  1. Russo brothers will be making a movie about Stan Lee.
  2. It wasn't a complaint. It was just an observation I made (and one others have also reiterated countless times). There were empty booths and some international dealers and many locals have not been returning over the years. But that has been the general pattern for many shows that have grown larger and more expensive than they used to be. And the complaints about booth costs were comments that I had heard from smaller dealers. Most dealers are not strong business people. Just because dealer A has an amazing show it does not mean it's an amazing show for everyone. Rating systems for shows? Many dealers don't even organize their boxes, nevermind rate shows.
  3. Most people in foreign countries don't see the US the way Americans see the US. I don't think all Americans realize this .
  4. It's pretty unbelievable that theft is not a big deal anymore. Of any amount. But 6 figures? I wonder if law makers would feel differently if it was their stuff that was stolen? Unreal. And on a side note, many other crimes (like the college bribery scandal) which really doesn't harm anyone to any real degree is being dragged through the courts and television news like it's as important as the landing on the moon.
  5. I never thought it could happen but WW Chicago has almost gone the way of WW Philly. Last year there were unsold booths at the show. I think that CGC pulling onsite grading out was a large factor. Onsite grading really drives the economy at a show because people travel further to use it, it creates books onsite for people to buy / sell / trade with. It's probably the single largest factor, next to rising booth costs which have driven out all of the smaller, local guys.
  6. I think for American sellers that use the online printout shipping forms, there's extra steps involved that forces them to wait at the post office rather than just drop packages off that are already labelled and that is where some sellers don't want to put in the effort. And I understand that. I talk to Harley all the time, who travels to Asia, Australia and some of Europe and he has customers all over the world. So it's a choice to limit your market. I can also sympathize with collectors who don't have the access to stuff that we have on this side of the pond. They do complain about cost sometimes but you just have to factor things like shipping and currency exchange into your collecting habits. That's the cost of living somewhere else.
  7. John was an amazing soul to deal with. We'd spend hours talking at a show, trying to cut a deal for one book and while it tested my patience at times I learned so much from him. And he was fun as heck to deal with. We'd flip coins on a disagreed price all the time. I think we once flipped for $2500 and I won. In fact, I won the last 3 flips IIRC. Sorry, John. He's missed on the circuit.
  8. thanks for the great advice of a couple cities to avoid forever ! You mean they don't steal cars outside of San Francisco and Berkeley!?!?!?!
  9. Generally an average through all previous sales. Once in a while, if a book is tough to price because of rarity I'll slap a strong price on it and field offers but generally speaking, I'll try to price stuff in the ballpark of where the average price would be. When I was younger I used to price stuff aggressively but I came to realize that most people know that if it's a book they are looking for, they know how much a book should go for and stuff would sell in that range (unless it was a super hot book that was rising in price aggressively - in that case, it's a seller's market).
  10. Shipping: Certified books, shipping is included FREE within North America, ROW we split it. Raw books, include $10 for shipping within North America. ROW I will split with interested parties. Who wins: Time stamp seals the deal as to who wins regardless of the form of communication (including PM, in the thread, text or phone conversation). A negotiation is not a deal until both sides have agreed on terms. If there is an unconditional posted (or communicated) it will trump all negotiations unless we have already both agreed to terms before the was posted. In that case, the will have been in vain. Except that it will give you street cred and look cool to passers by. No House Of Shame or Probationary members or any others of ill repute. Returns: Raw books: I am considered a very good grader among my peers ( Here is a link to my kudos thread ) but since even CGC is inconsistent I will not guarantee a CGC grade. I will guarantee to be within one grade increment in either direction - so if I am calling the book a 9.4 it could go 9.2 or 9.6. If it falls outside of those parameters (and it does happen that they go in both directions), I will offer a refund. But I don't expect anyone to complain if I undergraded it. I will accept returns if item is otherwise not as described. Consider all books pressed. Payment: Paypal, Bank Wire, Check or MO.
  11. I did think about that after I typed my post. Ideally, the seller should have asked you to specifically mark the package OR eBay should be doing it but this is a 'live and learn' situation. Not ideal, but now you know. So did you declare the packages with the negs / neutrals as comic books?
  12. But they don't, which is why the GSP is complete junk to people who are receiving the books. Canadians are only supposed to pay a 5% tax for comic books but they get charged through the nose. UK buyers aren't supposed to pay any, but they often get charged. GSP is great for sellers, not so great for many buyers. I have no idea. I don't use eBay's GSP. Well, there are nut bars everywhere. Not just outside your own borders. But you did fail to mark the package properly as you admitted yourself that you print labels as quickly as possible, so in this case it wasn't entirely the buyer's fault.
  13. And you've never received a negative or a neutral from someone on this side of the pond that is out to lunch? You can have the negs removed if they are unnecessary, which in this case it was. Which country was it shipped to? If it's the UK, all packages to the UK should have the follwing in them (I learned this from a boardie) "Printed Matter - comic book" and Tariff code "4902900000".
  14. I just don't understand the mindset of people who refuse to ship outside of the US. There is an entire world out there. Sure, it's a bit more work, and you need to do some diligence but the Us only comprises a small percentage of the rest of the world. And yes, I understand the risks, the hassles and everything else. But as in everything there is going to be a learning curve. I guess it all depends on why you're selling. As a business person, you're just shooting yourself in the foot if you avoid the rest of the world.
  15. Batman Adventures #1 CGC 9.8 White - for whatever reason, this book seems to be heating up again Asking $2000 (shipping included) SOLD!
