I don't know when the CCA seal was dropped for good without looking it up, but I think it's more likely that it is missing from Barbie #14 in error rather than by design / requirement. It was there 10 issues later....

I'm fairly sure it went on for years after that too...

Marvel dropped the CCA in 2001 though some specific issues or titles did not carry it when it was a thing.

That looks really nice.  Was it creaseless pre framing?

    Patrick

I wish, but it was folded into a nice little square.  The folks at the Hobby Lobby essentially pressed it to flatten it out for the framing process.  I was pleasantly surprised at how good it looked after everything was said and done with it.  Now to make a man/nerd cave with comics and football stuff.

If you enjoy older Xmen, then the recent series is for you.

Modern take with the old greats and a bunch of new characters.

Forge has made recent important appearances.  I really liked him, such a great supplement to all the sluggers.

    But not $1k worthy.

Is the X-Men Legends series that started a few months back?  I think I remember seeing it on the shelf at the LCS but never picked it up.  If so, I can scoop up a few back issues and give it a shot.

Much of this was my experience.  I collected it until the end.

But Austen really killed the book for me.

I friggin loved Xtinction Agenda.  I bought the Wanted Poster a few years ago.  Looking at it brings back so many great memories.   Our story gave the poster away if the entire set was purchased at a premium (yep, it means we were just paying for it but too young and dumb to know it).

Awesome!  I've been wanting to pick up the XA poster as well!  I was super pleased with how my Fall poster came out after being framed at the Hobby Lobby.

  4. I was watching an auction on a 184 9.8 about a month or so ago.  I considered hopping in then it sold for over $1k.  Now, some may argue it was a newsstand but newsstand or not, there is no way in dog balls that Forge's first appearance is ever worth a G.

So I'm going to an Estate Sale tomorrow which has "1970s and 80s x-men" but "no rare issues."  Any advice on which to grab if they're there??

There shouldn't be anything rare in there minus the 30 cent price variants (98, 99, 100) and 35 cent price variants (105, 106, 107) if it is being touted as 1970s and 1980s X-Men.  If you're wanting to know the issues to look for that have gone stupid in the last few months, then anything with a first appearance.  221 & 244 come to mind immediately.  212 has a black cover that fetches a premium in high grade.  Maybe if some are Canadian price variants (162-208), then high grade ones are sought after.  141 and earlier are doing well.  Other than that, sit back and enjoy the reading.

  6. I grew up reading X-Men from the 1980s.  I probably started in the 270s but worked my way back.  Notwithstanding the greatness of the Claremont time with Byrne and Cockrum, I was quite the fan of the series up until around issue 400.  I've since completed the entire UXM run since they were mostly dollar bin fodder by the time I got back into collecting.  I don't know if I'll ever read them, but I do revisit the era I'm fond of from the late 70s to the mid 90s.  I liked Silvestri's art a lot when I was first getting into UXM.  I scoured the back issue bins to find issues in that run as well as issues like 201, 202, 205, 210-213, 221, 222, etc.  I loved the Fall of the Mutants and reread it a couple years ago.  I thought the X-Men portion was done well.  Hell, I even bought and framed a Fall poster recently.  But, yeah, then Jim Lee took on the art and I really started digging it, then got into X-Men v2 (1991).  Eventually, it all started becoming a convoluted mess and I was almost out of high school and would rather spend what money I was making as a dishwasher on a date than on comics.  I look fondly on that era of comics.  I'm sure it's a lot of filler with some hits and severe misses.  But damn, it was fun to read those stories and see how they differed with the X-Men cartoon.

Can someone tell me the first appearances of Phalanx, Cameron Hodge, Stephen Lang and Brood storylines?

Hodge was X-Factor #1.  I think he became a Phalanx somewhere later on after the X-Tinction Agenda.  Lang was UXM #96.  Don't remember about the Brood.  I have a lot of reading to get caught up on.

  7. Probably nothing yet, but I have the whole UXM run with extras plus the various other X titles from the era.  I was more surprised when I was seeing copies of UXM 221 going for high amounts plus X-Factor 6 was getting hot again.  So, I decided to start checking more stuff out and my mind was blown.  I also don't know in what reality Transformers #1 is an almost $3K book in 9.8.

MCS wants to charge me over $90 to send ONE book to AUS! This does not count import taxes that trans-shippers would also charge.

In comparison it cost me ~US$20 to send a shipment to a US boardie.

It's been a while since I've sent anything international that wasn't through ebay's Global Shipping, but it does look like a medium USPS priority box going overseas starts around $90.  That could account for MCS' high shipping rate.  First Class International rates seem to have gone up to about $30 as well.  Still, $90 seems excessive.  With the import taxes that other countries have, that adds up quickly.   And you're right UK and AUS shipping to me is relatively inexpensive with tracking.

  9. For first class international, I think we ship up to 2-3 pounds for $24 (generally what I've seen for sending to UK and CAN).  Not bad with tracking, so I really don't have a problem shipping to the UK, CAN, NZ, AUS, GER, and a few other places.  I'm open to doing it since I like collecting pence copies of Marvel comics so I like to pay it forward so to speak.

  10. I received a high value package from a fellow forum member, and a signature was required by UPS.  I missed the first delivery attempt and UPS left a notice.  I took off work early the next day to wait for it.  Around 3PM, I check outside and the package was sitting on the front step.  No knock, no "Hey, it's here", nothing.  Tracking confirmed it was signed by someone (most likely the driver).  It's bad.  FedEx generally waits until I answer the door, or I reroute what I can.  USPS is straight leave it at the door and forge my signature.

Any good?  How about Jim Shooter’s Dazzler the movie GN?

We all make fun but curious if anyone’s ever read it. Thanks in advance.

I liked it.  It definitely got better as it went on.  It was a little odd to see her going toe to toe with Galactus and the Hulk.  But, new characters have to look strong.  I would say the back half of the series is better than the first half.  The stuff with Rogue was a fun read, and then after she goes to California wasn't too shabby either.  It's nothing groundbreaking, but I definitely have a soft spot (possibly on my head) for some of these random series like Dazzler, The Thing, and Spider-Woman.  Dazzler the Movie was ok.  Not the best read, and probably more of a Shooter vanity project since he sunk a lot of resources into Dazzler.

I bought the Byrne FF run off the stands from 232 to 282.  Many are unread, almost all are newsstand fresh.  Are any or all of these worth slabbing?

The way I look at it, I could (1) do a pre-screen for 9.8 and slab all of that quality for $20 each - which seems worthwhile), or (2) I could submit for a press and slab for $48 (fast track because I would prefer not to wait 5+ months) - which seems a little costly, or (3) both pre-screen for 9.8 and then submit the ones I think would hit 9.8 with a press for a press.

Assuming I want to sell the comics, anyone know if this makes any economic sense?

With the way the market is now, everything is a key so why not?

I'd recommend 3 copies of Dakota North #1.
It has everything going for it. 1980s nostalgia. Strong female lead.

    And she has skills:
Dakota North is skilled in several forms of hand-to-hand combat. She has trained herself to be extremely physically agile and moderately adept at gymnastics. Her excellent physical condition provides her with reflexes, recovery time, and stamina above the norm for a woman of her physical age and build. North is also proficient with a variety of firearms, and is an excellent marksman.

I buy the heck out of NM copies of Dakota North #1-5 when I find them.  I liked the initial 5 issue series.  I assume it didn't sell well since it ended on a cliffhanger.
