  1. This is the 3rd thread on the topic. So far, all you have is an internet rumor. According to a dealer I know well who uses them a lot, they have been planning to expand their business for some time now and have expanded. Nothing about firings.
  2. What's sad and amusing is the nameless, faceless armchair warriors who have no problem smearing reputations of honorable people with no facts. What was it that you do for a living again that makes you so knowledgeable?
  3. Alton, while the colors look nice are the browns representative of the book? The reason I ask is that some scanners can make tans and foxing look MUCH worse than the book looks in hand and I do see some browning on your book.
  4. Did we ever find out what jdog does for a living? Not that I know of.
  5. Well, I stepped out of the show yesterday for a break and who did I see pull up in their car but Michael Goldman. He was pretty tired (as usually happens when you have some heart trouble) but in decent spirits. I gave him a lift to the back door to the show in my car (so he didn't have to walk it, if you're not familiar you get pretty tired after a couple of steps when dealing with hear trouble) and he got onto to working at the show. I came home this evening so i have no idea whether he was there or not today.
  6. There were several shows on this weekend. Detroit Motor City show being the biggest and it would definitely draw people from a relatively large radius. I went to Motor City (3 hour drive). I didn't even realize there was a show on in Buffalo (1.5 hour drive).
  7. Yeah, but this thread was started first. So you're doing it wrong. But I do blame the OP for the vague thread title. The dodo bird title could apply to anything, including the demise of the once top-of-the-line greggy9000
  8. I'm not sure that's a positive accomplishment but then I don't play video games, soooo....
  9. We live in a society where it's too expensive to enforce the laws that protect Joe Public. Fraud happens on a regular basis, and even if you connect all of the dots for law enforcement, how is it that they never really do anything about it when that is their entire job? How many dealer stories have we heard where comics are stolen, charges are pressed and nothing really happens to the thief? It's a sad day in the world when punishment for thieves is too difficult.
  10. Darrell is long retired. Spoke to him a couple of years ago, the last time I was in Eugene. Is he still selling his stuff?
  11. Just heard from a dealer who uses them a lot. He said that they have expanded and moved into a new location. They've also hired more employees. Apparently they are doing quite well from what he told me.
  12. We have boardies in that neck of the woods. @Senormac I sent a text to some people I know in that neck of the woods as well.
  13. I spoke to Mike's mom. She didn't say it was a heart attack but that he did have chest pain. He went to the hospital for testing yesterday and might be at the show tomorrow. How likely that is, I don't know. His show has been one of my favorite shows of the year and he always treated me respectfully even when I was an up-and-coming nothing. Wish the best for Mike.
  14. It always comes down to the amount of resto and type of resto vs. the price. Not all restored books are the same, even if the CGC label says the exact same thing on it between two books.
  15. No they won't. If there is value in the book educated flippers will bid.
  16. Yes, you try and reverse engineer the resto to figure out what it would grade out as unrestored. Tough to do though, when the book is in the slab.
  17. I don't get the reference. Strangely enough my story happened VERY close to you.
  18. That's how I always played. It's a long, slow, boring game.
  19. Someone just asked this question on social media: Why isn't the first appearance of Red Goblin skyrocketing like Weapon H or Gwenom? I can only shake my head and wonder why. You know something's up when noobs are expecting a meteoric rise in value. Wow.
  20. Do tell I'll share the details one day. It involved a private investigator who used to be a decorated FBI agent, stakeouts, meetings in coffee shops off the expressway to share file information just like you'd see in a movie, tagging and following a suspect who turned out to be a scam artist who we think ended up being in a witness protection program and who was looking for a sucker to raise some quick cash and disappear again. It was a hell of a ride over New Years a few years ago.
  21. Why would Heritage want to acquire them?
  22. I've seen dirt on 9.2 and 9.4 books with almost no defects to speak about so no way just removing dirt can increase a 5.0 to a 5.5 There are so many defects allowed in the mid grades that the dirt accumulation (and we're talking 'normal' accumulation from stacking and improper storage) would be the least of your concerns. I didn't say it couldn't. It 'can' but it depends on the rest of the book and the relative grade of the book otherwise. It will only really affect the grade greatly in the highest grades (9.4+) in my experience. Once you get into lower grades there are many other things that take prominence and affect the grade and dirt, while still factored into the grade (just as ALL defects are) is not as big a deal as say, a tear or a crease or a popped staple or color loss.
  23. I did mean counterfeit. Thanks! I don't understand how you mean it would be a colossal waste of time. Do the Meyers books recreate dot patterns? If you're going to counterfeit million dollar books it's the only way it's going to happen. When you say recreating separations, do you mean the 4 plates?
