  1. Here's a G7, though I think in fact it is probably a little easier than that to acquire. Here's a Gerber no-show that IMO should rank an 8....or dare I say 9!?!? And here's a newly-bought post-auction book from the Heritage auction. Paid a pretty penny, but I have been jonesing for a copy of this one for a few years, and I can't think of too many books more appropriate to my world, so I went for it. Gerber 8, so speaketh the bible.
  2. That Weird War cover reminds me of the tiered-approach to cover design that Superior comics very briefly experimented with.
  3. Heck, I'd probly pay double guide for a copy of that severed leg book slabbed at VF. I've found Dark Mysteries to be one of the tougher pre-code titles in high grade....I absolutely love the first couple of issues with Wally Wood covers... This brings my pre-code set up to 22% complete! (check my bio)
  4. Just nabbed this one on ebay last night...thought it was a steal! Closed at only $25 under guide, but guide value for this one ($150 in VF) is, IMO, a joke. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=6508706546&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT
  5. Thought so too. I believe it was about $250 under guide. I pulled the trigger pretty quickly on it for fear that others were looking at it. Guess I was right.
  6. BTW, anybody have any info on the date stamp on the above book?
  7. The bronze continues to be good to me, so i've picked up another Golden Age beauty. I love the cover on this book, as it sums up for me in one image just why 1940's comic books are so deliciously tough in high grade.
  8. Kudos to Sterling for picking up some of my HG bronze. It was a fairly large lot of slabs, and regular communication made sure that the deal went through. Three cheers for a stand-up guy. Enjoy those books!
  9. I haven't paid my comic dues like JB, so I might be really wrong about this, but I'm not sure there was ever a time that this hobby was "innocent." It seems to me that once somebody realized that comics=more $$$ than cover price, scams of all sorts would immediately abound, perpetuated by those with less than an admirable sense of ethics. I share many of JB's concerns, but I also wonder as to what has really been "lost"...other than cheaper prices in the OS!!
  10. And here she is! Very quick to ship, thanks Metro. My crappy scanner doesn't do this beauty justice, but you get the idea..
  11. I missed this earlier, somehow. Yep, Harvey's correct, that sucker's mine! Didn't realize it had been listed twice, I only caught it the one time that I bought it. If I remember right, it was listed at an opening bid of $800 and a BIN of $950. I saw the listing before I went to bed, and said to myself, "I'm going to bed and If I get up in the morning and it hasn't sold, I'll take it." Sure enough, it was still there 8 hours later so I pulled the trigger.
  12. Indeed, that sci-fi LB Cole is a good price. If I wasn't really working hard to focus my wants, I'd be all over it too. "Must be strong..."
  13. Shocking Mystery 51 CGC 8.0 off-white pages, from Metro. Paid double guide, so I guess that's more than "standard", but I sold about 10 books on Comiclink this month and did pretty well so I figured what the hey. Love that cover.
  14. I'm thinking about going after a VF run of Shocking Mystery Cases, as it's a fairly short run...I just bought one, so we'll see how it goes...hasn't arrived yet, but when it does, I'll post it! It'll also be my first LB Cole, period! (As a precode horror collector, I thought it was pretty sorry that I didn't have a single LB, so I finally took the plunge). This also brings my longterm precode goal (see my bio info) to 20% complete, if I count this one as precode horror, which I think I am. What do you guys think? I gather that these books are mostly crime reprints and such, but the covers are pretty "horrific" to me....so what's the general consensus on Shocking Mystery Cases, crime or horror?
  15. Wow, I'm surprised the premium is only 20-30%. I guess the LB craze is on "cool" at the moment, comparatively speaking, as a few years back they were running really hot. The cycle will cycle as cycles do, and my guess is that things will pick up again in another couple years...
  16. Sfilosa, what do you find the premium is generally for LB cole in 8.0 or better? I'm thinking double guide for a slabbed 8.0 would be about normal.....am I on target, or too high?
  17. If ya wanna good laugh, ya should see how I pack my mini-comics to CGC! It must take 'em an hour to get to the durned books. Blame me for all the turnaround delays! Kudos right back at ya POV, for the painless negotiation and quick close of the deal. And for a guy who knows as much about pre-code as you to say this is one of his nicest books, well, that makes me all warm and tingly inside.
  18. Fantastic books! Absolute love that Weird Terror...that's one I've been looking for in VF....Metro had a VF copy awhile ago but sadly I didn't pull the trigger fast enough. Man, I am so jealous of you guys who can stroll into yer LCS and walk out with a Weird Terror, in any grade! If I were to ask for Weird Terror at my LCS, they'd probly say, "Is that a character in Identity Crisis!?"
  19. Ahh...now I remember where I heard it was a DC...it says so right on the cover! check the attachment..
  20. Yeah....I think I read that it was....in fact, I'm sure of it! Hey Ian, how about talking me into letting it go for 10k?
  21. Thanks for the tip. Guess I better put that sucker in a fire safe!
