I'm in. Middle of the pack probably best case scenario. -
Strange...this book showed up twice under completed sales, the first for $8,100 on June 12 and then again for $4,208 on June 26. Now listed as a BIN for $6,500. Maybe a non-payer the first time but the $4,208 is a head scratcher. Anyway, don't see too many Mark Jewelers in this issue. I do remember when I started my first subscription in 1977 it was advertised as "All Titles Mailed Flat!" so the 1976-77 timeframe would have been when Marvel stopped folding them in half and started sending them in the mailers liked the one pictured.
-
I had subscriptions to several titles from 1977-1984 and can confirm they all came in mailers like this. Unfortunately I didn’t keep any of the mailers but I still have all the books. Brings back memories seeing one.

I am in for another finish in the bottom third of the field. -
Picked up these Bronze Age Spideys from a Craigslist ad. In looking at my existing 143 compared to the new one the blue/purple stood out but upon further review it’s just fading.

Clean and Press results
makeminemarvel replied to makeminemarvel's topic in Comic Book Grading and Restoration Issues
Yes the bottom pics are after. Not great pics but it is actually a little flatter. Just some serious water damage. Took a flyer and results were a little better than before. -
Found a local guy on Facebook advertising cleaning and pressing for 15 bucks. Went over to his house and checked out his work. He has a ASM run from 40 to 400. Beautiful books. I had recently purchased a low-grade ASM 59 with water damage and said what the heck. Here are some before and after pics. Don’t know why they show upside down.

Craigslist pick up. Definitely lower to mid grade. The 147 may be the worst condition comic I now own. 3 were missing MVS. But the price was right and ASM has always been my favorite. Hardly ever find anything on craigslist anymore but there’s a few here and there. -

What are you Reading now ..... other than comics ?
makeminemarvel replied to jimjum12's topic in Comics General
Just read The Road by Cormac McCarthy. A story about a man and his son making their way through a post-apocalyptic world. Brutal imagery and savagery. My first McCarthy book and might try some others. -
You're on a roll John. Nice finds.

I had a subscription also but the copies I got that way were after Marvel started mailing them flat. I guess I bought the first few off the rack and liked it enough to get a subscription. I am too old to remember now! Still have them though. 1-25. Didn’t know or remember that the title continued and fantastic four. I’ll have to look and see if I have those FF issues.

Dave Hornish blogs on all things Topps and I don't think this has been posted. Probably way more info than all but a few are interested in: The Topps Archives: 1975 Topps Comic Book Heroes
