  1. On E-bay If you type in: " sugar and spice " 8 listings come up in error As a war comic collector you would think S & S wouldn't be all that interesting to me but they have to be the coolest funny books next to Archie
  2. all of those covers are laugh out loud funny !!! the first time you see them and even after that !!!
  3. NM 98 is the ugliest and most convoluted cover for an expensive key that I have ever seen , I wouldn't pay cover price for it other than the fact its worth more, same for BA12 ,..and.... I think even I can draw a cover as good as that one , good thing that even hideous cover art does not affect these two modern keys and help burst the bubble.
  4. Collectrons #1 issue is 3 times nicer looking than the copy currently for sale on E-bay for $1800.00
  5. don't be so modest about your sugar n spike #1 that is a great copy !!!!
  6. So true! NEVER understand this logic of first comic nostalgia,,, me and all my buds bought comics from the spinner racks in the mid 70's and loved them , but always in the back of our minds back then we wished we could get our hands on the older stuff from the 60's and 50's , we heard stories of a buddies older brother who had these comics and we could only dream of ever getting one,... well now that we are adults we can afford to buy within reason those comics we could only dream about in our youth and not for a second do we long for or want to go back for nostalgia purposes and reacquire those we already had. , we want to get the comics that we could not get or afford as a youth.
  7. Happy new years ! and I shouldn't have dismissed Fox and Crow so quickly, sounds like they might have a devoted following too although nothing like the Suga N Spike following !! Don't worry I will not get into bidding wars in the foreseeable future for S&S as I am a 1950's war collector but maybe when that phase is over I will !!
  8. Oh I am serious , I wish there truly was as little demand as implied here on this thread,.... now the Fox and Crow comparison HA ha... that is an insult !! !!
  9. fox and who????????? zero demand.. DREK !!! Sugar and Spike ,..brother you have no idea what time it is on that one.....no idea at all........
  10. there is huge demand for the book in lower grades, very few humor collectors care about registry sets or a high CGC grade and very few humor collectors wish to spend 4 grand .... a BIN copy at a decent price would sell within minutes on e-bay , countless humor collectors have it on their e-bay notify aps and a decent low grade copy priced accordingly would sell immediately upon listing it is so hard to get and there is so much demand that most potential collectors just give up and move on to other series upon realization that it is not attainable unless you wait years or get lucky.
  11. Well nobody is going to find it on e-bay in the golden age 1938-1955 listings unless it is listed in error you might better try finding one in the "silver age" listings on e-bay .........
  12. +1 Another book whose value is mainly attached to scarcity. Demand is not as high as you think. Brother you have NO idea... I only wish you were correct with the low demand statement,
  13. ssshhhhhhhh ...!! , I know its not a super key but... like mentioned , it is so hard to get that its people just give up on it $3888.00 for a CGC 7.5 isn't chump change , and it is NEVER available and when it is it is snatched up immediately (not counting that non graded possible PLOD on e-bay) close to a grand for a CGC 3.5 is way on par of a Daredevil #1 and many others in and around the silver age top 20,
  14. Ok I am exaggerating a bit but it could be a Gerber 8, It is an awesome silver age key DC #1 book of a long running and beloved series that is so tough that Heritage has only sold 3 or 4 in their completed listings, a CGC 7.5 sold for $3,888 in 2012 and is offered at $5000 minimum now, regardless of what may be said there IS huge demand for this book but it is just not available, so people just give up,.. there is one for sale on e-bay and has been for years but it is $1800.00 or so and being ungraded nobody would dare touch that as it could be a possible PLOD If you know the answer don't give it away just yet , but tell what you think about the book, do you have one or know anyone who does
  15. http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Brave-and-The-Bold-1956-10-cent-Comic-Mega-Lot-/181598695595?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item2a482030ab Did any of you boardies get one of these very fair priced lots on e-bay last month? there was three lots of six early brave and bold each; I picked up the last one left which included 15,16,17,18,20,22 and they average VG so I am please but I wish I could have gotten all three lots as that would have been 75% of the whole 1-24 run !!
  16. http://www.ebay.com/itm/181598690138?_trksid=p2059210.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT an ebay seller was offering three decent lots of six comics each of Brave and Bold pre issue #25. and one lot was left that I was able to get last night , the other two lots looked even better and at a very fair price. after seeing this thread I really like B&B issues 1-24 !!!!!
  17. the banzai charge on the left side cover of showcase 53 is classic , it reminds me of my all time favorite DC war cover ,..that being OAAW #2
  18. my quote to the negative person (silverdream) on this thread is: "you continue to rain on someone else's joyful parade and continue to justify it?? that is pathetic ! I am ashamed that you would downplay someone who is building. a registry set that they are passionate about. You are not impressed? well I am and I have not sold her any comics, I have checked the registry and it is very well done with pictures and info.
  19. If you had scoured the earth for a decade building this high grade set, finding many copies raw, ebay copies in mixed lots and such, I would be much more excited for you. That's exactly what she did and has been doing for sometime now. I can attest to that and also sold her one of my highly priced Whitman's. (thumbs u I'm impressed with the collection and Bonnie's determination to bring it to fruition. Shes been a board member for a year. While she could have been collecting CGC or raw before that, I doubt it. Only she could tell us that, and after reading all 56 of her posts... yeah.. I wouldn't believe it if she said she was. I am not saying she isn't determined. Part of the equation of my opinion is patience. She paid 8x what that Black Hole 4 9.8 had just recently sold for just to pry it away from the buyer. Why? To leapfrog immediately into first place with flick of the wrist ( her checkbook for you youngsters ) She wanted it so bad ( 1st place ) she threw gobs of money at it, and got it. Again, that's the whole point of what I am saying. I am not impressed with that aspect of the set/1st place, and I get even more about it when she comes here shouting look at me I'm # 1! She would have gotten there with Doug's books, or others in time, but no... Part of my enjoyment of these variants is finding them. They are absurdly difficult. While she may love her books just as much as I, or anyone else loves theirs, I personally, am not impressed with it. She may have gotten just as much Joy in writing that check or swiping her credit card and unpacking her $6,000 package as I did when I found my cherished rare books in old dingy comic shops digging through millions of comics, fingers all black ( you divers into unbagged longboxes know what I'm talking about ) and stinky from flipping through musty 70's comics. Good for her if so. Everyone gets their kicks in different ways. Why doesn't anyone commenting here understand that me not being impressed is my opinion. Period. Mine. It's how I feel. Why try to argue about that? I find it interesting that the only people on here trying to argue with my opinion , which is pretty crazy in and of itself... are people that sold her books. Imagine that. I guess I wouldn't want to pizz off one of my customers either. touché eh? you continue to rain on someone else's joyful parade and continue to justify it?? that is VERY pathetic imo
  20. the word balloons on the pictorial romance cover are classic !! and an awesome carrier cover to boot !!!
