I was first exposed to Fred Harman and Red Ryder back when I was a kid, reading the Sunday Funnies. I forgot all about him until a year or so ago, when I came across a Red Ryder comic book and it ignited my interest. I not only like his drawing style, but the stories are a cut or two above the norm, IMO. So far I have 3 or 4 Red Ryders, but I plan on steadily and slowly collecting them.

Red Ryders by Harmon are awsome. So are Straight Arrow by Meagher. Similar style. They are the  Carl Barks and Walt Kellys of Westerns!

  2. My goal is to buy less stuff other than comics. Takes up too much room...

Comic wise, I want to keep working on my 3rd EC collection and upgrading books I already have. A lot of what I would like to get is just out of my range now. But, I hope to add a few more Ace, MLJ and Timely's this year.

I probably will, as I always have, buy cool books like a drunken sailor when I get the chance.

Best holiday wishes to you all and I hope Santa brings you that special book you want!

Wifey got the LP for me as a gift. Chunky neck and heavy but beautiful nevertheless. Joe Bonnamassa limited. Have to keep it!

62 is truly vintage! How about a picture? The EB-3 bass is from about 1970.

I don't have any pictures of my guitars right now. But here is my practice amp...

I think these three might be my favorites for 2017, but there were certainly a few other contenders.

First, a Timely that I was happy to upgrade.

Next, I love the color palette and detail on this one.  Reminds me of a Japanese woodblock print.

My third choice is this Speed.  It represents a historic time in WWII when the USA and the Soviet Union were closing in on the German capital.  I saw this in an old CBM years ago and am excited to add it to my collection.

What a great trio! The Speed is so tough. I was so lucky to pick up a decent copy many years ago when hardly anybody collected them.

Don't give in to that sort of thinking!!

It's simple (if sobering) reality that fandom here assembled represents what appears to be a very wide range of budgets. I am as floored as the next boardie by the keys and bigger keys and higher-grade keys and so forth, but on some level, I really appreciate the stuff that the box-divers cull together on a more limited budget. Trust me: if I woke up tomorrow with the winning powerball ticket, darn straight you'd see me holding a mid- to high-grade Marvel Comics 1, Cap 1 and Whiz 1 by this time next year, but it's the under-the-radar stuff that really makes me feel over and over again that this is one cool hobby.

Remember the old adage that it's the $2 window at the racetrack that keeps it going.

That having been pontificated upon to too fine a point, my three favorites on the year would probably all hail from this small group of books I bought from a friend, as this was a very modest year for me in comics. I'm going with the Buccaneers and Strange Suspense Stories in the top row and the Two-Fisted Tales in the second row.

Well said Pop! It’s not too hard to write that big check (if you are fortunate to be able to do so). To me it is a lot more rewarding to scrounge, dig and sometimes just get lucky. I too love that Two Fisted 30. My favorite Jack Davis cover. The eyes are just awesome.

    Major New Matt Baker!

I've been looking for this for some time now, Tiny Tales Cinderella.  Last night I won it on eBay (thank goodness for bidnapper, as we had dinner with friends so I wasn't able to watch the auction).  This is the only copy I've ever seen for sale, and only the 2nd copy I've ever seen with my own eyes (a boardie posted his copy earlier this year).  The condition isn't great but I didn't know when I'd see a copy again so I went for it.  Demand for Baker's non-comic work isn't as high as his comics.  I ended up winning it for half my max bid.

Cool score Mike. I think I’d like it a little better if Cinderella was tied up though...

    Supermagician V2 #4

Doesn't  Our Heroine  look relaxed  in  her  potful  of  longpig  stew?  She's  staring  soulfully  at  Our  Hero,   galloping  to the  rescue
on his  trained  sea serpent  while  the  cannibals   scatter  for the hills!  There is  NOTHING      TODAY   like  a Golden Age  comic.

This one is  tight enough,  but  has  a couple  water stains  here and there,  some general wear and tear.  Big old  64 pager,
tight on the one  staple.  Offwhite pages.

    Asking  $35

Anyone know how many "From the collection of Carl Barks" books are out there?

I have only owned two. I also had at one time a couple (not signed) but were rubber stamped inside something along the lines of "If you are reading this comic, it has been stolen from the library of Carl Barks). Anybody ever see any of these?

Hey fellow ACE fans! Here's another 2 I've added to the run.  I'm extremely happy with both but the 26 I'm especially happy about.  Gerber 8 with no photo available in the journal.  Also the highest on the census and from the Berk Collection.  (I think this one was originally an 8.5 and subsequently got bumped up to a 9.0.) I'm still a ways off from completing the run but slowly making progress towards this goal.

Very nice indeed. I collect Aces and have never seen the 26. Of the two, I am more partial to the 19. Good luck on your quest to complete this run. I pretty much have given up. Don't be afraid to buy them in any grade. It might be a long time (if ever) that you get a chance.

For  sale:  one  wretched  Matt  Baker cover

Northwest  Mounties  12, this  is the  Approved  Comics  reprint of  issue 4,  with  a  new Matt  Baker  cover.

BIG  corner off  upper  RH FC,   more pieces out of upper  spine.  Interior is okay.

But  where  else  can  you snag  a  Matt Baker  cover  for this price?

    Asking  $10

    Frontline Combat 12

Well,  the  scan looks pretty good,  but  the  spine  is  nearly   completely split, and  there's  some  glue  at  the  lower
staple,  which is probably  the only  thing  holding  everything  together.   Razzafrazin' rotten...well,  the interior
is nice,   tight with  white  pages.   "Looks  good in a mylar"

    $15 takes it

Great stuff here, all Top 3 worthy. Certainly the toughest year for me as a collector to narrow it down to three, as i had a great one. Was going to pick my Blue Ribbon Comics #9 also, but since my good buddy @gino2paulus2 showed his (and was instrumental in bringing to my attention the copy that eventually became mine :foryou: )i'll pick another book.

1)The Berk auction was the event this year, i'll never forget that week , I finally scored a Larson copy (with a cool Octopus cover to boot)!  2)Also got an issue of the elusive 'Our Flag Comics' run in the CC auction before the Berk auction.  3)and lastly @Robot Man shared a tin Bugs Bunny toy a ways back and i've always wondered what it 'was'. Through much nudging from a friend who knows i love 'junk' i started perusing 'Etsy'. I saw and scored a complete version of this 1940's tin toy (with an original box!!). Bugs nor Porky 'talk' anymore, but this was the number one pick of 2017 for me.

Always happy to see people appreciate the whole spectrum of comic character collecting. Great grab on the Bugs toy Corey. Gotta be super rare and the box too? Never seen it. Was nice ce to see where my Bugs figure came from. Get it fixed and talking. In the toy world this is a very good thing as opposed to resto in the comic community.
