  1. Did you collect in those fields once upon a time? In areas like antique cigar boxes, paperbacks and of course pulps, all things I’ve collected for some time, there seems no end in sight to the escalation of prices. I will add that in the case of pre-1950 cigar boxes, the Bay is littered with high-priced examples of boxes with truly suspect buy-it-now prices. It’s almost epidemic to ask unfounded and unrealistic sums. Boxes that used to be listed at $9.99 and maybe sell for that to say $25 are now listed at a BIN of say $59.99 or $249.99. I sometimes think I’m being pranked.
  2. Probably Carl Barks or Milton Caniff. If an hour was anywhere enough time, I’d want to figure out what percent of their uncanny storytelling abilities owed to intuition and natural talent, and how much owed to hard work (and in Caniff’s case, a thorough understanding of moviemaking and cinema).
  3. Very salient point. Sensible people would tend to agree on much, but there are a number of systemic barriers and wedges built into modern discourse that tend to herd people back to their camps. p.s. I don’t think those “wedges” evolved organically…
  4. That is a gorgeous guitar! I can neither play nor do I own any, but that is a real work of art. The palette is sublime.
  5. I agree: it's already affected the hobby in negative ways. Not every collecting field needs to be tainted by this hyper-commodification.
  6. I hate the logos on later issues, but those fiery babes sorta drew me in.
  7. It’s a toughie in that condition, but I think you’re mostly correct. Still, it’s his “don’t want to sell it price” until someone buys it. I’ve seen pockets of pullback on some of the pandemic bubble pricing, but the prices in other collecting areas keep accelerating.
