  1. Too tough to tell then. Try scanning again without the plastic. I take all of mine out to scan. If that's the sleeve, then I think your copy is pretty nice. (thumbs u
  2. It looks like it's had a lot of water damage. If so, I'd say a straight 2.0
  3. It took me decades but very satisfying when it happened.
  4. I know that if money wasn't an issue, I'd get sucked into the high grade, CGC realm pretty easy. But, it's still a hobby for me and one that I don't spend huge amounts on. (Now that house is paid off, maybe I can convince my wife that the collection deserves more moola? ) I try never to use a credit card for comic purchases, especially at shows as it would be too tempting. I tend to save up for 6 months for the Motor City Show and bring cash. I'm excited for this next one as I've saved up $1000.00 which is about double what I usually bring. Of course, I still like to get a lot of books for the buck also.
  5. I started collecting JLA's back in 1978 I believe. It was the issue (maybe #156) and "The Fiend With 5 Faces". Soon after that I got a Fine copy of JLA #76 which I thought was ancient at the time. (Less than 10 years old at the time. I guess it's perspective at age 12 or so. ) So, though I took a break of almost 10 years for college and marriage, it's been a long JLA journey. About 10 years ago I started buying some of the books in better shape. When I was a teenager, I didn't care as much about the grade just how many books I could make $15 buy at the Comic Shop. (thumbs u Heck, here is the Fiend with 5 Faces: [/img]
  6. Don't worry, I can't afford the beautiful copies you seek out. (thumbs u I'm happy with VF on many. Dan
  7. Shadow, I always feel like collecting another title after seeing some of the cool books in other threads...but I have so many JLA's that I still need so I make myself stay focused. Since you are pretty much finished and are looking just to upgrade, I agree with Tim that you could do a little of both. IMHO, I would probably aim for B&B 28 and 30 before going after more JLA upgrades or X-men books...Since the prices on the B&B's will continue to go up What numbers are you still looking for?

IMHO, I would probably aim for B&B 28 and 30 before going after more JLA upgrades or X-men books...Since the prices on the B&B's will continue to go up I'm probably going to look pretty serious for a B&B #30 at this years Motor City Show. That book reminds me a lot of JLA #2 in that I tend not to find it in my price/grade range. I've wanted a VG to F grade but found them to be over-priced or over-graded. I might look more serious at a Fine grade this May because I'm bringing more money than normal for me. I'm afraid I passed up on a B&B #28 3.0 two years ago out of fear it was a PLOD. The price was only $300 but the booth was a mess and I felt something was wrong. I think I got overly-paranoid. On the other hand, I did get GL #76 & FF #28 instead. Both in nicer shape. Live and learn. I know I'll get the B&B #28 someday though probably only in Good 2.0. Who knows, maybe I'll hunt it down instead of the #30 this spring.
  9. Do both? I still do both. I just focused my collecting on the JLA so much the past few years that it's almost habit now.
  10. Here's a quandry I'm in and I'm sure others are or have been here also. Last year, I completed my JLA collection as I bought #2 and that was the last one I needed for the entire run. (Except B&B 28 and 30) There are still JLA's on my want list that I want in better shape. And when I look at Metropolis or go to a show, I'm still looking for these upgrades instead of solely focusing on other titles on my want list. I'm torn between focusing on titles like X-Men, like I did for JLA the past 7 years, or upgrading the JLA's. Now, this will probably logically answer myself (but sentiment get's in the way), I have no intention of selling my books. I have around 40 JLA duplicates now that I've upgraded but I still have no intention of trading or selling them. I do have the intention of giving them to my daughter or one of my nephew's if they ever have an interest in the hobby. (A great starter set that I would've loved as a kid. ) Anyone else find themselves in this situation? Sometimes I feel like I should move on to another title I like instead of getting another book that I already own.
  11. I agree. There's a respectful distance to keep on-line. You get comfortable and can step over that boundary at times. Of course, "where" the boundary is, is different for everyone here.
  12. Great looking #29! It was one of my first "back issue" purchases back in 1979. Of course, my copy might be a 3.0. When I bought this as a kid, I remember thinking that this must be an important issue as it was the "2nd" time they united.
  13. Thanks Shadow (thumbs u All JLA books no matter the grade is appreciated on this thread True. I'm just marveling at the grades you guys own though. Sheesh.
  14. Beautiful books everyone. I think we can name this Thread "No Country For Old, 8.0 or less Books".
  15. Those are very interesting. I've never seen them before.
  16. Thanks for sharing the OA and the old books! The armor on the cover of the 1950's book threw me off though.
  17. I like the Conan books a lot. Some great covers and artwork. Mix in some entertaining stories. There was more buzz 25 years ago but there was also more for Teen Titans, Dazzler, Cloak & Dagger.... I think a good, R-rated HBO or Showtime series could revive some interest.
  18. (thumbs u Or the interiors of the original JLA series, from what I recall. I believe you're correct.
  19. I'll see you at the JLA Bronze thread. JKRK, nice B&B #28!
