Just to be clear...CGC is defining Pic 2 and 4 as a "sketch".  Pic 1 and 3 as a "remarque".  There is a price difference between the 2.

A "sketch" is done on a blank...the pricing for that is 875.

The"remarque" is done on a regular comic cover and is 460.

When I first subbed these I was told any blank sketch cover was automatically 800.  Any regular cvr with a sketch request was 400.  Jim Lee had different rules for sketch covers...he wouldn't work on them years ago and would only do remarques on cvrs for 400.  And when he did start working on blank sketch covers he charged double...but would give you a bigger "sketch".  This is just my experience over the last 5 years.  This is still a great op with a quick turn around!  I've gotten a bunch from Jim Lee because I think it was worth it!  And every one of them is worth it to me.  As for price examples...Liefeld charges 400 for remarques.  Clayton Crain just finished his 3 weeks ago and his remarques were 300.  It's what the prices are today.

Pic 2 & 4 sketches,  I got that, but I figured a sketch to be 1 & 3 (minus the remarques), but now my understanding is that is a "detailed" sketch.  didn't realize there was a difference

I spoke to Albert Moy (Lee's Rep) over at TorpedoCon yesterday regarding a sketch cover commission. Depending on the sketch request. If it's something specific like a Homage or how the character is posed there's a good chance it will be rejected. Usually the request should be made simple for instance I just asked for a full sketch of Wolverine ($4-5k). But depending on your patience...sketches completed could take up to 2 years. And you'll have to pay upfront. Moy holds the money till Lee is done and receives the sketch. I couldn't do the profile sketch. I've seen too many and they all look the same.

Thanks much for reaching out to his rep to get the low down

Oh yea, I get that.  Who wants a sketch that looks like everyone else's.  So like me you'll also be passing on this opportunity also.  I had hoped it would look something like the batman 50 sketch cover, the one with batman and catwoman, but I see that wont be happening.  So that would be something like the a 2k sketch.  I had thought a sketch was a true sketch and not like a doodle.  There should b a name for each so theres no questions or confusion because one looks completely different from the other and I cant see how they r both called sketches

As to the number of sketches Jim would do...CGC had the Clayton Crain sketch op and signing 3 weeks ago.  The sketch op was suppose to be open for the first 10...10 was the cut off.  I'm hearing Crain did 79 sketches for that signing op.  That's how many order went through.  Back to Jim Lee sketch op...I know peeps that sent in books 2 years ago for private sketches at the same prices and are getting them back now.  It is tough to lock Jim down for the sketches so who knows when the next chance will be.

I wouldn't care about the 2 years myself, tough lock down or not,  it's the price point and what u get for it that's the issue.  It would b my first, so I really dont know what the prices r.  I have 2 minty blank action 1000s and knew exactly what I wanted on them, but if this is similar for what u will get from all the artists then I'm going to just stick with getting my books signed.  I'll keep my eyes open, but as it looks, I'll b passing if it's like this.

Here are a few of my Jim Lee sketches.  These will be the same you should expect.  My 2 cents...instead of using a blank sketch cvr, find a penciled sketch cover edition from DC...it'll look just as good as a blank and cost you a whole lot less.  But it seems like you do get more with a blank.  You will not be getting those really cool detailed sketches...those are 2000 and up from my exp.  It'll be a coin toss as to how big or small of a sketch you get.

    BWL 1.jpg

    Joker 1.jpg

    Robin 1.jpg

Pic 1 beautiful, pic 2 nice, but I'd expect more for 875.  What's the per hour break down, meaning how long does everyone think it takes to do a pic 2 sketch? Is that like 4 to 5k per hour? I cant do it

I agree, and I really wanted my own thing with what I wanted him to draw, but looking at that sample I dont believe it will look how I think it should look.  Not for 875 though.  I'd like to have something much more detailed.  I'm going to pass on this one.  I think I'll still send about 7 books for sigs.

Thanks for all of your inputs

for the amount you are paying, you're probably better looking for a piece already completed and paying a bit more but getting something you like

  8. Ok...I would love to have a Jim Lee sketch and now the opportunity has arisen through CGC for $875.  They have an example photo which doesn't look impressive at all.  It will be my first sketch, on a book, from anyone.  when I think of paying $875 for a sketch i want something sweet, not a something that looks like to too 2 minutes to do. Has anyone seen the example CGC has up?  Is it just me or should I expect something more than that example that costs $875.  I'd like to think i would get something a lot more that that.  Is this what I should expect or what?

Media mail exists to provide a low-cost shipping rate for the transport of educational materials. The regulation establishing the service requires that the printed matter be free of advertisements (except for "incidental announcements" of other books or audio recordings in a work of the same type). In part, this was to prevent advertisers from shipping pamphlets of promotional material under the guise of being legitimate educational content. The vast majority of comic books include advertisements, to the extent that USPS even clarified that they are not eligible under the media mail regulations. Yes, lots and lots of comic books get shipped successfully via media mail. It's a lottery you don't want to win. Postal regulations state that the USPS may open and inspect media mail at any time, and may refuse delivery of improper contents, or hold them for postage due. Postal inspectors aren't dumb. If you're getting (or sending) obvious comic book shipments at the same time as media mail packages, sooner or later, they're going to start inspecting your media mail.

Wish shipping costs were lower in general? Everyone does. Wish comics qualified as media material for the lower-cost shipping rate? So does everyone else who has material they want to ship that isn't eligible for the media rate.

It seems silly that people still complain about it. It's like speeding. It's nice to get to where you're going faster than you should be able to. But that's not what's permitted, and if you get caught, there's a cost to be paid. What sucks with misusing media mail is that the USPS often tries to collect that cost from the addressee rather than the shipper.

I'm just shocked I got caught.  My only complaint is why is media mail only for educational material.  Cant they make it to include comics up to, say 1 or 2 lbs.  So we cant hundreds of books for $5, but we can ship 10 to 15  50 cent books and not have to charge $7 -$10 to do it they're light weight comics not heavy books and mags.  So just limit the weight when shipping these.  More of us could sell the cheep stuff for low shipping costs, buyers would b more apt to buy when the shipping  price is low and the PO would make a killing.  Seems like a win win for everybody.  Why hasn't anyone capitalized on this.  Do I have to do everything myself

this is exactly what i was going to say. all the arguing in the world and citation of postal code doesnt matter a flip cause your local postmaster will do whatever they think is the rule and you arent gonna convince them otherwise...

EXACTLY.  IF UR GUY OR GIRL HAS A STICK UP THEIR YAHOO THEN IR SCREWED

Andrew the best answer is this:  it all depends on the particular postmaster.  People have argued this one for years but it all boils down to that-how your particular postmaster interprets the rule.  Thread over.

It all depends on who looks at it package.  At the PO I frequent, she never asks and questions, I just say media mail she says OK.  We talked to her today and she said she had no clue I couldnt mail comic books media mail.  I was like really.  Some post office employees act like its hurting them to take this comic book media mail package.  I tried to mail a sport card in a top loader at another post office and the lady said OH, THIS IS RIGID ITS GONNA COST MORE.  I WAS LIKE OMG.  I said never mind, she was shocked and said I don't wanna mail it, I said nope.  I just took it to my local lady, she took it, weighed it (under and ounce), and said thanks.  Sometimes all u have do is go to the other guy and do it right in front of the one that said no just to get their reaction.

I find it irritating when sellers send your book Media Mail when it could have been sent for close to the same price via First Class Mail. I was looking at the tracking, wondering why my package was lingering at each stop so long, so I took a look and found out it was sent Media Mail. 10 days shipping time for something that could have been here in 2-3 days.

2021 now.  Media mail for my returned package was $3.14.  First class mail it was $5.98.  Big difference when mailing cheap books

What crazy here is the double standard of the Post Office. They open Media Mail and make a big deal about it, however they treat Priority mail no better. I get books that are destroyed by them using their more expensive services. Spend your day making sure the Priority books are not being run over by trucks or dropped off the roof of ten story buildings prior to delivery.

I got a cgc book shipped in large usps box that was smashed, with pieces shaking around inside and a tire track on the smashed box. Yes, it was actually delivered.  I filed a claim with pics and said r u freaking kidding.  I got my money back.  I still keep the pics on my hard drive for nostalgia.

Has anyone experienced any issues with the post office in shipping back issues of comics and magazines with advertisements to customers via media mail?  I know the post office states no advertisements yet I regularly see books listed with shipping via media mail.  What if the advertisements are expired? Has anyone had the post office open envelopes up and audit the package and contents inside?

HELLO!  YES YES!  OH SNAP!I JUST GOT CAUGHT!

They just returned 3 50 cent turok dinosaur hunter books I sold. OMG!  For the first time they checked, now I have to pay $5.98 to ship them.  So I would've had to charge $5.98 to the buyer for 3 worthless books.

Can anyone tell me who would pay that much for 3 common books?  I'm tellin u man, there has to be a better way.  Can anyone tell me WHY the PO doesn't allow comic books or mags, but specifically comics to be shipped media mail? Is it a weight issue?  There has to be a better way, why hasn't the another shipper tried to capitalize on this niche?  If I raise my prices to post office first class then no one will ever buy.  If no one buys, then I dont ship, if I dont ship, the PO doesn't many money from me.  It just doesn't make any sense.  If they don't do something, just the taxi cab companies slept for 70 years and let uber and lyft take their business the same will happen to the post office if they dont wake the up.  There has to be a better way

I understand the enthusiasm, but there’s a lot of variables out there...

A whole lot of them and ones that r rarer than the 1:1000

I have been working on this forever! I know they had 154 lcs for sure for first wave! They said in a interview they got up to 200 stores so did they make the first wave of shipments? They also said they had to cut orders by 51%! People were complaining they didn't get a copy and they were on the pull list Bad Idea apologized and said that the people would get a copy but not a first print! Why Bad Idea is not telling us the print run is beyond me! But extremely low print run that for sure I can guess and say less than 5,000 my assumption is low of 2,500

I read an article that said they only fulfilled 51% of the order for all stores and the remaining order was substituted with the NOT FIRST PRINTs, this correct?  If so, wouldn't that make the NOT FIRST PRINTs rarer that the FIRST PRINTS?  If this is correct its amazing how one print is much more valuable than the other when they each have almost the same number of prints.  R people just not getting it?

The 1:1000 variant was only available during the pre order period.  U can't get one after the fact to get signed.  It won't exist

So ru saying the 1:1000 cannot b purchased right now on ebay or that all the 1:1000 made are only sold with the sigs?

1st issue sold about 620000 copies.  Which means there are only 620 copies of the signed cover 1:1000....  rarity has value my friend...  :baiting:   don't hate the player...  hate the game.  (thumbsu

Right now, but it's only rare until he does more signings as I'm positive he will.  Especially if a movie comes out.  He will definitely do appearances and signings to promote it and I doubt it'll cost 1k.  I'll have my rarer brzrkr books prepped and ready.

Dude take it easy.  For you it may be asinine to spend 2k on a chance, but for some its no different then buying stock!!!! And an FYI the average sell price on EBAY for BRZKR keanu sig copy went for about 3K, so OP and me are already ahead of the game, for now...  Just because you wouldn't do it for whatever reason as well as the fact that for some 2k is not a big chance, doesnt make it right for you to step on someone's neck. (asinine, ridiculous)  Also I used GSXM 1 as a comparison about taking a chance, i know it depends on how any movie does.  Just look at blood shot!!!!  rai 0 was worth MORE before the movie.  The movie sucked....  And don't tell me u knew that a GSXM 1 at 9.6 was going to hit 40K when last year is was about 5 or 6k at the most!!! And I took a chance at the price of 3800.   And if the BRSKR movie is a Keanu hit, then what???  Will you tolerate me chasing you all over the boards saying I told you so????

When there's hype about a book it always pops in the beginning, then dies down.  So most make their killin in the beginning.  Look at an eniac 1.  9.8 sold for 700.  I guarantee it'll come back down.  That's what they do in the beginning.  Mark my words.
