  1. Using this timeline and according to your PM in the spoiler tag, at 5:46 he already knew that newsstand copies were tough to find. He said it himself in the PM. If he knew that they were tough to find, then he was able to differentiate between them before the book was no longer available. Also, I have personally passed on deals on this chat forum (both publicly and privately) because someone else wanted the book, or because someone realized I was buying it too cheap and it was someone who I did a lot of business with and didn't mind leaving the extra coin in the seller's pocket. I've also passed on purchases so that others can make money on them. It happens. Is there any proof that there wasn't another buyer or is everyone just assuming it was a lie? From what I'm reading, right now both outcomes are possible.
  2. That's sad. It's sad that people didn't notice them? The only guy I'd recognize is Miles who has broken through into superstar status. The rest are B-list actors and I wouldn't recognize them from any other attendant.
  3. Sure but the supporting cast was good, as was the story, as were the twists and turns, as were the stunts. It was a good movie. I liked all those stinkers.
  4. No, it was not. By the rest of your post you're clearly referring to the 2005 version, not the (actually low-budget) Corman version. The 2005 FF film had a budget of $100 million, which was close to the $110 million budget of X-Men 2 two years earlier. Not trying to defend that movie by any stretch, but low-budget? Relatively speaking it was low compared to the $200-300MIL budgets now. And CGI was rough in those days. Although movies like Alien, Blade Runner and Star Wars still managed to look good on the screen pre CGI, so there really is no excuse. It all comes down to the creator's juices flowing.
  5. If GOTG can be one of the greatest super-hero films ever made, FF -- done correctly -- can be an outstanding franchise. Yup. GOTG comics were used for bird cage liner. Nobody cared about them in the grand scheme, and yet they managed to make a blockbuster out of the film. You can literally make a good film out of anything. If you're not Fox or Sony these days.
  6. MI: 5 has a 93% rating on RT. We saw it last weekend and I think it might be the best of the franchise. It's a home run movie. And it looked it from the very 1st trailer.
  7. Not everyone that thought FF was going to tank mocked Ben Aflleck or Suicide Squad. I'm pretty sure I said that I thought Affleck would make a good movie (because he always does) and I was unsure of SS because I didn't have a lot of familiarity with the source material. I'm still not sold on SS but it does look like it could be good in a 'Point Break' sort of way but I'm betting that just the cast is going to pull numbers and make up for any deficiencies in story. And I guess I'm going to be way off on my 65-70% RT prediction for FF (2015)
  8. It's highly possible that the ones breaking the embargo are doing so because they want word to get out. So is it considered negative if I call the movie a stinker now that people have seen it and agree? I swear, I could just tell from early on that it wasn't going to be good. Call it my special talent. I'm pretty decent at telling apart a good movie from a bad one with just a little info.
  9. No, I got the point. You can personally point out what other can and can't post but they can't point out the same to you. That's the hypocritical thing that CG was talking about. As far as I can see, he addressed only facts about the movie (like actual numbers, projections and the embargo) and repeatedly stated his opinion on them. You on the other hand wanted him to stop talking because he was burning real estate. Meaning what he wanted to say wasn't as important as what you thought was important. Passive aggressive swipe that has nothing to do with this thread. But that is exactly the way to have a proper discussion. You address each point individually rather than lump them all together. Another passive aggressive swipe that has nothing to do with either the points or the conversation as a whole.
  10. The same old story from the same cast of characters. What cast of characters? I didn't say you should or shouldn't. I just thought it was funny that you made the comment that Chuck was burning board real estate when you often burn more than anyone else.
  11. The last discussion I had on this movie was with Gatsby over what we thought the movie would do in domestic and foreign grosses. He said his thoughts on it based upon whatever ideas he has and I said mine We went back and forth. How is that beating a dead horse? Bausch's posted more than anyone in this thread, why isn't THAT beating a dead horse. See how you've been manipulated? I shared my thoughts and Bosco has convinced you I'm aggressive and taking over the thread and forcing people to only see things from my view. It's silly. I'm entitled to share my thoughts as much as anyone. Yup. And there's an antidote to people who think someone is "taking over a thread"...ignore them, and then continue chatting with others as you desire. No one can "take over" anything unless other people let them. All this sturm und drang about how and what other people post...it's quite wacky. The 'burning board real estate' comment was ridiculous because nobody burns more board real estate than Bosco now. Personally, I think the all movie threadss are a bit silly at times as there is literally more speculation in them than the movies warrant. Or the comics themselves. Oh, and I think FF is going to be a stinker.
  12. This is one of the reasons I chuckle so much at internet pendulum swing speculation based on little snippets. People routinely get up in arms about just a little pic or a phrase.
  13. All organizations do, but we're a little more emotionally attached to our treasures so that really puts a spin on things!
  14. greggy is not making a decent point, unless it's the one at the top of his head. I get slow periods throughout the day. There is no pattern to them that I can see. Yes, I'll have more fast pages but I rarely, if ever, have a visit to this forum without the forum slowing down for me numerous times.
  15. This is the exact envelope that I use, only I buy them locally and not from BU. I also have custom made, extremely thick, corrugated cardboard slats (not just your average box thickness but double that) that are just as large as the Mylar I ship my raw books in. I put a slat on either side of the comics I am shipping (I can generally ship 1-5 this way), then bag them tightly for moisture, then place in the envelope, tape the envelope and ship them this way. If you've bought 1-5 raw comics from me in the past 3 or 4 years, this is probably how you received them. I have only had one problem out of 1000's and that was when I was using a thinner version of the cardboard slat and an over zealous mailman decided to try to bend this nearly unbendable thing to make it fit a box. No system is perfect, but most systems with a little thought put into them will prevent 99% of your problems.
  16. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Thing's Thing This thread has taken quite a homoerotic turn. Hey now! I didn't say that above. Someone needs to learn how to quote. To make it less cumbersome I suggest the title of the upcoming film be: Fantastic Four: Rise of the Things. They don't have the stones to call it something like that. Get it? No stones?
  17. At this point if you don't want a spoiler you'd probably best stop reading movie threads because ALL they are is future information.

  19. Do it, cheaparse....then expense it Totally forgot about that! Also personal lists updated. Gotta love the drama. O and greggy bring back your squir l avatar. I miss it. Here's a new one FU manchu.
  20. These numbers are increasing over time. It's not that Despicable Me2 is a $1BIL movie in the traditional sense. It probably wouldn't be back in the days of Titanic, but nowadays there are more theaters, ticket prices are rising, world's population is growing and marketing is only getting better at targeting demographics. Where a $1BIL movie used to be a rare thing, it's going to be a common occurrence soon enough. And if Titanic did as well today as it did back then, it would probably be a $3-4BIL movie today. Just guessing but it would gross much more today than it did back then. Personally, I see it as a reflection of society.
  21. Actually, it appears the reviews from audiences are mixed. Some people love the movie and some people hate the movie. Honestly, that is just about what I would expect from an Adam Sandler movie. Either you like him and his humor or you don't. 59% of audiences so far liked it, which is about standard for an Adam Sandler movie. He must be doing something right; he keeps getting movies made every summer. Adam Sandler is a Hollywood mogul.
