  1. No kidding , if the Op is looking for a 30 year investment he better build a nice diversified stock portfolio with help of a financial expert. Comics are simply a hobby not an investment and if you are fortunate enough to recoup your initial investment or more consider yourself blessed. To expect or even count on a profit it is foolhardy.
  2. Very revealing that dealers were not interested in your HOM at all , I was thinking about collecting them and I still probably will but with the knowledge that they will be financial loss, I still think they have a very high percentage of totally fantastic covers throughout the entire run
  3. House of Mystery 1-100 are very underappreciated.
  4. Phooey ,, I would like to get a VG copy of Suga N spice #1 but even the lower end graded CGC 3.0 and 3.5 on the Heritage sold list were about $900.00 each which is out of my budget, I was hoping one would be maybe $450 or so WOW this is one tough and expensive book !!!!
  5. Hi Silver ..I hope it comes down more and more and that you can afford to get your "holy grail" someday
  6. During that 35 year hiatus color was invented, so everything is no longer black/white. It's perfectly possible to both like, support and use both CGC and the new company. It's you who are creating "sides" and this after you were clearly shown your assumption regarding CGC and trimmed books was wrong. It takes a big man to admit he messed up, clearly you are not that man. I think CGC is great , I have no dog in the hunt for them I just really like them, I don't like brand ecchh, defend them if you want, I will not, I could not imagine calling someone/anyone out who was biased FOR CGC on their own website wrongly or not, anymore than I can imagine someone going on a the Ford motor sponsored website and bashing someone on there who was criticizing Honda
  7. I like how they make those commies green colored on the cover of famous funnies #204
  8. I am biased for CGC, they are the single main reason I started collecting comics again after a 35 hiatus, in between I collected graded sportcards and have always collected graded coins,..CGC may not be perfect but I respect them, warts and all and am prepared to defend them,.. alone if necessary Friday thread or not. , against any and all who would side with either of the other two brand echh grading companies. ANYONE who has a problem and is calling me out for my bias in defending CGC on this chatboard regardless if the circumstances needs to start spending more of their time on other comic chatboards or facebook where any anti-CGC viewpoints might be more appreciated.
  9. I am glad you like them,.. but to call them a niche market would be like calling those in the numismatic field who collect seated dimes "niche series coin collectors" , there are many reasons why some coins AND comics have limited number of collectors, and one of the main reasons is because they are not instantly available, the instant gratification cannot be satisfied no matter how much money you have,..unlike ANY marvel comic series in which every issue is readily available every single day, what you would call niche series collectors (of both coins and comics) are what I consider to be the most knowledgeable and most intellectual of all the comic collectors , I applaud Millie the Model , Sugar and Spike and any and most all golden age completionist collectors. I would gladly start collecting Sugar and Spike but I know I may never find an issue #1, that is why I have yet to start a collection of them, if I knew I could get a G/VG blue label copy of issue #1 for guide I would start the entire run, but I know that may take a decade or more.
  10. Correct AND the new brand X grading company revealed their lack of integrity with that X-men 9.4 (we now know they are comparable to that 3rd other brand X grading company that slabs their own books) thank god for CGC !! Uh, no. Noobs https://www.mycomicshop.com/search?ItemID=24083835 Well you got me there with that one ,so... are you calling me out for defending CGC on their chatboards???
  11. What a ridiculous statement. sorry you disapprove of another viewpoint,.. are you defending the other company and the X-men 9.4 grade? I have never considered buying a brand X slab from day one . or the other brand X , you can if you want ..go ahead... maybe you like that trimmed X-men 9.4, I don't and I am ashamed at the high grade given for a trimmed comic and because of the grade given I will compare them to the other grading company that slabs and sells their own comics. there are now three grading companies , two of them are "spoon" and the only one worth mentioning is the sponsor of these chatboards! are you disagreeing? thank god for CGC
  12. That Famous Funnies #207 is worthy of mass produced poster or t-shirt that would probably sell nicely at Walmart
  13. Correct AND the new brand X grading company revealed their lack of integrity with that X-men 9.4 (we now know they are comparable to that 3rd other brand X grading company that slabs their own books) thank god for CGC !!
  14. Oh really ?? so I wonder who is buying all the Sugar and Spike issues 1-20 that dealers tell me they are quick movers when they get them in ??
  15. would be willing to wager that the one feedback buyer DOES NOT pay for the comic.......
  16. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sugar-and-Spike-1-1956-CGC-8-0-Highest-Graded-/161596799538?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item259feb7a32 a CGC 8.0 has just been listed on ebay for $8000.00 , it probably won't sell for anywhere near that price but regardless of what some may think ,.. Sugar and Spike #1 is rare AND desirable, is a major silver age key, and is near impossible to find..............I wish I had a decent vg
  17. Great copies, damonwad! Both the Cole and the Cappello are fantastic - I don't know how in heck you find these babies in such sweet shape. Black arts, I'm thinkin. Charlton never gets a first look, much less a second. And yet they were the undisputed #1 leader in the genre in terms of output - 1370 issues (vs #2 DC with 932 issues), most of which were cranked out from 1955 on. Everybody rags on Charlton and yet somebody was buying these books - unless Charlton was just printing for the sake of realizing the economies of scale produced through their groundbreaking vertical integration in terms of manufacturing. Charlton had distinct periods of artistic flowering, waxing and waning. A deep bullpen of talented artists, inkers and colorists. A strange fun place to work, where even Steve Ditko was tolerated and given the space to be...well, Ditko. And if you were Italian, like a lot of the Charltonians were, then the Derby compound was like the Badda Bing! was to Tony Soprano - home away from home. There were just a few issues that qualify as Charlton GA. Artie Cappello kinda owned the True Life Secrets run. Take a look. The black covers are awesome cause they make the garish coloring POP and also because they're awesomely hard to get in grade. Dr Love you have the most interesting and informative posts of anyone !! thank you
  18. Purchased a Brave and Bold #24 January 2015, for a very fair price and the packaging was very solid , will highly recommend !!
  19. in the baseball card collecting hobby the grading company is PSA and they are an excellent company, but it is well known by everyone and even the advanced collectors that it is very hard to tell the difference between even a PSA 7 and a PSA 8 WITHOUT a magnifying glass ( to say nothing of grades higher , 8.5 and 9) hardly any 10's are given except to what would be considered moderns 1972 and newer, comic book grading has similarities to baseball cards
  20. If at conventions a seller had a nice 50-100 dollar slab with one of these included free it might possibly help the sale
  21. not much distance between those four planes it seems
