  1. Andy, I agree with your sentiments. The fact that it's a Harvey does give me pause, as that means that there are likely several dozen copies (at least) of this book floating around in vf/nm or better. Plus, it's just too pricey for me ar this time of year. My wife is anything but a golddigger (the fact that she married me proves it!), but don't think I could take the look on her face...I can see it now... "Look honey, I got you this beeeeauuuutiiiful snowglobe for Christmas this year!! And by the way, check out this NM BCM #50 I bought for me! Shake that snowglobe! Shake it, shake it!!" Btw Andy, my slabbed Ghosts came in the mail yesterday, looks great!!
  2. Hard to tell from just the scan, but those corners look a little rounded...maybe that book's slightly overgraded at 9.4?
  3. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=70&item=2285290301&rd=1 Anybody going to pull the trigger on this??
  4. Oy vey, Dice yer killing me! Nice books by the way.
  5. Woo hoo, love those books! Jealous of yer 197 9.6....my slabbed copy is a measley 9.4
  6. 350 sounds like a fair price to me. No doubt you could flip it for more someday if you wanted to, but I wouldn't if I were you! (and I don't think you'd want to either)
  7. Hmm, ok, well I guess I'll start flipping through the 225 pages....again!
  8. Wow, nice book, jbud! Outta curiosity, what was the other book you were looking for? So that 400 definitely gets added to my DC horror checklist. Anybody know of any other superhero books that might qualify as being bronze horror? Trying to get my list as complete as possible for when I go a-searching at cons and the like...I think Tec 425 would also qualify, with the spooky Wrightson cover. Any other suggestions, peanut gallery?
  9. Same here, I didn't really notice all that much more bronze horror on ebay than the usual weekly offerings...4 or 5 highgrade slabs, 3 or 4 VF-range slabs, and the usual outpouring of lots and lowgrade stuff. Well BassG, I wish you good luck flipping those lots, although I think I have to agree with Darth in thinking that it won't be so easy. 70's DCs are virtually ALL common books...the only thing that makes some of these books uncommon is when they occasionally pop up in exceptionally high grade. This is especially true of 70's horror as they were not typically hoarded for collectible "value" as were superhero books from the time period. But that doesn't mean that such books are scarce. They're certainly not, with a few tough exceptions. Still, I think you're right that you'll have better luck with those midgraders at shows than you would on ebay.
  10. Greggy! I recently bought a beautiful S-23 CGC 9.4 off of Dr. Banner....if you slab a 9.6, I'm gonna have to buy that off you and flip my 9.4! Ahhhhh! I'm turning into a full-on comic crackhead!
  11. Ahh...thanks for the tip, POV, I admit I'm pretty ignorant to the ways in which a comic gets printed (although I know a good bit about seventeenth century bookbinding...where's my no-prize?).
  12. Hey guys, what's up with this HOM cover? check the link: http://archangels.com/db_detail.php?id=371 How come the "O" in the word "Demon" (bottom right of the cover) is all filled in with that pinkish-red color? I've seen other copies of this book where this is not the case, and the "O" is just filled in with white like the rest of the logo...I know POV was posting awhile back about weird colors on covers and such...anybody have any idea what this is? Some weird printing/ink error? Or did some kid take a crayon to this book and it still got a 9.6??
  13. Closed at $393....actually about 150 less than I'd anticipated....what do you guys make of it? Would it have gone for more from somebody with more feedback? Not my buy, btw.
  14. Hmm, less than 10 minutes to go on ebay on the HOM 200 9.8...who else is watching this sucker??
  15. What about Strange Sports Stories? Would you guys consider that DC horror, or just a goofy title? That's one book I haven't read, so I'm not sure...
  16. Not a bad price, but, as you say, no super deal either....I had emailed the seller, asking him about restoration on the book, and the response was a little inconclusive, so I held back on bidding. The seller did say he'd be willing to refund money if CGC spotted resto on it, though. I'm sure it'll be a gem in somebody's collection!
  17. I think the Phantom Stranger series is also a book that is clearly a horror title with a continuing character, though I agree with POV that such books are uncommon. The PS series seems to me to be a very unusual exception, though. Even many of the earlier covers in the run seem to be knowing pre-code horror swipes. The rhyming Demon, I had forgotten about that. That's one of those concepts that I sometimes think is very cool, sometimes very annoying and stupid. All depends on who's writing him at the time, I guess.
  18. Cool...do you happen to know those specific adventure issues? I didn't realize Plop had any horror content. Good to know! Also, would you consider Kirby's Demon books more superhero than horror? Another title I'm unfamiliar with, as I think most of the Kirby 70's stuff is pretty awful...comparatively, anyway, when you look at the guy's stuff like his 50s work on Black Magic (hah! I bet I'm the only guy in the world who likes Kirby more for his Black Magic stuff than anything else he did! )
  19. Ok folks, so a few days back I asked if anybody had a DC horror checklist, and came up dry. So, as Sterling suggested, I've been making use of OS to and Shiver's website to put together my own. Here's what I've come up with so far, and I'd like to hear from anyone as to whether or not you feel I've left something out. But, before you peek at the list, here's a few caveats: 1) I think a couple of the titles are numerically an issue or two off, so the total count may not be scientific. I did most of the calculating at 3am. I'll have to look it over again and doublecheck the numbers. But at this point I'm more concerned with missing titles than I am the total number. 2) I haven't yet listed specific issue numbers for non-horror titles that have "special" horror issues. I've just listed how many horror issues are in that particular title (like the DC special series, for example). 3) I haven't stuck to the "official" parameters for when the bronze age begins and ends. There's a few hangers-on here, like the Madame Xanadu special and the Night force series (also I've listed the full run of titles like Ghosts and Weird War Tales that continued into the 80s) . This is because I feel these issues have a particular debt to the bronze age, and should be included as part of it. 4) I've included Weird Western Tales, but it's not really a title that I'm familiar with (other than seeing cover scans online). Is it considered a horror title? Ok, so here's the list in progress, with the aforementioned and acknowledged errors: Title (Number of issues) Weird Mystery Tales (24) Weird War Tales (124) Witching Hour (85) Doorway into Nightmare (5) Unexpected (117) House of Mystery (147) House of Secrets (59) Ghosts (112) Phantom Stranger (41) Sinister House of Secret Love (4) Secrets of Sinister House (13) Secrets of Haunted House (46) Dark Mansion of Forbidden Love (4) Forbidden Tales of Dark Mansion (11) Madame Xanadu (1) Super DC Giant (2) DC 100 Page Super Spectacular (1) DC Special (2) DC Special Blue Ribbon Digest (3) DC Special Series (6) Limited Collectors Edition (3) Swamp Thing (24) Tales of Ghost Castle (3) Black Magic (9) Weird Western Tales (59) Adventure Comics—Aparo Spectre Run, 431-440 (10) Night Force (14) Total # of titles: 27 Total books: 929 PS Anybody out there have close to a complete set???
  20. "Forever Young" was a song Bob Dylan recorded with The Band on the comeback album Planet Waves. Rod Stewart later covered the tune in the 80's and massacred it, along with Tom Waits' "Downtown Train." I'm Casey Casem, now back back to your regularly scheduled bronze horror...
  21. If the title is "Forever Young," then the song is by Bob Dylan, NOT Rod Stewart.
  22. My guess is that HOM 9.8 will hit the mid 500's when all is said and done...anybody know why the guy is selling, if he recently bought it for $550? Maybe it was a thrill-buy or something. Hey, I was top-bidder before Microbia waltzed in and knocked me out of the game...no way I'm going any higher than I already did, I've spent too much money this month on comics as is!
