The defense of Rob Lichtenfield or whatever is that "spoons" name is.. is indefensible in a comic book chat room Russ Heath is revered in the comic community and here on these CGC boards, a lamb among wolfs to defend the wolf on a comic chatboard is frankly as about as low down as possible

What makes you think that John Seward Johnson's work is "revered in the modern art world"? This is the type of kitschy crepe that appeals more to "commoners" than art critics. I still think this "Roy Litchfield" character was pretty good. well if you think copycat RLspoon is pretty good then you must think Howard Finster is Rembrandt reincarnated

Wikopedia has an interesting article on another spoon "modern" artist named John Seward Johnson , who's statues are revered in the modern art world but the rest of us commoner realize they are just spoon ,same with Litchfield,... I never even heard of this spoon Roy Litchfield until this thread and I consider myself well read and appreciative of good art, after seeing Litchfield's work I realize a was not missing anything .

There is a fancy new modern art museum near me and I can honestly say that if I bought a painting at good will for 5 bucks, and snuck it in on the museum wall , it would not be out of place.

Why wouldn't you want it because someone has 500 copies? It's not an expensive book and the black cover makes it tough in high grade. because golden age stuff is just TOO cool to me and not only doesn't anyone have 500 copies of any issue in many cases you might wait years to find an available issue period of say..... oh for example an early "Strange Adventures" and it would cost way less than MTU#1

MTU #1 , I was thinking about getting one of those but not anymore, I will just stick to my golden age stuff

and MTU #1 is actually extremely rare when compared to NM#98

Sure superhero's and keys are more lucrative but comics like BB#23 are just so much cooler and seem so much harder to find...

SSWS #53 I love these type of air combat covers where the pilot is sweating , wow all three of these are fabulous and nice higher grade , are you going to grade them?

love seeing mid grade slabs !! they still are so cool!!!! FF #45 & #52 are awesome!!! I mean if you buy a twenty dollar comic and have it graded the most you can lose is 50 bucks , if you buy a high priced item sure you might make money but you can sure lose a lot too an awful lot, way to go.....!!

NOTE TO THE OP: I love the feel of a raw coin held by the edges in my hand , I love the ring that a gold or silver coin makes when I drop it a few inches onto a wooden table, love everything about a vintage coin, the sheen, gloss and patina, I relish studying the subtle nuances and the chocolate brown coloring of the classical large cents, but I would never EVER consider breaking open a NGC holder to accomplish this feeling, not when there are already countless raw examples for that.

It's not about how much people like the character or want the book, it's about how many of the books exist, and the ratio between those who want and the copies in existence ("in existence" and "in the market" are not the same thing. The book is not like the Detective 33 in your sig line, which has limited supply because there just aren't as many copies in the world as there are people who'd like to have it. Everybody out there with multiple copies of that book could divest of their dupes and it would still be rare. But if everybody with multiples of New Mutants 98 divested of their dupes, those dupes could line the floors a million bird cages. The "limited" supply of NM 98 has entirely to do with the fact that there are many many copies which are being held by people. These books were not thrown out. The vast majority were treated carefully and very many of them weren't even read before being tucked away. Not even unsold copies were destroyed. There are more people banging the drum touting the value of common books because there are more people who have them to sell. But all it would take to impact the value would be a few of those people to stop banging that drum, either because they're unloading (or have unloaded their copies) or because they want to push something else (like something they have even MORE copies of), thank you Bluechip for a brilliant analysis ! the simple logic and factuality of your post is by and large ignored and ridiculed by many on these boards sad but true.. I have said all along that golden age has most of the only true rarities (where demand outweighs supply) almost NO coppers or moderns will ever come close to the demand outstripping the supply and NM 98 is a joke , reminds me of the so called " rare " camel beanie baby I have been looking for common sense posts and for someone's who's opinion I can respect so thank you !

NM 98 reminds me of a 1985 Mark Mcgwire rookie card trade or sell all your NM98's now if you can , imagine being able to trade a CGC NM98 for a NGC 10 dollar indian gold piece with actual value if someone who had the coin was that foolish... with so many graded NM 98's out there chances are you can buy it back at 1/10th price in ten years if you so wanted
