  1. Wow, what the hell is your LCS?? I've gotten a few ECs out my LCS owner's personal stash, but usually the grooviest thing they have up on the wall is a vg copy of any given swamp thing issue...I'm jealous!
  2. I've been wondering how rare America Menaced is in comparison to Blood is the Harvest...Blood is in the Gerber photojournals and ranked an 8, America Menaced isn't in there at all...
  3. And then you took a totally unecessary and irrelevant low blow to Sterling's family situation, of which I was totally unaware (and probably have should remained so). Sterling, you have my sympathies on the the death of your stepfather. Truth be told, I've been none too happy about the tenor of the posts on this thread as of late. Seems like things are getting far too catty for my tastes, such as when I expressed my enthusiasm for my copy of Ghosts #1 only to have greggy try to take the pizz (well, I needed a reason to save money and not bid on his auctions anyway). As much as I love bronze horror, I think I'm probably checking out on this thread for a while anyway.
  4. Nice!! I want one! I saw a slabbed 9.2 going for $550 awhile back....I tried to wheel and deal for it but while I was haggling somebody else stepped up and paid the 550, cry cry cry.
  5. Nice book, BassG! That one might be worth a crack and resub to CGC. Maybe you'll get a 9.2?
  6. This is not a recent purchase, but I just posted this in another thread so what the hey. This is my single favorite pre-code book in my collection. In fact, it's my favorite comic ever. It's probably the reason I still collect comics at all. As a kid I had a reprint edition of this book, and read it until the staples popped and it was the most dogeared thing you'd ever seen. This is also one book in which a I went through a long chain of upgrades to finally nab this beauty. It was fun questing for this one!
  7. Ya can always grab the #24 from Metro for a measly 6k...
  8. This is the only Lost Valley book I own....I've seen a bunch of 'em on comiclink that have tempted me, but so far I've resisted the compulsion...seems like a pretty legit pedigree, though, unlike some others out there!
  9. Ahh...yep, that was the seller, Paull. Thanks for clearing that up for me. As far as I can tell, there's no reading crease on the book. It really looks pristine. For a book with a paper cover from 1950, it's in astonishing shape!
  10. I could be confusing things, but I think the seller might have been madcowcomics or moocowcomics or something to that effect?
  11. Nope, I am not paperpeddler. Can't recall offhand the seller's name on ebay, but it wasn't him, either. Sounds like a case of hot potato to me!
  12. Paperpeddler won the 9.6? That must've been a short while before I bought it...maybe it's changed hands a few times this year?
  13. Just dug up my America Menaced! Check this one out gents, it's the Lost Valley copy, CGC 9.6 (unrestored). I paid a healthy multiple for this, but at the time I had a few extra bucks and what the hey, it is an irreplaceable book. Plus it's the only book where I've got Harvey beat!! Feast yer eyes...
  14. Thanks for the link, Harveydude! Wow, what an amazing collection you've assembled. Mine pales in comparison. How long have you been collecting this genre of books? I love that iceberg cover...I'll have to search one of those out!
  15. On slabbing lowgrades...the only real value I see to it is the restoration check. I've submitted a few lowgrade GAs for that reason. Still, I wouldn't have the nerve to charge a multiple on ebay simply because I had it slabbed. But I would at least jack the price up $30 (the slabbing cost) as I've taken the time and trouble to assure the potential buyer that there's no resto on the book.
  16. Agreed, Keith! I'd like to someday upgrade my CSS #22 to a VF if the price is right, but till then I'll be more than content with my copy... It's definitely a key book. I believe it shares a line in OS with issue #23 because that issue was also used in the hearings...still, #22 IMO should rank way higher!!
  17. Eerie #1 shouldn't even get 8x guide...no, I can't think of any. Maybe some classic covers in extremely low grade (like 1.0 and under) where the multiple wouldn't end up being that much money anyway. Other than that, I'd be stumped to think of a book.
  18. Very true, good point...Is This Tomorrow is the most common of the bunch, though finding any of these giveaways in high grade is pretty remarkable. I own a very nice copy of America Menaced.. I'll have to dig that up and throw it on the scanner later. The other two you mentioned I haven't got (yet)....Heritage is selling a fantastic copy of WWIII #1 on ebay right now, that's a cool book too that's kinda in this little niche....but they want $1,300 for it, and that's too much for my budget just now..
  19. Paull, there's one of those Witches tales going on ebay right now. A slabbed copy, about $200. A bit pricey, but not too terribly outrageous I suppose...
  20. That's a nice book, goldust...is that the one currently on auction from Warehouse? I tried to pop the reserve on that one, but couldn't do it. 4x guide was my maximum, a healthy multiple for a VG, classic cover or no. Wonder if anyone else will grab it?
  21. Heya folks, just got this back from CGC today, so I thought I'd use it as the start of a hopefully fun thread. This one came back as a 9.0! Not bad for a book from 1947!! (I think this one's undervalued in guide at 180...whatdaya all think?) Looking forward to seeing what goodies you guys have got stashed under yer pillows!
