  1. I remember back in the mid-70s, I sent in one of those ads from the backs of magazines where they'd send you a model every month (for a fee) until you cancelled. I remember the first model I received was some Lunar Landing thing...pretty cool. Then my mom got the first bill. She called them up and said something like, "He's only 12!", plus some more stuff that's not for the ears of children. Then she turned her attention towards me... The modeling bug bit me though, kinda. By the time I got to high school, I had a fairly large fleet of model rockets. Mostly Centuri, plus a few Estes.
  2. According to @Jennifer F. here "Every book that leaves our office does go through quality control. "
  3. How many comics have Subby in red shorts? You have 3.
  4. Holy cow! That long for a DD#1? What tier did you use?
  5. True that. (Your last sentence) One has to wonder, if it's factual that every comic is checked, why are all of these things happening?
  6. It's totally up to you of course, but I never let CGC do what I can do myself. There's a few advantages to this... - you'll know for a fact, whether the book suffered any damage when it was removed from the slab. - shipping is cheaper. - don't quote me on this, but CGC may charge you if you have them remove it (ask @Jennifer F. to be sure, but it seems like CGC doesn't miss any opportunity to make a buck)
  7. I'm not sure she meets the physical requirements to work at Hooters.
  8. All of these were Ebay purchases. Struck out with the TOS, happy with the outcomes on the rest.
  9. +1 I've bought from him a couple of times. Mike is one of the good guys.
  10. Didn't CGC have some scheme going on over at Ebay where, for a fee, they'd look at the picture of the comic being auctioned and give their opinion of the grade - did they come to their senses and stop?
  11. It must work big time if it's lasted all this time, not to mention every single publisher does it.
  12. "So, is the value based on when CGC receives it or once it is graded?" This is the question that needs a direct answer. With the TATs being as long as they are, the FMV can change drastically between the date of submission and the date of grading.
  13. Did you have to write EX or WT on the sides of the box?
  14. Just received a batch of 7 silver-age. Six of them have "light spine stress lines to cover". Word for word. It's probably a good thing I'm not a cynical person. Or am I?
  15. I know it's not realistic, but wouldn't it be kind of cool if we could take a virtual tour of the process in work?
  16. You'd think (and I would too) that every stage of the grading/encapsulation process has cameras.
  17. Stopped in the early 80s - marriage and mortgage. As far as I'm concerned, those 2 'M' words are evil! When my son turned 18, I became rich (not really, but the Child Support came to an end) and went crazy with the comic buying.
