  1. No straw man argument here if you take it in context with this thread. As for Captain America, I couldn’t tell you why people didn’t complain about his nature. Maybe because his performance wasn’t bland. At least to me. Of course he doesn’t need to go wild to be a strong character just like Charlize never went wild in Mad Max. She was very tough and exhibited a calm, authoritative nature while under duress.
  2. I don’t settle just because my childhood comic book characters are on screen. There isn’t a bigger Batman fan than me and when I saw the first reveal of the DKR style Batsuit I squealed like a little girl. Not really. But I did. And then.. the movie came out. You know the rest. I wanted to throat punch myself. Immediately went home and tried to erase it with a shower and repeated viewings of The Dark Knight. I’m pretty sure 98% of us here are not hanging in the woman-haters treehouse and don’t need to get over anything. We just want a great movie with great performances from men and women.
  3. I’m not either. Forty-something biracial dude. Not everyone who found the movie just ok or so-so is a sexist dinosaur. I want movies with strong leads, male or female, I don’t care. Aliens is one of my favorite movies growing up in the 80’s. The new Mad Max flick is highly entertaining and a female actor steals the show from the lead. There was more “girrrl power” in every scene with Charlize than the whole Captain Marvel movie. I mean Larson had more personality in Free Fire and despite the movie not being great, I really enjoyed her in it because she put out a performance. The old white dude line is already played out.
  4. In my Itoya, there’s no organization by character or title. I simply put the largest pieces on the bottom. I have multiple pieces around 17x22 and then all the 11x17s and smaller pieces towards the top. Those larger pieces I have are also done on much thicker art boards.
  5. Large Itoya art portfolio so I can flip through and view many pieces easily. I forget which size my portfolio is but I have some larger 17x22 pieces that fit nicely in there. Great to share with friends when they come over.
  6. While not as stylish or polished as John Wick, I enjoyed this brutal flick much more. Talk about guilty pleasure. Better lead actor and very charismatic. I’ve seen a lot but they had me wincing on “Day 1” and 2 and 3. You know what scenes I’m talking about. The opening with Knoxville had me worried it wasn’t going to go anywhere but they grab your attention and hold it.
  7. I’m just busting this movies balls, you know I’m a DC fanboy. I didn’t hate Aquaman, I just wanted to throat-punch the movie. DC’s been letting me down but I have high hopes for SS2 despite SS1. And Shazam sounds like it will work for me.
  8. Wow this is just horrible. Let’s just take the food from the mouths of all those people who sacrifice so much for our entertainment. Is it a camcorder copy or DVD?
  9. I was just thinking about that after seeing this. Meh from the critics but 100% from the audience.
  10. I find the RT site entertaining. It has absolutely no effect whatsoever on my decision whether I’m going to see a movie in the theater. I will go see a movie I know to be bad if I have an interest in seeing it. I often use this story but one of my favorite movies is Escape from New York. All of my friends who saw Escape from LA told me it was terrible. And I paid to see it anyway because I wanted to. I probably agree with the RT scores 6 or 7 times out of 10 so it’s not a terrible gauge but I decide - not reviews. My review is the only one that counts.
  11. This OA from Dave Sim was done in 2010 and later used as a Kickstarter incentive print for one of his projects. It changed hands a few times before I found it on Will’s Comic Art site. Big thanks to Will for sending it to Gerhard for me. Gerhard originally wanted to work off a copy of the original in case he made a mistake but we eventually agreed that taking a chance with the original would be more fun. First image is all Dave. Ger had the great idea of turning that white space into a picture frame in the second image. Then he stripped some tone off and painted it. The final is simply wonderful.
  12. Love love loved the Directors Cut of Dawn of the Dead. Did what a DC is supposed to do, not mess with the film but crank up the violence to 10. Can’t wait for his upcoming Netflix zombie flick.
  13. You mean like Escape from LA? Never happened.
  14. Yes, wonderful piece. The bottom panel could be a cover on its own.
  15. When I think of production art and color guides I’m assuming there is nothing original by hand on those pieces. So what is the consensus here concerning Lynn Varleys hand painted coloring over Frank Miller’s bluelines for DKR. Her painted pieces are actually the ones sent to DC for publication/print. So I wouldn’t call those finals a guide at all. I’d classify them as original art. Not to mention that 13k seems high for a color guide. That’s what a Varley DKR panel page went for at auction last May 2018 on CLINK.
  16. I haven’t been disappointed with any of the last few new X-Men movies but I also didn’t read X-Men growing up. The trailer was fine, didn’t blow me away. I liked the first trailer (especially the awesome music) better.
  17. MASTERPIECE. By Liefeld standards. And sadly, hundreds of artists with real talent posting on DeviantArt go unpublished while this boring uninspired cover hits the stands.
  18. I have no issues with any grading company commissioning a variant and paying for a certain number to be produced. At that point, it is theirs to do whatever they want with that particular limited variant.
  19. But then he will have effectively taken them all off the market so there would be no need to destroy them.
  20. A thread to showcase generous artists that did a drawing out of the kindness of their hearts for you and didn’t charge a cent. From the smallest headsketch to detailed drawings or paintings. And please share your stories as well.
  21. The last time I went to a con was in the late 1990’s. Every artist and writer there that I wanted signed my books for free. I have paid witnesses to obtain signatures for me from cons I could not attend but other than that, I feel if you meet a man/woman face to face and ask for them to sign some nostalgic item for you, it should be free. If Frank Miller says to me it’s $20 to sign my ratty torn first copy of DKR then the meeting loses something and ceases to be a cool moment. I wouldn’t pay it but wouldn’t lose any respect for him.
  22. 100k for a game cart, I’m in the wrong hobby! I’ve only made a few k profit here and there off original art sales.
