  1. Went to a little local comic show today and picked up these 8 books for a total of $2. The show appeared to be horrible for buying anything that wasn't overpriced, beat up or 90's dreck. I stopped by a booth with about 12 long boxes and the older lady was selling some of her late husband's books. Tons of 90's stuff like 2099, etc. . But the Conan #37 caught my eye so I went through it a bit more. Found a 35cent variant, Belit's 2nd appearance, the #37 (someone used it as a coaster on the back cover so it's probably a G2.0 at best.) I already own all of them in better shape (except the 35 cent variant) but I couldn't resist for $2. The TPB of Superman was worth it alone for the read. Now, this I got for free from a friend this summer. It's a hard cover of the #17 (1987) OSPG. Do these truly go for what OSPG says they do? I would say this is a Fine 6.0.
  2. Happened to use a similar name "shadow" by accident on an old Moody Blues site and I used it here. I grabbed the album cover of the Moody Blues "Stange Times" as my picture. Btw, the real name is Dan
  3. Funny as I did the same last night. I googled "Line Bloom Draper" who I took lessons from circa 1977. She was relatively well known in Toledo. I found out she had passed away in 2004 at age 86.
  4. I took art lessons at the Toledo Museum of Art when I was in first, second and third grade. That was followed by a year at the Toledo Artists Guild and then a year with a private instructor , Lynn Bloom Draper. Mix in junior high and high school.... Always loved to draw as a kid in the 1970's but I will freely admit there weren't as many distractions back then like DVDs, computer games, endless channels devoted to kids programming, movie rentals, etc. All I'd do s try and recreate pictures from comics plus my own ideas.
  5. I went to college for art. So I've taken a lot of fine art classes. My degree was in drawing before picking up the education degree. I also took various photography, design, craft, digital, etc. classes. Currently I teach art in a public school setting. I also offer private lessons for all ages out of my house and at a nearby museum. Perhaps checking those outlets might prove beneficial? Drawing is something that can be learned. I say grab a sketchbook and start drawing. Draw everything and anything. Observation and imagination. Like other's suggested, YouTube has some good resources... The book Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain as a lot of activities that I've found to be good for practice. (There is also a full copy of her video on YouTube floating around). +1. I also took drawing in univeristy. I started drawing when I was 3 years old and put a lot of time into developing my skill. My advice is as above. 1. Draw often 2. Draw all sorts of things from anatomy to animals to objects 3. Learn how to draw different shapes freehand. From bsic shapes is the building block to drawing anything 4. learn perspective ( many great youtubes on this ) A drawing class may help but it will depend greatly on the instructor and the fellow students if you actually learn anything. Ditto. I started at 3 also. I had a partial scholarship to the Columbus College of Art & Design back in 1984, but it was still too expensive for me to go. So, I chose Marketing... (No regrets) My specialty was drawing and I challenged myself in my late 20's to tackle oil and then acryllic painting. I actually took an evening class at the local high school. I still find it a great way to relax. And I credit the Boards with getting me to do the superhero work again. It gave me an outlet to share and have others appreciate in addition to my family. And I also get to see the amazing talent here on the Boards and learn some tips. As a kid, I did these superhero drawings all the time and still have some I did at age 12 - 15. (Just found some Micronauts drawings... )
  6. Very nice. Watercolors? I've always struggled with those.
  7. Since this is our historic gallery of the artwork done by Boardies here... I just got the prints back I had made for my latest picture. About a month ago I started a new picture featuring Spidey vs. his Rogues. I managed to get 13 villians into it. I figured this might make a nice gift for my nephew's for Easter. Similar to my last picture with the Avengers, I used mixed media color again. Lots of Prismacolor markers and colored pencils. Most pictures tend to take a "life" of their own. This one evolved into how unorganized the villians are to get a "crack" at Spidey. Couldn't think of a clever name like the "Clueless Thirteen" to go with the Sinister Six. Please excuse the picture with the "flash" on it but it represents the colors best. I did print some extras just in case anyone is interested. As always, thanks for letting me share!
  8. Since this is unofficially our CGC Gallery, I will add my Avengers picture I posted a week or so ago. Too bad we can't have a virtual gallery to see all the talent here. Best I could get with my camera.
  9. I still have Soldier Ape and Astronaut in the first video.
  10. I always feel awkward going up to check out garage sales. No good idea why. My loss...
  11. I had the Space Invaders and Football. I'm pretty sure neither works anymore.
  12. Freakies cereal! I loved it as a kid. Cool case!
  13. What does the 1979 Alien figure go for out of the box? I have it (got it for Christamas back in 1979 or 1980.) No intention to sell just curious. I still have some Batman and Planet of the Apes Megos, full size GI Joes, Lone Ranger, 6 Million Dollar Man, etc. Though most of thopse were well played with.
  14. Not sure if I put this here yet but I did share it on the site. It's my X-Men companion to the JLA piece. 14 X 17
  15. Painting I did for our bedroom. Not superheros and bad lighting.
