  1. HEY THERE..... check this out. CAP #12.... 1942 + others Probably ranks in the TOP 5 coolest newsstand pics I have found.
  2. Here is a photo simply titled "comic artists at work"....it's a mystery to me.
  3. 1942 Newsstand...too bad someone grayed out the comics.....jeez that sucks !!!!
  4. GEEZ LOUWEEZE........ WOW....I love the absence of anything in the WHITE of the LOGO. What a PRISTINE copy. I also love where Ditko signed the cover. The Northford copy. Northford, wasn't that the almost all-horror pedigree ? I think Metropolis found that one. I don't know, I gotta look it up.
  5. The splash page from Strange Mysteries # 2, for the "Haunted Hand" story made the cover to the sister book, Mysteries Weird and Strange # 10...neat. Also, of note is the cover date of NOV 1954 for the MW&S # 10, November 1954, very late in the pre-code years. BTW...does anybody know the last MONTH-YEAR of the very last pre-code horror comics ? Maybe early 1955 ? I noticed the last issue of Strange Mysteries was # 21, dated January 1955.
  6. I stumbled across this Strange Tales # 14 on the Comic Link site and wanted to post it here. Unbelievably well preserved.
  7. "These people are militant." and " ...the pressure from this minority may force comics from the American scene." also, "The newsdealer gets frightened and removes them (comics) from the display"... This would be a great subject for a documentary. I would love to hear peoples recollections of just how poorly comics were looked down upon. The real-life stories would be great. Maybe interview some old fella who used to own a newsstand and felt the HEAT to remove the CRIME and HORROR comics. Cool Article.
  8. FIGHT AGAINST CRIME # 20 in this vintage group of PRE-CODE comic books. I cross posted this in the NEWSSTAND PIC thread Title: City councilman Ernest Debs holding horror comic books that were purchased in his district in Los Angeles, Calif., 1954 Publication: Los Angeles Daily News Publication date: 1 LINK
  9. Title: City councilman Ernest Debs holding horror comic books that were purchased in his district in Los Angeles, Calif., 1954 Publication: Los Angeles Daily News Publication date: 1 LINK
  10. COOL House AD...I noticed the FLIP pictured in the ad is different from either of the two copies that were ever published....but it looks similar to the first issues. Here is a link to the CGC gallery images of the two issues of FLIP FLIP GALLERY from the GCD Then again, maybe I'm wrong. I thought her head was turned a different way, maybe not. Oh well, COOL HOUSE AD anyway.
  11. WHO's counting...but NINE of the newsstand pics on NEARMINTS site, were pics that I've contributed. I guess I'm counting.
  12. You should try to get outside more often. Maybe get a couple of girlfriends...... Just Joking....NEARMINT has culled many a newsstand photo (I've contributed a few)...and each one is simply FAScinating...a time warp into earlier times... ... ...
  13. WOW..nice copy of the SHowcase # 1. I can't think of another long running title, in all of comics, that most ALL of the other issues are worth MORE than the # 1 issue. However, this copy is really nice. You don't see these everyday in high grade. Where did you originally obtain it. What's your recollections on the purchase ?
  14. Concerning the Black Cat 15 and TOMB 50, I seem to remember a number of high grade copies (maybe file copies) coming to light in the early 1990's. I also seem to remember the iconic METROPOLIS catalog listing them for a modest amount of $$$ around the same time. Maybe one of the Metropolis guys could shed some light on this. Don't get me wrong though...CLASSIC covers that anyone would be proud to own Anybody have the METRO catalog (the one with Fantastic 3 on the cover) with the price they were asking back then ?
  15. That whole run of BEWARE is pretty interesting, highlighted of course , by the great FRAZETTA cover to # 10. The title started out with three bi-monthly issues published by YOUTHFUL in 1952 (#'s 10, 11 and 12) TROJAN published #13-16, then started the numbering over at #5. TROJAN then published #5-15, which ended the run in MAY of 1955 (with the lone post-code issue, #15). So, there is actually TWO # 10, 11 and 12's. Yours is the COOLER # 10, although the first one was pretty cool too
  16. I've seen a million beater copies of Speed Carter Spaceman #1. Your 8.0 Crippen copy is definitely the nicest one. WOW !!!
  17. MENACE ...that whole run is so COOL and Jimbos copy is GREAT. I love the peeks inside of the Venus. (and the PEAKS on Venus..ha, ha ) Jimbo, maybe you could bless us with some interior shots of that Menace ?
  18. Not a recent purchase, but a good place to post this I guess. The copy of Weird Mysteries number 4 on ebay got me to wondering about past sales of this comic. I took a look at the Heritage past auction results...here is what I found. a CGC Fine plus for $604 in Aug. 2002 unslabbed VGminus for $247 in Aug. 2004 unslabbed VFminus for $1912 in Sept. 2006 unslabbed VG-FN for $568 in May 2007 Metropolis has a Not Yet Processed VF-NM that I imagine they would want at least $5,ooo for. The ebay copy , that is currently up for auction with ONE day remaining is listed as a SOLID VG and is currently going for $820. I wish I owned a copy. I've read that it's more elusive than the classic MONKEY BRAINS cover to number 5. Here is a pic of the copy that is on ebay. It looks like it's centered nicely. Some of the copies I've seen have a miscut on the right edge, usually cutting off part of the "NO. 4" on the bottom right cover. GREAT COVER...cool blood red sky
  19. Thanks for the inside shot at the horror content from the GHOST RIDER 7 that BB-GUN posted.... I thought these two panels were pretty neat... THE SPECTRE OF FRIGHT SIGHTLESS EYES
  20. Hey guys, I once had a Spider-Man # 298 (first McFarlane art, I think), that I bought of the newsstands with a double cover. Any idea what that would be worth now, say in 9.2 shape ?? I don't have it anymore, just curious what a market value would be on that issues. Thanks.
