  1. Saw it lats night and enjoyed it a lot. It wasn't as good as the best Marvel films but it was a solid 8.0 / 10 in my books. I agree with comix4fun, Epic Peach and Comicopolis that this movie ain't affecting any of the other future films. From the beginning we knew that this was more or less a transitional film introducing new technology and new characters into the greater scheme. Those future movies have already been planned for and set in stone in my opinion (look ma, no Marvel stocks! ) It was funny, decently paced and fun to watch. Paul Rudd has a following and he maintains his on screen inertia in this flick so some people will see it just because it's him. Others will see this flick because it ties into the Marvel Universe and they're going to want to remain in the loop. And I wouldn't underestimate this. There are still lots of people who haven't followed the MU on screen - people who get up after the movie is done and don't realize there are after movie Easter eggs coming. I think those people will eventually feel the need to view the movie to stay in the loop. Evangeline Lily was terrific, as was Douglas. One thing that might be a turn off is the ants themselves. Most people find bugs unattractive. Personally, I'm kind of happy they cleaned up the look of the ants so I didn't have to see them in vivid detail. All in all, I think this movie is going to do exactly what it's supposed to do. -------------------- One thing I didn't get, is could he control his density at will when shrunken? Did I miss something? Why was it that he could punch like a man in Ant Man size when he wanted to but didn't weight normal man weight when he ran around on some of these guys (like when he's running along the barrel of the gun on the trailer)? That didn't make sense to me.
  2. I use an 8250 but you do get glare the odd time, esp with GA books where the holder is thicker.
  3. He is the most memorable right now, though. Hush was the story arc that got me back into comics and it was big.
  4. I'm not sure what you mean by personal interests. Book speculation or am I missing some other angle? Personally, I don't care whether a movie does well or not (you can quote me on that). I'm just judging this movie by how I feel about the PR, the trailers and what I know about who is involved. It's just not 'pulling me in'. Having said that, Ant-Man is not pulling me in either but I'd see it anyway, only because I have more invested in Marvel's movies. And when I say invested, I'm not talking about money. I mean emotionally and time wise. I really dig the universe they are building and am looking forward to seeing it unfold. I don't have that same pull towards FF because I have nothing invested in it. It's a one off kind of like Super 8. But having said all that, unless I get the feeling it's a 2 out of 10, I'll probably see it, as I'm a lifelong fan of the FF.
  5. Wifey needs new shoes? I'll have you know that she is well stocked! Oh dear, so is mine. Just got her another pair in New Orleans. If you are EVER in NOLA you have to see the Italy Direct Clothing store on Tchoupitoulas. It's pretty amazing. She gets something every time she goes down.
  6. There's a reason for that. Marvel has been knocking it out of the park. In the beginning people were up in arms about the changes Marvel made. Fans were 'tearing their garments' in protest. Marvel has won people's trust but putting together a cohesive universe with a strong vision. Fox is hit and miss and people are overly critical of characters they have an emotional attachment with when they don't trust the owners of the franchise. Fox has had a few hits and a few misses.
  7. GOTG was brilliant in that regard. It removed the 'comic geek stigma' from movies that Iron Man started to do and it opened the door to a whole new audience that never would have stepped into a theater to see a Marvel movie. I think we are looking at the forming and cementing of what could potentially be one of the largest corporations of our time. They're literally producing billion dollar movie after billion dollar movie with nothing but gravy in sight. It's pretty amazing to be at the forefront of it and see it unfold.
  8. Oops, sorry. Was looking for Debbie Does Dallas but was on the wrong website.
  9. Are you able to track search activity? Yes Roy, they are on to your porn searches. Damn.
  10. Some people (like me) have a knack for picking 'em before they get out of the gate.
  11. You do realize that when I initially quoted 9.8 and his 'decent' comment yesterday I qualified it with 'If this is true', right? Nobody offered a rebuttal so I just assumed it was true. But I still think the movie is going to be a stinker, or barely a pass.
  12. The Thing was one of my favorite characters to draw when I was growing up.
  13. Fox called the movie 'decent'. Decent. And I think the 'Thing without shorts' thing is just guy talk...much like Dr. Manhattan showing his full shlong during the Watchmen movie. I thought it was fine. I'm going to guess it gets 65-70% on rotten tomatoes based on the trailers I've seen. Let's see how far off I am in a few weeks.
  14. The Thing spoke in this trailer and he didn't have a gravely voice. He just had the actors regular voice. It didn't seem to fit. The guys body gets turned to living stone, how can he have the same regular voice? I never noticed The Thing's voice was gravely when I read the FF comics. It always was for me. Lifelong FF fan.
  15. My thoughts exactly. Actually cringed at some of the circa 1990 action movie dialogue. "This is our chance to make a difference!" "We do it our way!" "What if we say no?" "Say yes."
  16. That's exactly what happened to me. He read PMs and didn't reply until I told him I was going to nominate him on the PL. Seems to be a serial offender.
  17. Was there a nomination that I missed? I was going to nominate him for the Probation List a few months ago because he backed out of a sale he had agreed to complete in the $2000 range. I forgave him because he cited health problems. Seems to be a pattern here?
  18. If it's not a director that I will follow blindly (like Ridley Scott or Christopher Nolan) then I will look at 3 things before getting a first impression - title of the movie, who the actors are, movie poster / DVD cover, etc. appearance. Those 3 things quickly help me decide whether the movie is a stinker, might be a stinker, could go either way or is worth seeing. Then, I watch a trailer and based my opinion on that. I'm not a magic man but I seem to have a pretty good gut for plucking a winner or a stinker.
  19. For this movie to go Supernova after ho-hum trailers and mediocre interest it would have to be stunning, thrilling and awesome. It won't be. I have a reasonably good movie gut and while I don't see this one as having stinker written all over it like Ghost Rider and the last ASM movie did, I just don't think it's going to be anything special. I really think Fox missed the boat here by throwing too much into the mix - changing the story line, changing the characters, changing origins, changing the logo (I can't stand the new square logo), the film has no real sense of identity and that is exactly how the last ASM movie felt to me. It feels like they're trying too hard to capture a wide audience...mc I say it barely succeeds on this soil. Might do better in Asia where people are not as familiar with the source material etc. but it isn't going to be anywhere near blockbuster material. Hey, if I'm wrong I'll admit it.
