  1. No, it is NOT just you. Action 2 is my all time favorite cover from the entire run. It may be sacrilege, but I like it even better than any of the Superman covers.
  2. i tend to agree with @Buzzetta in his assessment that everyone else seems to care more about whether or not the seller is on the PL than the seller does. I personally would prefer not to do business with this seller. If others wish to do business with him, then that is their business and I respect their decision to do so. As for whether the seller should be removed from “the list”; I believe that should be left to the discretion of the offended party. If I were the offended buyer, however, I would consider removal from the list to be a bad precedent.

  4. Why would anyone want to imagine such a horrible thing. As for William, he is a great guy and awesome board member. As far as I know, he doesn’t collect duplicates, so I wouldn’t worry too much about his collection being a “black hole”.
  5. Harold, Since Ben is offering you ANY back cover, I think you should request a back cover from an Action 1. Good luck with the sale, Ben. Great books from a great boardie.
  6. I am thinking of starting a contest / give away. My thought is I offer to give away $1,000. All someone needs to do to get the money is write me a short note as to why they deserve it AND pay a "small" entry fee (say $25). I then accept maybe 500 - 2,000 applications and pick one that I think really exemplifies why someone deserve the $1,000. The only thing that would make this plan better is if my best friend (or maybe a family member) just happened to write the "best" and "winning" note. I love it when a plan comes together.
  7. The back of the book or the girl?
  8. Sent Marc an offer on a book on Monday. Marc responded quickly and accepted offer. I sent payment that evening and by Friday i had the book in hand (via priority mail). Great to work with and ships quickly.
  9. According to today's newsletter from Chuck, the bad guy has been caught. He wrote..... I will begin today's newsletter with the wonderful news that the police believe that they have arrested the person who broke into our store three weeks ago. They are certain enough that he is the culprit that the DA has already charged him with the crime, and he has bailed out of jail. I have a few further cogent details that I cannot yet reveal, but suffice it to say that all of us here at Mile High Comics are all quite happy
  10. I am not sure there is any need for further discussion on this point, however, after reading through this, I thought I would add my 2 cents... First let me say that I have nothing against either the buyer or seller in this transaction. I am completely neutral in this matter. 1) There is the statement, "I lost the book". Some say that this is all the seller has to say and that the deal is off with no consequences to either party. My question is, what if after Brock had dropped the "take it" (and before he had paid), had discovered the book had suddenly lost favor and dropped in value (maybe a previously unknown hoard of this issue suddenly comes to market). In this scenario, what if Brock said, "I lost my wallet, and thus the deal is off". Would anyone be ok with that? 2) I read someone say that Brock was not looking for this book for his personal collection, but to "make money". Does this matter? I hate when someone buys a book on the board and then jacks the price up and resells it on the board 2 weeks later, however, my dislike for this type of transaction, does not change the fact that a deal, once made, should be honored. 3) There is the valid concern that if the seller truly cannot find the book, that there would be no way for him to ever come off the PL. I though Brock was very reasonable in asking not for any kind of financial compensation (beyond his refund), but simply asked for photos of the book to be reposted in order for the "seller" to be removed from the list. This seems reasonable to me (although I understand how the "seller" claims to have deleted the photos. 4) I have never sold anything on these boards, however, it seems to me that if I was to sell something, that I would be darn sure I knew where the book was. Maybe I am strange that way. With all this being said, I am going to try and put myself in the position of the seller for a moment (walk in his shoes), and ask myself what I would do if I were him. I am NOT saying the "seller" should do this, but rather what I believe I would do to "make things right". Given this is a rather common book, I would simply offer the "buyer" the option of having me buy the book (in the same grade) from another venue and sell that copy to the "buyer" at the originally agreed upon price. Would this cost me something? Yes! Would it be worth it to me to keep my word? YES! A quick search reveals that Metropolis has a copy of this exact book in the same CGC assigned grade (5.0). My guess is that Brock would not accept this offer, but would know (without a doubt) that I was willing to do whatever I could to "make things right". In the end, I understand that for many on the boards, these comics are a business and not simply a hobby (as they are for me). For many, even though they are simply a hobby, the perceived "value" of their collection is everything. When all is said and done, however, a man (or woman) is only as good as their word and their reputation. No comics in the world is worth me breaking my word, and if I truly lost the book, I believe I would have done whatever was in my power to make the situation right (and simply refunding the money, does not make it right). Maybe I am just too old fashion, but I still believe a hand shake is a deal and a man's word is his bond.
  11. My all time favorite Action cover. Great book! Congrats on picking up the CC one last night.
  12. Thanks for the link. I did not know that someone had already started a thread on this.
  13. I received an email from Chuck today. It started like this... Our Memorial Day weekend was filled with drama, but not in a good way. At approximately 5 AM on Sunday morning we had someone break in through the rear door of Jason St. He then proceeded to walk our front area of the store, where we have five 6' tall cases filled with our most significant back issues. He smashed the doors off three of those cases, and then chose 14 comics to steal, which had a net retail value of $42,000+. Obviously my FIRST "question" is in relation to that final sentence. Is that "net retail value of $42,000+" a "Mile High retail value" or an "actual FMV retail value"? My second "question" is really just an "observation". It seems to me, I recall Chuck sending me an email back in May 2017, telling of how 70 massive skylights had "simultaneously shattered" at his "Mega-Store", during a hail storm, causing estimated damages in excess of $100,000. Seems May is not a good month for Chuck OR his insurance company!!!!!!!!!! On a serious note, I do hope that they catch whoever broke into Chuck's store and stole his books.
  14. Thank you!!!! You just saved me $1650. This thing is really cool.
  15. The CBM was an awesome magazine and full of interesting reading. Highly recommend!
