  1. I was fortunate to pick up a great example of OAAW #1 CGC 6.5 and while I can't yet figure out how to put pictures on the boards, my registry set has been completed. [/
  2. As a young collector going to my LCS in the 70's, silver age Flash and Sgt Rock were the only DC comics I really enjoyed reading and collecting.
  3. wow where is peoples patience ?? nine days is nothing...I wish nine days was a long time
  4. on my way................ Hi I am heading to the MotorCityComicCon in Novi Michigan, near Detroit this morning, if I get there an hour before the 12:30 opening time I should be only 200 people back in the line. There are quite a few dealers with the golden age comics I look for and many big time dealers with all eras for sale, my want list is considerably smaller than a few years ago because of eBay. One of the headline guests is Jimmy JJ Walker and as I watched "Good Times" as a teenager I decide to look him up and read about the show on Wikipedia and was amazed to learn about the behind the scenes drama that went on during the shows run it is a very interesting read for anyone interested. I recently acquired my "HOLY GRAIL" pictured!!! To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  5. OAAW #84 is seldom offered on Ebay,..maybe every 8 months or so, and almost always a reader copy.
  6. Ha the monster in the reflection of that guys glasses on the " Space Action" cover wouldn't scare anybody !! it looks a furby doll
  7. The prices for silver and gold at my local LCS here in Michigan compares with those at Milehighcomics
  8. Someday I will figure out how to post photo's, but for now this banner is my registry set and it is my favorite war comics short run if anyone has a minute to click on the gallery and look at it !
  9. There is a neat story of the sailor who pocketed the watch of the dead kamikaze pilot who nearly sunk the Franklin and then years later returned the watch to the family in Japan
  10. There are not many war comic keys in the entire genre, Sgt Fury #13 is one of the more recognizable
  11. There wasn't that many war comics being printed anymore when Sgt Fury was released (except for Charltons) and I read that Sgt Fury was the 4th best seller for marvel out of their initial dozen releases I love the first 20 issues reads of Sgt Fury !!
  12. Wow some insane prices being asked for CGC graded war comics currently on fleece-bay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Battle-68-CGC-8-0-/301589238629?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item46381e9365 also a: Battle#70 CGC 6.0 @ $300 another: Atlas War Comics #11 CGC 5,5 @ $550 the demand is not there at this time for the prices being asked for these comics but its nice to see nice CGC graded examples offered,
  13. If you have the money and you enjoy collecting them and don't get too carried away, the worst thing about comic addiction as that they take up so much space ! One really needs to have to have a decent sized house cause you don't dare keep them in the basement.
  14. That GI is DETERMINED on the cover of OAAW #50 !
  15. - it is almost as if you didn't read the thread at all! Not saying I agree or disagree with you, but I think a few people will disagree for sure... 3...2...1...pounce! Oh I read the whole thread alright and it has been very interesting , we can only give speculative guesses, and I know my post was slightly off topic but its still about the AF15 population.
  16. The value of an AF15 is such that it actually should compare with some of the most famous 20th century key coins in a decent grade , 1909 SVDB, 1916 SLQ quarter 1916D mercury etc almost no coin collectors will risk buying a nice example of these coins ungraded as there is just too much associated risk . the same thinking would dictate that it would be awfully risky (for a non-expert) to exchange 20K for an ungraded VG AF15 Logically most all VG- or better AF15's for sale will probably be graded within the next 20 years or so, simply to protect the buyer then we will have a better figure on the number of available copies
  17. I think the non-superhero Showcase #1 and 2 are way underappreciated
  18. Wow , a strange tales complete 1-100 run, now that would be an impressive achievement in any grade and it could take half a lifetime......
  19. Its very gratifying to fill holes in complete runs
  20. Awesome pick-up of a romance genre major key !!!!!
  21. I suggested spending money in better ways, you attacked me. I made a point on how I look at things. You getting upset and name calling on a message board suggests that I may have made a valid point. I am going to take this no further, so please continue to name call and chat on this matter. You will only be talking with yourself. Planning on going to Comic Con? We can meet and chat then if you would like? PS. My Metals went to all time high in 2011-2013 Financial reality information and fiscal advice is unwelcome by many on these boards and in fact will be countered with belittling and hurtful insults as I discovered first hand when I attempted to steer beginning collectors away from slabbing modern issues and concentrate on comics that may have long term staying power such as golden age. At this point in time NO comics printed from 1975 on (modern era) should be considered for long term 30 year investments, if we happen to live that long and nothing happens to our collection during that time we may be fortunate to sell the moderns at profit then, but to count on it is very unwise. 99.5% of comics are a very fun collectables at this time but not an investment for the long term future.
  22. seller probably meant HOM first dinosaur cover, its a great comic either way!
  23. Giant size x-men #1 is a horrendous 30 year investment option IMO
  24. I believe that AF 15 could easily be at around 7500 copies in existence total as it is certainly probable that at least one third of them have been graded , it is almost too risky buying a nice raw copy these days, similar to a couple pricey key coins that almost nobody buys ungraded like the1909-SVDB or 1916D mercury unless they are in very poor shape and cheap
