    Nice pick up!

Yeah these are a tricky case. Since mine has signatures on the bottom of the board and has all the information on the top filled out, I'm leaning towards having it framed with the entire board visible. If it didn't have those, I wouldn't be sure what to do.

That makes sense.  Here's a couple examples of how I generally frame my art...

  2. It really depends on the piece in my opinion.  Is there a signature(s), and do you want it/them to show in the framed piece?  How far out does the ink go?  What color mat (matte, matt) are you using, and how does that relate to the art on the board.  Maybe post a pic of the art and perhaps we could offer better advice.

I've done both, but it really depends on what the art is dictating it needs based on what the artist left on the board.

  3. Really only had serious interest in one page that was listed on Sunday.  I hesitated for like 15 minutes to do some research and it was gone.  Oh well.  Of the 17 pieces I was tracking, looks like just the one sold.  I did appreciate that two sellers sent emails saying they lowered the prices on a couple of the pieces I was tracking.  I do look forward to this event, but this one was bereft of things on my wish list.  Snaps and a twist to me for staying disciplined.

  4. Ordered this in November 2020.  Just arrived today, but still waiting on the Gandalf the White to accompany the Witch King.  Not sure if anyone has ever ordered from Weta Workshop, but wanted to share some pictures.  Quality seems pretty good for the price of $120.  I could be wrong because I don't collect many statues, but this is pretty cool.  It has presence.  The only real bummer is that the plastic packaging near the base broke and the sharp angles put some unsightly scratches onto the base.  I'm not going to let it worry me too much, but was disappointed.  I sent Weta an email with pictures just to let them know.

  5. Looking to acquire a page featuring one of my favorite characters, Adam Warlock.  Ideally, I'd like to have something from the 1990s era from any of the books published at the time (i.e. Warlock Chronicles, or any of the Infinity books).  That said, I'm not opposed to art from any book or era as long as he's featured.  Open to covers, panels, splashes, DPS, etc.  I'm likely not a buyer for the older 1970s stuff.  I do not have a ton of art, but also open to trades/partial trades plus cash.  Thank you.

Interesting, what about Jim Lee's Batman Europa?

There you're getting into things like "Jim Lee layouts" and someone else's finishes (I forget the other artist who is credited...I think he's European).  So, it's not as cut and dry as to who actually put pencil to paper and to what degree.  Europa pages can be really pretty and indicative of Lee, but I've always had doubt about how much pencil he put to paper whenever a page comes up.  Not my thing, but I know others scoop them up when they can.

Do you guys think Jim Lee's Superman Unchained is undervalued?

That's a good question as it brings a few wrinkles of OA collecting into focus.  If this is a nostalgia-fueled hobby, then no, it's likely not undervalued as kids reading that story at say 13 when it was published are not very far into their 20s now and presumably do not have the kind of $$ to increase prices based on their 13 year old feelings.  According to OA lore, that should change when they're older and have $$ to buy back their childhoods.  But who knows?

And I also say it's not undervalued because the current market just doesn't favor that story much, as most people (at least on this board) haven't read a comic book published after 1986 (polite jab).

I'm in my 40s and bought a DPS from Unchained because it was a DPS from Lee/Williams that was "only" $6K at the time (and I got a small discount!) and featured my favorite superhero.  Bigger bang for my buck, I guess, as opposed to something from Hush, or Lee's earlier 1990s work.  I don't think it's a story that will stand the test of time, so can't see it standing on it's own (value-wise) outside nostalgia (like I believe stories such as Watchmen and Dark Knight will).  But again, who knows?  Lee/Williams can be a bit of a different beast, so I do think their work will always be valued, just a matter of how much.

Personally, I think Lee/Williams Hush timeframe is likely some of their best work, it's awfully beautiful.  Hush and another Superman story that's not well loved (For Tomorrow) are better examples of Lee/Williams in action; Justice League also.  I think money would be better spent there than Unchained.  But you get what you can get at a price that's comfortable to you.  Generally speaking, if you're after an Unchained page it's likely better to buy now than to wait.  That's a very general statement.

  8. Well, I will say it was a much slower year for me.  Collecting is feeling more like a hustle.  And with prices what they are, I was really hesitant to pull the trigger on much.  I think this was for a couple reasons, one being that I was waiting to see if something better would come around, and the other being that I'm kinda not really believing a lot of this stuff is worth the cost to acquire.  I also have other interests, so in the push/pull that goes on between my hobbies OA doesn't usually prevail (at least recently).

    Hi,

I just added this Daredevil Cover - Man without Fear 1 - to my CAF. The cover was also a Stan Lee tribute cover.

Please make sure you check out the 2 extra pieces that go with this cover. All together it is three full size 11 x 17 pieces and I think it looks awesome and is fun !!

    Particularly love that Sharpe piece.

Best page in that book, in my opinion.  When Sharpe is on, he really puts out some compelling work.  I believe the current owner and I went for that page about the same time and I lost out.  Not surprising knowing my luck, ha!

Thank you! I had some of it before the first post … but I’ve only been collecting OA since 2019 so all done sighing that frame… lots of chasing sacrificing and selling my comics lol

It's funny, I sold a bunch of my keys to fund my transition into art around 2017 and I was looking at prices on some dealer/auction sites today and just can't believe how much the books have taken off.  I know this isn't really news, but it's just crazy to me.  I've only collected about 20 pages of art in that time and am feeling a bit burned out.  Difficult to explain, but it can really consume you.  So I admire your efforts :)
