Nice!  It would be good to see variant collectors post their double covers just to what other issues are out there.  In this thread I only recall seeing a WWT 15 (page 117) and the mention that someone also had that one.

So no other price variants with double covers?  I did see a Defenders 37 DC on eBay to go along with the WWT 15’s and Doctor Strange 13’s mentioned in the thread.

So, I just bought my first Marvel Team-Up double(I had Amazing, Spectacular and Spidey Super Stories so now I have all of his first four series with doubles), and was wondering how rare this is:

A double cover with an arrival date stamp:

I would think it would be against nearly all odds that a comic with an error would not only slip through unnoticed and then get shipped on top of a stack of books sent to the newsstand! hm

Im always looking out for my bday stamp 9/4.  I saw this book but didn’t notice the stamp.  Keen eye!!!

To MCS’s credit, they’re normally super quick pulling books from the bay once they’re sold on the site and vice versa… but it sometimes takes a little while for the computers to communicate. But I’ve watched to see how long it takes a few times I’ve seen a bay listing and went to MCS for the lower price, and it’s normally within 10-15 minutes.

I saw trademarkcomics post after the fact so I knew the cancellation was forthcoming.  I  put MCS at the top for quality and service.  They were my first back issue purchase way back in the late 70’s from a lone star comics mail order catalog.

Looks like their payment didn't go through because it got reposted. And of course, I didn't miss out this time.

Beat to the punch again.  I purchased Saturday night 8:41 so guess MCS didn’t pull their listing from eBay when you purchased it from their web site. The good news is this frees up $120 toward a uniquecomics octuple cover book! 😂😂😂

Ah, ok. I can see that if there’s value to these people may attempt to counterfeit some. I’d wager this is legit, as it came from my dad’s collection, he probably bought it new. He didn’t buy many comics after the 80s.

its definitely clinging pretty desperately to the bottom staple. Particularly at the front. But it’s still hanging on.

The date stamp on the back cover adds to the coolness. One of a kind. Thanks for sharing!!

  7. Not counting the Frankenstein dc’s that uniquecomics is churning out do we see double covers on comics that are less than a decade old?  I talked to owners at my lcs about it.  They have 2 locations in operation since 2018 and they have never pulled a DC from new comics nor has any customer made mention of purchasing one from them.

Better off selling them yourself. You may take a 15-20% haircut through Shipping, time spent, etc. But you'll be taking a 40-50% haircut selling to dealers. Take The Sandman series you're selling. It's a hot series right now cause of the Netflix series. Other than number 1 and 8 you'll be offered cover price at best on the rest (I don't know the condition but you seem like you'll have taken care of them so we'll average them out at 9.2s) as they are raw. You'll get maybe $250-300 for that 75 issue series at best. However, if you wait and as a new character is introduced you can drop the "hot" issue on Ebay at the going average and get 10x what a dealer would offer. My 2c.

This was my thinking as well as I give thought to how I will liquidate my modest collection one day.  Let’s take my ASM run of 175-400.  Is it correct to assume I would make more by selling 194, 210, 238, 252, 300, 316 and 361 (and maybe a few others) separately on eBay than I would by selling the entire run to a dealer?

This came as a surprise in a run of Iron Man #1-54 that I bought last year.

Nice find!!!  I’ve discovered a handful of mark jewelers inserts over the years but never a double cover.  I’d like to see posts of DC’s were current owner pulled off the spinner or purchased directly from a LCS.

I disagree with Secret Wars #8, only because it is a great image from a fun story that ties into the history of the greatest costume change and one of Spidey's greatest foes ever. Plus, for me, when held next to ASM #252 (which is cool but a swipe) and MTU #142, it is the superior cover.

    I’m in this camp.

Indeed. Another handy tool when looking on eBay, along with the star stamps and the top edge blue centre line. MJI collectors will understand

I wonder when spotting a MJ candidate based on staple placement or star stamp,  what the odds are the insert was removed? 🤔   Maybe most stayed intact.  It’s not like anyone actually bought the jewelry or needed to rip them out to get a cool tattoo. (shrug)

OK.  So I look at a sample of approximately 10 Superman and 10 Action Comics from 1981.   Staples on Direct and Newstand were all close to being in the same spot as each other.   Most of the jeweler staples (but not all) were about 1/4 inch to 1/2  inch in a different spot (top staples were higher).   When I get time, I will pull some more samples and show some photos.  So the staple difference is a thing for sure.

There is a very informative discussion on the staple topic starting on page 29 of this thread. The SME appears to be @trademarkcomics .   I have found myself paying close attention to staple placement ever since!

I was scanning books for an eventual sale last night and found 2 MJ's in 2 issues of WWBN!  However 1 also had a marvel value stamp cut out and the other book isn't in the best shape. Oh well, better than nothing!

Gotta love the “surprise” MJ inserts. Please share the pics.
