  1. The Crime Suspenstories slabbed at a 6.0. I thought it might go a little higher (maybe f/fv), but I guess some slight chipping did it in. Still a respectable slab-grade for key GA, though.
  2. Just posted this in the pre-code horror thread but what the hey. Witches Tales #19, Bethlehem Copy. I've had this one for a while, but sent it out to CGC a couple months ago and just got it back. Gotta love that Faustian cover!
  3. The back cover of Great Comics #3 is almost equally interesting and bizarre...
  4. Up next, one of my holy of holies. Great Comics #3!! Technically not pre-code horror...or is it!?!?
  5. It's about time I posted some scans on this thread! For the longest time I couldn't, thanks to some firewall or something on my PC that I didn't even know about. Here's two books I recently got back from CGC. First off, the Bethlehem copy of Witches Tales 19, featuring one of my favorite devil covers!
  6. If it makes you feel better, have your little digs. But I think you're being a little silly. It's a tough book in HG, and in my world this one's a non-fugly book. But here's the scan. Feel free to poke it with a stick, if it makes you feel better about yourself. It still won't burst my enthusiasm for this book.
  7. crooked mofo? Does that mean off-center? If so, maybe a little, but nothing out of the ordinary for a 52 pager, and certainly by no means is it an aesthetically ugly book. I'm pleased with it!
  8. Not sure who's copy it was, but yeah it did come from Metro's online inventory...$475...bought it in March or April of this year, I believe..very sweet book!
  9. Ahh...didn't realize that was yours! Nice going. Wonder what a nicer 9.4 would get on the link? I paid $475 for my copy...at the time I thought I really overpaid, but maybe I did ok!
  10. Guys, did you see this? http://www.comiclink.com/./itemdetail.as...3DASC&id=593424 Wow! $525 bucks with cream to off-white pages AND a date stamp! And it sold in a matter of hours. If I wasn't earnestly working on a run of Ghosts, I'd put up my CGC 9.4 copy with ow/w pages for sale.... What do you think? Will more of these hit the Sarasota slabfactory and crawl out of woodwork now?
  11. There has been a lot of stuff as of late. People finally getting wise to the fact that these books trade at higher than guide prices?
  12. Five Voodoo Annuals??? Hmm...a horde of voodoo annuals....
  13. Harvey Files haven't been doing well on ebay as of late...this and another that's up right now are kind of an anomaly....
  14. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=2286679256&ssPageName=STRK:MEBI:IT That's better.
  15. Have to agree with Paull's assement of the pre-code market. The only possible exceptions I see would be something like a Gaines file horror book slabbed at 9.8 or something. That's going to see much higher multiples than 2x guide, though the ebay price won't come near the price at a heritage sale. I think about 6 months ago a Vault of Horror 9.8 sold for slightly over $2200 on ebay. That would have probably gone over the 3k mark at heritage, IMO.
  16. Thanks for the vote of confidence on my newest purchase, shiver. Truth be told, I don't really pay much attention at all to dates when determining what "age" a comic should be in. I mean, I do use some vague parameters, but to me bronze horror as a distinctive feel...and that feel could come from 1967, or 1985. It depends. To me, Alan Moore's first year on Swamp Thing is more "bronze" than half the Marvel horrorbooks of the seventies. I guess I'm more interested in collecting a certain look, mood, story, and tradition than I am in collecting according to dates...
  17. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=70&item=2288413833&rd=1 Ack! It's back again! At a new low, low price!
  18. Well, the BCM 50 came and went with no takers. That seller didn't seem to have the greatest track record for comics...most of his items in the past went for 30 bucks and under...how's this guy all of a sudden come up with a comic for over 2k? Maybe the book would've sold if it had been offerred by somebody with a track record?
  19. Agreed, it is a tough, underrated, and undervalued book that's been doomed to the quarter bin shuffle for too long. I think that this one gets unnoticed a lot because it's from '81, thus technically not "bronze" horror. That's not a characterization of the bronze age that I share (i.e that it distinctly and definitely ends in 1979), but there you go. Reynold Jay also had one of these in 9.8 for about 90 bucks plus shipping, but I couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on that one. CGC'd 9.6 with white pages is good enough for a nonfinicky collector like myself, har har. BTW, Anybody ever read that issue of DC Comics Presents with the Superman/Xanadu team-up? Any good? I think it's issue 65, but could be wrong. I've been meaning to pick up a reader of that on ebay for awhile now...
  20. Ya'll can take me to task for pulling the trigger on this and overpaying, but I love this book and wanted a HG example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ADME:B:EOT:US:3 Can't believe OS still lists this one-shot at $5. That's just silly.
  21. Well, Metro's last mass mailing had a Mr. Mystery #11 in 9.2 for over 6k....
