  1. In a way, I'm kind of jealous of 'em. When I discovered The FF in the early 70s, I was a teeny bopper. Now I'm a couple years shy of 60, and they haven't seemed to age that much. I do remember Johnny going to college back in the 60s. Has he even graduated yet?
  2. Happy Birthday you guys! I can never thank you enough. If you hadn't been there when I was a kid, the path I took in life probably would've been heavily influenced by hordes of evil high school girls. Fortunately, whenever any girl gazed upon the Fantastic Four awesomeness adorning my walls, they all ran away.
  3. I'm sorry, but I have to disagree. For some, the slab's condition may not factor into the decision to buy or not. For others, however, it's a big part of that decision. What we (buyers/sellers) have to remember is that there are 2 kinds of collectors we're generally dealing with here ... comic collectors and comics-in-a-slab collectors. For those latter collectors, the condition of the slab is very important. This might sound weird to some people, but I'm a member of both collecting groups. There are titles that I collect all raw, but there are also titles that I prefer to have all slabbed ... and those slabs must be, to quote CGC, "crystal-clear" and "ideal for visual display". I know what I like, and I know what I don't like ... and I'm not a fan of spending money on something that I don't like. I've never sent or asked for a partial refund. I feel like if you ask for a partial refund, you're 'settling'. If you're not happy with your purchase, you should return it. Asking for a partial refund is like saying, "I wouldn't have bought this if I had known about ____, but if you throw me a few bucks I'll settle and keep it." I will generally ask about the slab, itself, before spending my money. If I'm told that there are no smudges, for example, and when I receive it, it's covered in smudges, it gets returned in a heartbeat. If I neglect to ask questions, and it arrives covered in smudges, I keep it ... my fault for not asking. I agree with you about the difficulty you have when scanning some of these slabs. All the more reason to ask questions, I feel. All this said, of course you have the right to your opinion and the way you run your business. I just felt the need to point out that others have a differing opinion, and that to some, the condition of the case is not "pathetic".
  4. I'd like to make a couple of points here. I never post here, but I like to read these threads ... kinda like being a rubbernecker. Plus, I'm watching a rerun of the 2016 US Open (go DJ!) and I'm really bored. Point #1 - I ran a sales thread a couple of years ago. For some reason, PP was giving me fits because they wouldn't let me accept payments, and true to their typical selves, they couldn't/refused to tell me why. I ended up sending people their books first and then they would send me a check. That was the last sales thread I ran. My point is, even though my problems were different than the problems @Bfairb experienced in his thread, problems are problems. They can lead to a lot of confusion and are VERY frustrating. And I wouldn't blame him one bit if he decided to say "Screw it. Nobody gets nothing. I'm done." Point #2 - Like I said, I like to read these threads. In previous threads, people, many people (including the keeper/updater of the PL) have stated something like "You've been refunded, so you're 'whole'. Thus, there is no justification to put ____ on the PL." Of course, it's entirely possible that the rules/reasons for being put on the PL have changed and I just didn't get the memo.
  5. I think some kind of compensation (grading fee reimbursement) is deserved here.
  6. We get daily UPS drop-offs at my work. The driver is a big time card collector. I brag about my comic collection & he brags about his card collection. Sometimes we trade sob stories...he sold his Mahomes rookie card for $2,000 a few years ago. Epic fail!
  7. It all depends on how the book was described... "this book is x" = seller's responsibility "this book is a CGC x" = not seller's responsibility
  8. Nothing to worry about. They probably just accidentally destroyed your books and are erasing any evidence of your submission.
  9. I was just sipping my coffee and looking thru Ebay. Came across this listing. " NOTE: Aquaman #56 and Sub-Mariner #72 is the infamous hidden DC/Marvel crossover! Writer Steve Skeates, unbeknownst to the editorial staffs of Marvel and DC, creates the very first intercompany crossover between the Big Two. Aquaman battles a creature that at the end of the issue explodes in outer space. A few years later, the very same creature emerges in the Marvel Universe from an explosion in outer space. This has to be one of the most underestimated issues." Is this true? I have never heard/read anything about it.
  10. Personal experience... MCS: Comics are shipped very fast Shipping is low-cost, but books are packed very well (I was surprised at this). I have no experience selling there. CL: Hit or Miss when talking about shipping time. In my experience, however, it's usually slow. Sometimes VERY. Comics are packed very well. All the fees are hard to swallow at times. You said you don't care about the commission fee, but there are more. When buying, I like that CL has a much better 'line up' of comics...more choices. When selling, be prepared to wait 1+ months for your check. Example: if the auction gets over mid-July (the AUCTION, not your particular book), I'd get my check early September.
  11. Include the phrase for a fee between 'it' and 'and'.
  12. The Post-It note sounds like a good idea. I've heard that any papers included with your submission are removed before they get to the graders. I must admit, however, I write the following on each submission form..."Please do your best to eliminate any newton rings or scuffs." I figure even if it has a 1% chance of doing any good, it's worth it.
  13. Take it out yourself. It's easy and it'll save you money.
  14. I like it. It makes me bid more.
  15. Thanks for the link. Very informative. One observation... I was always under the impression that the Friday before a convention doesn't count towards the TATs. But Matt says that no graders attend unless they're doing onsite grading. For the shows that don't do onsite grading, he said that he goes (and possibly Shawn), but that's it. All the other graders are still back at CGC doing their thing. Maybe the 'those Fridays don't count' thing changed a while back & I just didn't get the memo.
  16. The crossover option appears when filling out the online submission form. Out of curiosity, I filled out the first couple of pages twice. Once using the crossover option, once using regular modern grading. I used the same comic (FF #300) for both. The crossover option was more expensive than modern grading ... $22 vs $20
  17. Wouldn't it be great if they actually outlined their procedures (for this and other things)?
  18. I remember CAK used to do this, but I've never come across another seller/dealer who would do it.
  19. My opinion... There isn't some CGC god, who sits upon some throne declaring what must be & what you must do. Call them back and get some answers. Demand that they explain EXACTLY why they are taking more money from you.
  20. Agree. Although, for some reason, CGC has not commented on this common defect.
