  1. Tough little book, and I do mean little. It's digest-sized from 1944:
  2. I love the colors and staging on this one. In my mind, one cool book:
  3. A couple more man versus nature covers bearing the globe:
  4. Thank you. Digests, magazines - it doesn't matter. Anything with that alluring logo is always worth an extra glance.
  5. I can't tell other people how to spend their money, but jeez...
  6. Precisely. And a bit underappreciated at the moment. Congrats on your pick-up.
  7. The depth of your holdings (and the attendant condition) is beyond impressive. I am constantly amazed by your runs of scans.
  8. That, John Stark, is one articulate inaugural post that hits home on several key points. Bravo. My favorite line is the parenthetical and perfectly snide remark about the next generation and their tiny houses! Since this appears to be your singular post - but having recently edited - perhaps you post here under a pseudonym and let this stand as a sort of "drop the mic" moment??
  9. Some unfinished pages with what certainly looks like Steranko-esque machinery:
  10. Having thoroughly enjoyed the previous postings, I naturally went scouring for some old scans of pages long since misplaced. Growing up mostly in a vacuum before the ubiquitous social media of today, most of us that toiled in the 70's or 80's creating our own comics might surely have thought ourselves alone in mimicking our favorite adventures which leapt off the spinner racks into our hungry little hands. Lo and behold, that appears NOT the case! It's heartwarming to imagine the rest of you at whatever served as your drawing table back then churning out your own tales much like I was. Me? I'm not sure I ever finished a whole book - heck, as you can see from a few of the following examples, I didn't even finish many of my pages. Much like my hero Kirby worked, I just drew the darned page and somehow expected the dialogue (and story) would follow. I'm sure the keen-eyed among you will spot the obvious influences from the following examples, as I imagine the Adams or Perez or Byrne in some of the previous postings. Up first, ubiquitous 80's ninjas:
  11. Can a Defenders 10 and Marvel Mystery 12 really co-habitate on the same table?? The Action 200 looks like a winner, Joker's utility belt is peeking out, and those Timely/Atlas GGA stacks in the top row deserve a closer look!
  12. I'll consider myself in good company then! The Weird Mysteries 5 and Mister Mystery 12 were pretty close for me (as were several such match-ups), but I went with the eye injury gore as it was an odd-numbered date.
  13. So taken aback by the lingering leg they are that no one notices the skeleton watching from the window. You have a nice copy of a seldom-for-sale book. Real flat and clean with nice lustre.
  14. Some toughies here: top row, I've gotta go with the Earthman by a hair over the Vault simply for the cover (and my overall fondness for Avon one-shots); 2nd row, Mister Mystery; 3rd row, JIM; bottom row, pretty tough - flamethrower War a hot cover, sure but either of those Crime Does Not Pays would make a nice Christmas present. However, that over the top exploitation Harvey Hits is the winner for me. Hey, it's not just about the $$$$!
  15. With a scrumptious selection like this, I feel compelled to play my favorite game: top row, I'd take the Whiz hands down, though I remember fondly the Overstreet with that Katy cover; 2nd row, Thrilling edges out Atomic War and the great Cole cover; Tessie and Sparkler neck and neck, but I think GGA gets the nod tonight over the swas_____; and that beautiful Iger-shop Jungle all the way on the bottom row (I know the Centaur fans will scratch their head, and I don't even like that Cole cover - minority opinion, I know!).
  16. I'm totally bummed that I missed the show! I look forward to it every year. For some reason I had it in my head that it was in January or February. Perhaps they moved it up this year? I was at the Chicagoland Slot Machine and Advertising Show earlier that day and scored a few oddball comics, but I would definitely had made time for the con had I known.
  17. Recent pick-up from an antique dealer friend of mine. He bought them from the lady who bought them off the newsstand. I'll scan a few for the Dan DeCarlo thread when I have a little more time.
