  1. Look at mine. You are at the mercy of the site. Only the moderators can change it.
  2. It's just internet humor and people are having fun. None of it is meant to be malicious. And the more obvious the answer to someone's question the bigger the hazing. Anyhow, no harm meant by anyone in this thread that I can see (including my replies). When I joined here 14 years ago I needed to grow a thicker skin quickly.
  3. I'm going to close this thread out and move the book. If anyone has interest, they know how to reach me. Thanks for looking!
  4. Shipping: Certified books, shipping is included FREE within North America, ROW we split it. Raw books, include $10 for shipping within North America. ROW I will split with interested parties. Who wins: Time stamp seals the deal as to who wins regardless of the form of communication (including PM, in the thread, text or phone conversation). A negotiation is not a deal until both sides have agreed on terms. If there is an unconditional posted (or communicated) it will trump all negotiations unless we have already both agreed to terms before the was posted. In that case, the will have been in vain. Except that it will give you street cred and look cool to passers by. No House Of Shame or Probationary members or any others of ill repute. Returns: I am considered a very good grader among my peers ( Here is a link to my kudos thread ) but since even CGC is inconsistent I will not guarantee a CGC grade. I will guarantee to be within one grade increment in either direction - so if I am calling the book a 9.4 it could go 9.2 or 9.6. If it falls outside of those parameters (and it does happen that they go in both directions), I will offer a refund. But I don't expect anyone to complain if I undergraded it. I will accept returns if item is otherwise not as described. Consider all books pressed. Payment: Bank wire, check or MO.
  5. There's this new thing called Google. You should try it.
  6. They just don't build threads like they used to.
  7. It's not so much about your actual age as it is about the era you grew up in. Most older collectors grew up reading and handling comics (obsessively I might add - I was crazy about comics from the age of about 5 up) and so handling comics is not a big deal. The first thought that goes through my head is not 'oh, this is an expensive comic book I shouldn't handle it'. The first thought that goes through my head is 'oh, this is a cool comics it's so neat to handle it'. Of course I'm aware of the values but handling comics for a life time has primed me to be careful instinctively. I don't have to think about it. Do accidents happen? Sure. But if you drop your slab on a hard floor you're just as likely to damage it (and maybe more so) than if it was sitting in a Mylar.
  8. You know, maybe even as recently as 15 years ago NOBODY would think this way. The entire point of the experience is to experience it. Collectors were always readers first, so the joy of reading, of touching, of smelling, of holding and handling was always more important than just seeing something at a distance. It's like owning a '59 Eldorado Biarritz or a Ferrari GTO but happy to just luck at it through a showroom. No way. The joy is in driving it. And that is something that most people from recent generations don't understand (I'm going to assume you're younger because of your thinking on collecting) unless they actually have a vested interest in something other than just the value. They will never understand the appeal of actually doing something rather than owning it because they purchase the history of something without actually living through it first. I was a Timely collector and owned many rare and expensive books when I collected. I cracked most of them out of the case to handle them. The only one book I was afraid to was because I wanted it to stay liquid in case I needed to sell it. My favorite books were Marvel Comics #1 (bought unslabbed) and a Motion Pictures Funnies Weekly #1 (bought slabbed that I cracked out). The MPFW #1 is probably the single rarest GA key of them all (1st Subby appearance predating Marvel #1) as there are only 10 or 11 existing copies. If I had the money to afford an Action #1 9.0, yes I would probably crack it out and handle it. Not every day, but wouldn't want to own it without flipping through the pages at least once in a while. Most old school serious collectors do handle their books from time to time. The fact that you can is really the point of it all. The point is not to look at pictures of your books. You CAN handle comics without damaging them. Collectors have been doing it for decades.
  9. Because some people like actually collecting the comic books themselves and not plastic cases with comics inside of them. There is no comparison to handling a decades old artifact compared to reading a cheap reprint.
  10. It all depends on the risk involved. Without seeing the book it's impossible to say.
  11. It's more likely a spine roll because all of the interior pages are fanned on the back cover. Fixing the spine roll would align the interior pages but yes, it would then mis-align the front cover. But miswrapped SA books are common.
  12. I don't want to open the discussion either but this is a fallacy much of the time. Books that are quickly pressed (ie. smashed) you can tell because they sit flat as a pancake. Properly pressed books are much more difficult to tell and many you have no way of knowing, especially if they are proper candidates to start with and done properly.
  13. Many have no clue it's happening. I told a LCS it was happening and they didn't realize it.
  14. While selling this time of year can be hit and miss (some buyers are distracted by the holidays, while others have record amounts of money to spend as Christmas bonuses) I think the real reason is the change in internet tax laws. Comiclink now charges taxes in 8 states (I'm not sure what Heritage and CC do), which reduces bidding prices as bidders factor in those taxes into their final bids. I think this is a fairly significant factor that will affect prices. And as governments continually look to recover lost revenue in the digital age I only see this trend increasing.
  15. In my experience grading notes can be all over the place. One book can have a laundry list of notes, another book next to nothing. The notes are not indicative of the over all appeal of the book nor are they exhaustive. It's up to the discretion of each grader as to what they write down. My theory is that newer graders write down more notes than more experienced graders.

  17. Tadano corporation and money laundering through Heritage auctions and then in a twist, someone from the DA's office stole the books from the evidence room as they were being held for trial. https://www.theverge.com/2015/7/22/8870089/texas-comic-book-heist-anthony-chiofalo-tadano
  18. The FF #1 won't be coming to market so I figure it would make some good eye candy since it won't be showing up anywhere else.
  19. I was trying to be a little more polite about it but yeah I wanna hear about it now, too. There is a lot of sensitive information in the story and I'd have to change the names and places to protect those involved. It's also a long story so I'm not going to rush it. Besides, the best part of a story is the anticipation...so I'm glad I have you guys on the hook.
