family, job, etc.) that goes onto today. God, 40 years makes me feel old. Additionally, I got some other upgrades with my order. (You can clearly tell I'm a Bronze Age influenced collector). The JLA 141 is an upgrade to a back issue I bought years ago. The Adventure 462 upgrade was one I bought at the drug store back in the day, got rid of it in college, bought what was sold as a NM on Mile High about 15 years ago only to get a VF8.0 (if I'm lucky) and now this beautiful copy. (I learned my lesson fast regarding Mile High's grading consistency though a couple books came as advertised so no huge complaints). Lastly, X-Men 132 which my mom bought me a copy for Christmas in 1981 for $1. (I still have it though it's a 9.0 most likely) Still am impressed in how she deduced I wanted it. She watched me go through the back issues at the Comic Shop in Toledo and noticed I paused on this and others. They were less than 1 year old at the time but a rapidly "hot" title. She went back the next day and bought me some. As always, thanks for letting me share!
  11. I had it pegged at a VG 4.0 . Thanks for the input!

  13. I have another version of this (thanks to Greggy!). I'm curious how to grade this one. The dent on top of front cover bugged me. Love the 100 Pagers!
  14. I had this for quite awhile until I bought an upgrade from Bob Storms. When I bought this as a teenager back in the early 80's, I thought I was "something" owning #8. I'll share what I thought this always was. Cover is secure and no tears (that's a crease through the "t" in Justice)
  15. Didn’t seem to work. At least from my IPad
