Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...

I'm just going to throw this out there. Special Marvel Edition #15 has done nothing price-wise in 30 years. Is there any chance Netflix or Disney does a Master of Kung-Fu redux? It's a longshot but Jackie Chan is out of work. I don't think this book could get any cheaper and its a possible 5-10 bagger if something were to happen. I don't think this is hoard material, but believe a 9.6 can be had for under $200? There is absolute modern variant drek selling for as much if not more. Little downside, lotsa upside. Just sayin'......... -

You always have to do some due dilligence. Be your own advocate. No one will protect your own interests more than yourself. That said, IH 181 & MP 4 & 7 aside, I think you could look long and hard and still not find a hotter book than ASM 194 right now. -

Neal Adams only did the cover, not the interior. Jack Kirby was the penciller for the story. Exactly. That's why you throw the it has the better cover argument out the window. -

Fixed Exactly. Hard to call it a cameo if the supposed cameo appearance doesn't look anything like the guy, right? It's very htf in high grade, and I love the cover, but if what's inside the cover matters at all, there really isn't a whole lot to work with here. -

Except War Machine, Ant Man, Venom, and even Cable all appeared in costume 2nd and those are the money books right? Not true for Ant-Man. For some reason, TTA#27 is erroneously listed as the first appearance of Ant-Man even though it's Hank Pym in street clothes. He becomes Ant-Man in TTA#35 and it's listed as Ant-Man's 2nd appearance... Shouldn't Avengers #59 be the 2nd appearance of Yellowjacket then? Yet the cover of TTA #35 says "The Return of the Ant-Man", if he's "returning" he'd have to been there once before right? not this argument again...forget I said anything... It's not an argument. The market has settled the issue. Actually, it IS an argument. Just like Hulk 180 vs 181 is an argument. Just like FF 67 and Thor 165 vs MP1 is an argument. Jimmy Olsen and Forever People 1....just because TTA 27 is the more expensive book doesn't erase the fact that it's arguable. Just for the record, JO 134 is a rarer book than FP 1, but it barely, and I mean by the skin of its teeth, qualifies as even a cameo. One of the weakest cameos in the history of comics......period. Darkseid is Kirby's baby, not Neal Adams'. -

Boy did DC miss the boat on that one. The Animal Man keys are half as much as they were 25 years ago. He was an adamantium skeleton away from being great! -

It's borderline BA/CA, but look how much Spectacular Spidey #64 has dried up on ebay. Someone might be hoarding that one. I always thought it was a bit underappreciated. Cloak & Dagger were big time back in the 80's. -

You make a great point but that's a silver age book. I think these are BA examples due to the nature of the thread. The 54/60 debate has always interested me. -

Slight correction...I didn't say #299 would be considered a "full appearance", because it's not. It would be, however, more important if not for #298. Sorry, bud. Didn't mean to speak for ya. I have a hard time not calling 299 a 1st full. If we are talking in real estate terms, Venom takes up more of it than Rhodes in IM 118 and Gamora in ST 180 combined. -

Exactly, it's people hoarding 181 I disagree with. Nothing wrong with hoarding and speculation. I'm in the process of hoarding Green Lantern 87 and Strange Tales 126 right now. I prefer to load up on books that I like versus buying complete runs. -

Man that's close. I'm not sure that passes the 299 test, but I'm not sure that's a cameo either. I'd say that Iron Man 118 clearly has no business being a full appearance. Like RMA said, if that 299 weren't sandwiched between two monsters that might be considered a full appearance. Disputing the might of ASM 300 would be a fools errand though. If I had to make a call Id reluctantly say yes, that ST 180 probably qualifies as the first full. -

Add Firestorm #1 and Nova #1 to the list. If you sell on ebay and want to steer traffic to all of your other books, throw up a mid grade ASM #194 for <$100. You will get 60-80 views and 10 watchers within 24 hours. -

I see. We have gone from: to: to: So, in the span of those three posts, by you, you went from "NONE of the Alpha Flight team members are talking (which isn't true), fighting as a team (also not true), or part of story (also not true), the appearance is just one panel of each team member (also not true), and they only "clearly" appear on page 2 (also not true), to "ok, but only Shaman and Sasquatch are active in the issue (also not true), to "ok but Northstar and Aurora don't clearly appear (also not true...their costumes make it blatantly obvious as to precisely who they are.)" And you ask how others "misread what you type"...? I think the real answer is that you didn't know what you meant, because you hadn't closely paid attention to the issue, and were caught making things up you didn't know about. You still haven't answered any of my concerns, like "why is talking so important in determining what is, and is not, a cameo appearance" and what does a "single page appearance" mean as it relates to Gamora. You're never going to find "the exact same type of cameo" as Gamora, because every single comic book is unique. You can only find examples that are similar. I gave you the benefit of the doubt not once, but twice. You can't just make stuff up without doing proper research and not expect someone to call you on it. It's nothing personal, but this is the big leagues,. You need to know your stuff around here. By all means, if anyone else reads what you wrote differently from what I'm reading, I'd be happy to listen to their explanation as to how. I am glad to know you respect my honesty, however. I love the analysis on Asm 298-300, RMA. Bottom line. Does Gamora play a bigger role in #180 than Venom in #299? If not, no matter how many copies of ST 180 anyone here is hoarding, this would throw into doubt that 180 is the unquestioned first full appearance. I sold my only copy a few months back. If someone could post up the panels that would be great! -

Yes, I agree with this 100%. Some first appearance are not clear cut and it really is what the market decides. Examples include first Psylocke (Captain Britain 8 or NM Annual #2?) Havok ( Xmen 54 first Alex Summers or Xmen 58 First Havok in costume). It really has gotten bad the last two years. Personally I think its due to a new influx of collectors the past two years. A lot of long time collectors are scratching their/our heads on some of these books. I think there are a lot of speculators muddying the waters to draw attention to books they bought in bulk. -

Havok, Psylocke, Darkseid, Thanos etc, are what a lot of collectors in their 20's and 30's grew up on. Now that this group of collectors are making a little more money and getting into more expensive comics guess whose first appearances they are buying? The natural laws of supply and demand hold true with any comics, not just the scarcer, older books even though they are magnificent in their own right. -

They are similar, yes, but isn't the #180 only have a page? The 299 is a page and a half with Venom speaking on both pages. -

Biggest cameo not considered a full? What about ASM #299? I think that has to be as close to a first full without it being technically considered one that there is on the market. So that should be the litmus test. If Gamora appears more than Venom in 299, I'd be okay with it. If not, I believe a label change request is in order.
