And she gave you the link to do that :makepoint:

I bed beg to differ.  She said that link is where to FIND facilitators, which I did not ask.    I already know where to find them.  As I stated I've already contacted a few to no avail. My question was "Where do I post that I'm looking for a facilitator who will be attending a specific event?"

  2. I believe Chris Evans sig on a Captain America book would definitely add value, but maybe not to a Captain America comic book collector.  I think at the Height of Adam West's career, if you would say the top was while doing batman, his sig would have been worthless.  I don't believe comics were big at all in the 60's, so his sig wouldn't have added much to an early batman book, just as a stan lee signature in the 60's would have been worthless.  Things are very different now.  Anyone have any thoughts on this?

  3. It's 3/16/22 and I'm looking for facilitators attending:

South Texas Comic Con on 4/22/22 (4 books)
Lake Como Comic Art Fest in ITALY on 5/13/22 (1 to 2 books)
Lawless Comic Con in Bristol, UK on 5/28/22 (1 book)

I've already tried the CGC facilitator list.  Contacted about 4 or 5 of them and no one responded, so know I just want to put it out there so whoever sees it can contact me.

    Thanks

So your plan is to have your sister sell your stuff on ebay?  What did she do to you?

Hahaha, it wasn't my plan, shes the one telling me if something happens she wants to know what they're worth so my parents don't get someone to take em all for 100 dollars

  5. This question is regarding 1 of my submissions for 10 magazine comic books.  The books were submitted on 4/8/2021 & according to the status they are now scheduled for grading.  There are 2 TMNT LAST RONIN books I wanted to take out of the submission to submit to the private signing due on 2/4/2022.  I was told after speaking with Celeste that this cant be done, but since CGC has been sitting on these books for 9 months, not allowing me the opportunity to submit them, I'd like to know if an exception can be made for these 2 books by someone higher up?

    Thanks

I am a collector, first and foremost. I buy books that I want, not because they are a good investment. As an example, I have no interest in AC #242 (first Brainiac) or AC #252 (first Supergirl). I have never been a big fan of Superman, so I would not spend money on those books, even if I got a good deal.

However, I would be a liar if I said I have no interest in the value of my collection. The main reason why is that I need to value my collection to determine how much insurance I need to cover a potential loss. It would be wrong to say I don't factor the value of my collection into the amount of my estate, just like it would be wrong to ignore the value of our house toward my estate.

I have mentioned before that I slab many of my most valuable comics (>= $500). My reason for this is threefold: 1) I like how they look in a slab, 2) I feel that a slab provides more protection than a mylar bag and backing board, and 3) I want to make it as easy as possible for my family to sell my collection when I pass on. Unfortunately, no one in my family has shown even a remote interest in comics.

I think that anyone that says that anyone who says that they have absolutely no interest in the value of their collection is probably not being 100% honest with themselves. I bought the books that I have in my collection because I wanted them, but it would be incorrect to say that I am not aware of the value of my collection.

My sister asked me about my books and what would happen to them if something happened to me. My parents getting their hands on them is out of the question.  They would sell them for $100 and think it was great.  I showed my sister what several of them are selling for on ebay and now she knows that my collection is not to be taken lightly.  I told her to put them up for auction and never buy now unless u know the value.  Never sell anything to a comic shop because they need to make money and will have no choice but to lowball you, not that they are trying to rip u off, but they have to turn a profit.  I told her seek out the collectors, that's where you'll get the most for them.

This is something we should all think about and plan for.

I agree with all of this.

I always said (to the one person who actually puts up with me talking about comics), that three fundamental drivers of the existing comic market were:

    1) The internet / eBay

    2) Slabbing

    3) the movies!

And I'm sure there are other drivers, but the modern comic market is a very different place than when I started collecting. Now, I was just a kid in the pre-ebay days.

So the comic market for me was looking at the wall books in my local comic shop and when I was old enough to drive I started going to local shows, occasionally going to bigger shows. But when eBay started, the game changed. It created access to books I had never seen before or only dreamed of owning.

  8. I started in 84 or 85'.  about 2011 I started grading my books after a friend and co-worker suggested I get my books graded.  I said, what's that? He turned me onto a whole new world.  I guess I've always been a collector, but I knew from the beginning that I wanted them to go up in value.  That's why I bagged and boarded them all after reading.  For me there's something about having a thing that's valuable.  I try to find multiple copies then keep the best and sell the rest.  I want hot rare books.  I guess I was an equal collector/investor who turned into a mostly investor/collector. sometimes I try to sell some things I've purchased, had signed and graded, to slim down my collection, but I just can't bring myself to sell them.

I called them about it for my sub as well and was told that mine was in shipping. Not sure how this is acceptable to the internal teams because all it does is make customers call in and question. #DoBetter

i heard their grading has slipped.  meaning books with high grades have been coming back with lower grades and it's happening more than usual. I'm afraid to call and ask about my books because I don't want to rush them into messing up my books.

CGC slabs are a young market. Like, isn't it kind of a fool's errand to think of selling before the population report comes out? Not saying a pop report would magically fix the value problem with CGC 8.5s, but we're kinda gauging the value of our slabs with a blind eye. I don't feel comfortable selling any of my slabs, a CGC 9 Marnie recently sold for $500 cdn... gross. Like, those cards are all 0.5 off from fetching an extra $400+, it's dumb enough to make me want to whip out the "revenge grading" argument. Given that the market values a CGC 9.5 as a potential PSA 10, a 9 is more realistically where it drops off. I feel like my 9 Marnie's could potentially snag a PSA 10 but you get trapped in it not being worth the $150 per card gamble.

For the record, my 48 card submission contained 0 8.5s. Fair amount of 9.5s relative to 9s, but none of my $$$ cards came back 9.5. In general, given that these are modern cards, I'll want to wait until the sets are out of print at the very least. The market is cold at the moment, we might see a spike during the celebrations release but I'm not expecting to sell anything for a while. Too many factors holding the market back

sometimes if u the first to put something up u can get a decent price for it

I have a feeling this thread is going to pop off; and I want no part in it.

    But what I will say to everyone responding to comments;
Remember not everyone grades for only profit. Everyone's situation is different. Some grade for profit, some collection, some profit & collection, some for fun, etc. So just remember your situation is not the same as anyone else's. Keep it civil peeps :D

I grade for all of the above.  If i have a feeling about something, I'll try to grab multiple copies, so I can sell some and keep one for myself to make up for what I spent, some i sell when they don't come back with the grade i expected and some i submit to test my skills (this is rare)

Also, I just re-read that you used padded mailers. That is an absolutely no.  You have to use boxes to ship comic books. Period. Hard stop.  I don't care what the marketers say, padded mailers are worse than shipping in a cereal box. Save the boxes that CGC ships in, bind the comics in the bags and boards well, put lots of impact-absorbing padding around them and then ship.

I see padded mailers being pushed on ebay as if that matters.  I tape books to cut up big screen tv boxes.  they are about the thickest cardboard u can use.  for them to get bent u have to actually bend them.  I'm surprised no one else uses them.  i'm the only one.  I grab them from apartment dumpsters.  best time to get them is Christmas.  I'm tapped out now, cant find them anywhere.  I actually go Christmas shopping for myself in dumpsters.  Found a remote control in a box once, sold it on ebay for about $36

Isn't the pin for a copy of passive aggressive?  At this point,  it's probably not worth the anger over 15 bucks... just don't buy from them anymore

Nope, the pins were for Monster Kill Squad 1 and Pyrate Queen 1.  They punched in the passive aggressive as the purchase, but I didn't purchase passive aggressive.  It's not the value of the books, but the value of the pins.  That was the sole purpose of going there. I will not buy from them ever again.

Nobody kept a couple hundred bucks.  That pin is garbage. There is lots of junk on eBay looking for suckers to buy it.

If all you care about is the money you could have gotten from some sucker on eBay I definitely don't feel as sorry for you as I did when I first saw you losing your mess over a piece of garbage.

First off, I don't give a S about yours or anybody else's sympathies.  I asked for information, suggestions, addresses and to blow things up.  I want everyone to know what this comic book store did.

As far as garbage, that's fine, it's your opinion and it may be garbage to you, but to others it's valuable.

And lastly, why would I pay hundreds of dollars for the pins on ebay when all I have to do is play the game to get the pins.  that's just stupid.

All I did was ask questions, but if u wanna be a smart A and start somethin then bring it on.  I'm here waiting.
