  1. NOTE TO THE OP: I love the feel of a raw coin held by the edges in my hand , I love the ring that a gold or silver coin makes when I drop it a few inches onto a wooden table, love everything about a vintage coin, the sheen, gloss and patina, I relish studying the subtle nuances and the chocolate brown coloring of the classical large cents, but I would never EVER consider breaking open a NGC holder to accomplish this feeling, not when there are already countless raw examples for that.
  2. Curious bookstore in downtown East Lansing ,still there after 40 years three floors, although very few comics anymore but back in the day ......Daredevil #1 $20.00 Spiderman #1 $40.00.
  3. It's not about how much people like the character or want the book, it's about how many of the books exist, and the ratio between those who want and the copies in existence ("in existence" and "in the market" are not the same thing. The book is not like the Detective 33 in your sig line, which has limited supply because there just aren't as many copies in the world as there are people who'd like to have it. Everybody out there with multiple copies of that book could divest of their dupes and it would still be rare. But if everybody with multiples of New Mutants 98 divested of their dupes, those dupes could line the floors a million bird cages. The "limited" supply of NM 98 has entirely to do with the fact that there are many many copies which are being held by people. These books were not thrown out. The vast majority were treated carefully and very many of them weren't even read before being tucked away. Not even unsold copies were destroyed. There are more people banging the drum touting the value of common books because there are more people who have them to sell. But all it would take to impact the value would be a few of those people to stop banging that drum, either because they're unloading (or have unloaded their copies) or because they want to push something else (like something they have even MORE copies of), thank you Bluechip for a brilliant analysis ! the simple logic and factuality of your post is by and large ignored and ridiculed by many on these boards sad but true.. I have said all along that golden age has most of the only true rarities (where demand outweighs supply) almost NO coppers or moderns will ever come close to the demand outstripping the supply and NM 98 is a joke , reminds me of the so called " rare " camel beanie baby I have been looking for common sense posts and for someone's who's opinion I can respect so thank you !
  4. NM 98 reminds me of a 1985 Mark Mcgwire rookie card trade or sell all your NM98's now if you can , imagine being able to trade a CGC NM98 for a NGC 10 dollar indian gold piece with actual value if someone who had the coin was that foolish... with so many graded NM 98's out there chances are you can buy it back at 1/10th price in ten years if you so wanted
  5. Wow. Probably one of the funniest things I've seen in quite sometime. funny yes but the lemming scene is staged , the movie is called " white wilderness" a Disney movie from 1958 , the lemming were thrown of the cliff with a platform (obvious in one scene) you can wikopedia it
  6. great accomplishment ! completing one golden age set like this equals 1000 runs of any moderns IMO
  7. I've got something to show you. What? The suspense is killing me! awesome ! how long did it take him to draw that piece?
  8. I am working on the OAAW 1-80 set all CGC graded and not high grade either,, ( I know ,...I need a life ,..i know,..)......
  9. I don't think a shazam movie will draw crowds unless they make it a slasher movie
  10. I started collecting raw comics a couple years ago from ebay and then joined CGC so i can work on some graded sets and maybe the boardies will sell some comics i need someday, when i first started posting on these boards i had some advice for beginners as i have been an eclectic collector for many years, but i found out my advice was not welcome, the regular chat boards members do not want new members giving out any helpful advice to beginners only their opinion counts i have learned.
  11. incredible ! one of these beauties equals two dozen post 1980 books with CGC populations in the multiple hundreds
  12. thank you for posting "real" comics !!! not modern CGC population in the of 500 or more drek, a treat to see!!
  13. Best DC our army at war covers (pre Sgt Rock) 1. OAAW #2 2. OAAW #1 3. OAAW #8
  14. his prices are pretty high but he does have some elusive books so he can charge whatever he wants , his grading is reasonable I have bought a couple from him
  15. Teen titans used to be huge drek when I was a kid , all DC titles were drek or known as BRAND ECH from about the mid 60's on for a long long time.... they have recovered from the label drek but todays modern issues will never recover from drek too many printed and almost all saved in quantity
  16. Drek is 99.9% of the modern slabs, people might as well slab a national enquirer as they will have equal worth in the future
  17. you have a NICE Sgt Fury collection!!!!!
  18. It used to be that Charleton and gold key was drek but nowadays drek is just about anything since 1990
  19. wow I don't understand the logic 1500 spawn?? and to consider grading even one??? to each his own and people can even collect porcelain penguins if they want but since you collect comics have you ever even taken a look at some of the pre code golden age stuff from any genre??? wow just can't even begin to comprehend modern drek being slabbed, its just like the coin hobby where people buy a brand new proof coin from the mint that is always almost perfect and then the pay good money to get it graded as almost perfect. just sayin !!!!!!!
