I think it would be fun to make your own pin.  Make it out of cardboard and cover it with gold foil from a chocolate bar.

Then wear it to a comic con.

Imo, those pins are pieces of junk and not worth the angst they are causing.

I looked for them on fleaBay, saw some vastly overpriced pieces from Bad Idea.  In addition to those I found real pins that I thought were much cooler:

everything is junk, but we'd all rather have our junk be worth something.  i'd gladly make my own pin if I thought they would be worth anything.  if i do would u give me 400 for one

Store owner said I could post his reply to me:
As a dealer I cannot access that post directly. I am the owner of the company. And I have spoken to the staff. First, as has happened in the past we did not receive them there (our other store received theirs). Second, the person was told by a staff member, off the cuff, that they had no idea where they were (only the manager knew they had not been received) and said "maybe" they had been distributed to an online purchase (not sold) of the comic (which was incorrect and not the way to answer). He also made some assumption that even after being told we didn't have them that he was told he would get them. I would be more than happy to go into detail about how much we abhor the way these promotions are done by Bad Idea. We distributed the other buttons one per person to the first people who paid for the "Final 5" promotion Bad Idea made us sell. We are a store that goes out of their way to support our customers, especially the weekly return ones, but when a publisher creates a no-win situation like this stupid button one it literally becomes a nightmare. Being combative, argumentative, and pushy literally puts the brakes on our ability to work with someone. I hope this sheds some light on our position, but he never had the chance to get one of the buttons because the store did not get them; treating the situation with understanding of our position and civility would have been his correct course of action.

THAT'S A BUNCH OF BULL.  IF IT WASN'T HIM I SPOKE TO, THEN HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT WAS SAID AND TO SAY I MADE AN ASSUMPTION, ! I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT WAS SAID TO ME AND IT'S WHAT I POSTED.  THE GUY TOLD ME HE WOULD SAVE THEM FOR ME.

COME ON MAN! REALLY! "HE WOULD SAVE THEM FOR ME"

THAT'S NOT AN ASSUMPTION MAN. THAT'S A STATEMENT

If you don't mind could you forward this.

Ok.  it was a thin guy with glasses and he didn't say he didn't know where they were.  He told me they had not arrived. This is why I asked him if I could call back.  He said he would save them for me.   The next day I called back and was told I wasn't the first person and someone else either pre ordered it or purchased them online.  I DIDN'T MAKE ANY ASSUMPTION, THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT I WAS TOLD.  I WASN'T TOLD THEY DIDN'T HAVE THEM, I WAS TOLD THEY DIDN'T COME IN YET.  EITHER OR I WAS THE FIRST BUYER REGARDLESS.

I SPECIFICALLY ASKED WHEN I COULD GET THEM AND THE GUY TOLD ME I COULD COME BACK AND HE WOULD SAVE THEM FOR ME.  THERE'S NO MISUNDERSTANDING OR ASSUMPTION.  THAT'S WHAT THE GUY SAID.  NOW THIS OWNER IS THEORIZING A CONVERSATION THAT HE KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT, UNLESS HE WAS THE PERSON I SPOKE TO.

THERE POSITION WAS THEY DIDN'T COME IN YET/WE'LL SAVE THEM FOR YOU STRAIT TO SOMEONE ELSE WAS FIRST.  THEN GIVE ME A RECEIPT, ON THAT DAY, TO REFLECT THAT I ACTUALLY PURCHASED PASSIVE AGGRESSIV INSTEAD OF MONSTER KILL SQUAD AND PYRATE QUEEN, AS IF I DROVE AN HOUR TO THIS STORE AND WAITED OUTSIDE A HALF HOUR, WAS THE FIRST INSIDE JUST TO BUY PASSIVE AGGRESSIVE.  THATS NONSENSE.  HE WAS EITHER IN ON IT OR BLIND DEAF AND DUMB.

DON'T BLAME IT ON BAD IDEA WHEN THE PROBLEM IS YOUR SHADY BUSINESS.  THIS WAS THE PROMOTION THAT WAS SIMPLE TO FOLLOW, BUT IT'S MY OPINION THAT SOMEONE THERE IS A SHADY CROOK.

AND YOU TRYING TO MAKE UP FACTS THAT JUST DIDN'T HAPPEN SHOWS YOUR DECEIT.

AGAIN, I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT WAS SAID TO ME, YOU DON'T, UNLESS IT WAS YOU ALL THE TIME AND NOW YOUR JUST TRYING TO COVER YOUR !!!

Dang @kav you really tried to remedy this.

Looked at the receipt for that purchase and guess what,  the guy put that I purchased Hero trade passive aggressive and not Monster Kill Squad or Pyrate Queen.  SEE PIC.

No way in hell would I drive an hour away, get there a half hour before the store opens to get passive aggressive.  THAT'S JUST STUPID. This pisses me off even more.

I'm grading 2 copies of everything (1st prints) but I'm starting to run into books get I may not be able to get my hands on now. Only book I've back from CGC thus far is a single Eniac #1 9.8

I got 2 eniac 1's back.  Not 1st print got 9.8, the white 1st print got 9.9, so I'm very hesitant about trading away a raw 99 for a 98 after all is said and done

I've got one of each and will be leaving them raw. These comics are so well produced it's hard work to get them in less than pristine condition.

I've seen several with somewhat frayed corners,  I think it's those, or it may have been the Lot books

First off I’m sorry to hear this about your experience but I’ve learned from past mistakes not to assume what I’m told is the absolute truth. Were you dealing with the shop owner or an employee? Does the shop have multiple employees?  I would have made certain before I left the store that I had made a concrete deal with the owner and maybe even gotten some sort of proof to guarantee I would I get the pins before purchasing anything. This may have been an issue of too many employees not making proper communication between each other. Regardless I’m sorry for you missing out on the pins but I most likely would not have purchased the books without a guarantee of some kind that I would be getting the pins later. 2c

Wasn't in writing, but the guy did tell me they didnt come in yet and when he didn't say anything after that I'm like well can I get them later.  He said yea we'll save them for you.  Then I called the nx day and its oh they were purchased online

You can post here, but not sure if anyone but Bad Idea is going to be able to help you out.

Already emailed them, just wanted put it out here on social media that I got screwed.

  8. Just had a bad experience with bad idea comics.  Yesterday morning September 1, 2021I purchased Monster Kill Squad 1 and Pyrate Queen at BEYOND COMICS 18749 N Frederick Ave, Gaithersburg, MD 20879 at 10am.  I was the first one in the door and the first one to purchase these books.  I asked for the 2 pins.  I was told they didnt come in yet.  After a pause I noticed the guy wasn't saying anything, so I said well can I get them later.  He said sure just call back and we'll save them for you.  I said ok.

I called this morning September 2, 2021 at approximately 1010 am to inquire about the pins.  I was told someone bought them before you.  I said nah, I was the first in the door amd first to purchase, he said they were purchased through an ON LINE SALE.  I just thanks and hung the phone up.   IM PISSED.  The email I received says the pins were only to be gotten from physically being in the store to purchase the book.  I would like to know why I didnt get the pins from this store if I was the first to make the in store purchase. I pre ordered the from another store.  I called that store and was told the forat person showed up and already got the pins.  I said, but I pre ordered them a few days ago.  He said yea, but I had to physically be here to purchase. I said yea, that's what I thought and that was the end of the conversation.

So there's something shady goin on here and I have no problem blowin this thing up through social media cause I just got screwed.

Does anyone have any recourse I can take.  I've already stated my case to the bad idea contact email.  I played the game by the rules.  And I want my d@%n pins.  I earned em
  9. Is anyone having them Graded. Another idea.  If ur having yours Graded, how bout trading afterwards to ensure both r 98 or 99 so everybody's happy.  I have several but all aggressives.  I wouldnt mind gettin them cgcd 1st, then swapping them out with someone who has a few passives

It’s been evolving for years. I feel bad for all the true collectors that just want a sig/sketch for their collection. Those days are long gone. I can also appreciate the creators that need to supplement their daytime income by charging for their skills/time when they are not working on a book. Tough to manage on both sides.

Long gone, but those days sure didnt last long.  A few years at best

They've also killed the SS market as well IMO

Artists who weren't charging for sigs all the sudden want 30 bucks. I've stopped collecting SS because of it.

I stick to actors/actresses for SS these days now

I liked to get multi sigs on books like heroes for hope with multiple artists, but that's become impossible now with them all charging 20 amd 30 for them.  Several years ago Rubinstein wasn't chargin jack, then he started with like 10.  I got him to sign a few books, then he said somethin like 20, so I handed him 20, then he said no a piece.  I was like whaaat!  He said yea it's on the sign.  I didnt even see it.  He knew I got sigs b4 so he said not to worry this time but next time read the sign.  And I believe it was Ron Marz.  I got Daryl banks and I think Marz was there at Baltimore also, but after banks signed my GL 48 49 and 50 I went to marz who said how does 20 each sound, I said how bout 15, so he let me do 15 each.  He was just feelin me out, I shoulda said 10.

Being realistic everything is an investment.  Who in the world would ever want to pay way above and beyond what something is worth just for sentimental reasons unless ur rich and not a henn. I mean, if Im down on my luck and need rent money when I'm 75, it would b nice to know I could sell a few  books to relieve some financial stress or leaving something for ur children that's only worth only half of what u paid. I want everything I buy, but I want what I buy to b worth something otherwise I feel like a fool. We all acquire stuff and then show it off.  I can see in now.  " wow that's bad, how much u pay for it", "oh, i paid twice as much as it's worth",  man, ill never hear the end of it

Just to give you an idea for a sketch cover...

    Image #1 Remarque $500
    Image#2 Profile Sketch $850-$1000
    Image#3 Head Sketch $2000-$3000
Image#4 Bust shot no background $4000
Image#4 Bust shot with background (wraparound) $8000

I asked Moy if Lee would recreate Hulk #181 or something similar with both characters....$10K+  (but he also said Lee would unlikely do the request)

Ok, now we're talkin.  So 4 is called a bust shot.  After I sell my house I'll get in touch with his rep

Got a sketch at TorpedoCon from Lee. Was it worth it? Probably not, because he isn’t going to churn out true “Jim Lee” work in the 3-4 minutes he spends on it. However He’s an incredibly nice man, and I watched him do characters he has zero association with when asked, he just got on his phone and pulled up reference pictures and did it. I have no regrets, Jim Lee is the F’n goat and I’ll love this forever when I get it back from CGC in 18 months lol

Awe man! That looks like the same exact "sketch" cgc used as the example.  Well, I guess if it happy with it.

To me, based on the images provided by CGC, I'd call them remarques.  In my opinion, a remarque is free handed and small.  A sketch should have a rough pencil base and then marker/ink to more clearly define the image.  A remarque is quick, a sketch should take a little longer.  Both images (provided by CGC) look like Jim could produce in less than 5 minutes.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe Jim will spend more time on the sketches than the example provided.  For everyone who submitted, I hope their books come back like the two blank covers shared by @IceHole.

Side comment: I love Jim Lee (he's my favorite comic book artist), but if I'm paying $875, i'd much rather have some OA from Scott Williams.  Here's what Scott does as remarques.  Here's what he does as sketches.  I dunno how much his sketches cost at TorpedoCon, but I have two remarque's from Scott (and coloured by Alex) and they're awesome.

That's what I'm sayin.  They both look like remarques, one 2 minutes, the other 5.  I said maybe he takes more time, well if he does then the example they used would be wrong.

  15. aside from the Lee sketch issue. I noticed something that seems very strange.  They don't offer all combinations for signing.  So if I want Lee & Sinclair (JL59) I have to pay for Williams also.  called CGC and it was suggested that I send a note to not have Williams sign it, but then my question was the price.  I was told the price would be the same and Williams would probably still be paid even though I only got Lee & Sinclair on it.  Not an option for me, so I'm passing on that one.  Only sending 3 instead of 4 now.  At first I was told that when the slots are filled up then they are no longer available.  I kind of chuckled when she said that, so I said yea, but the slot isn't filled, the LEE, WILLIAMS, SINCLAIR slot is still available, I just don't want Williams on it.  She got it then.

Just to be clear...CGC is defining Pic 2 and 4 as a "sketch".  Pic 1 and 3 as a "remarque".  There is a price difference between the 2.

A "sketch" is done on a blank...the pricing for that is 875.

The"remarque" is done on a regular comic cover and is 460.

When I first subbed these I was told any blank sketch cover was automatically 800.  Any regular cvr with a sketch request was 400.  Jim Lee had different rules for sketch covers...he wouldn't work on them years ago and would only do remarques on cvrs for 400.  And when he did start working on blank sketch covers he charged double...but would give you a bigger "sketch".  This is just my experience over the last 5 years.  This is still a great op with a quick turn around!  I've gotten a bunch from Jim Lee because I think it was worth it!  And every one of them is worth it to me.  As for price examples...Liefeld charges 400 for remarques.  Clayton Crain just finished his 3 weeks ago and his remarques were 300.  It's what the prices are today.

    Gambit 1.jpg

Pic 2 & 4 sketches,  I got that, but I figured a sketch to be 1 & 3 (minus the remarques), but now my understanding is that is a "detailed" sketch.  didn't realize there was a difference
