  1. Geez, just the absolute bravery of that man. Thanks @SkoBuffs99. What an absolute hero, swimming through debris and sharks (probably mostly oceanic whitetips, the sharks with the world's biggest killcount) for so long, to finally make it to safety. And what does get after that? A mere commendation letter. What BS.

It's obviously far too late now to make it right for this poor man, but does he have living relatives? If so, IMO, he should be posthumously awarded a bravery medal (I don't know what kinds would be available, but surely there's something) and attach it to his file, plus have something tangible to give to his family, to pass on along with with his wondrous story of man beating the odds with outrageous deeds that are way above what we 'should' be capable of.

I can't really get into tabletop games like this. My head immediately goes to: "Why play this when I can play a video game?" I need some sort of visual stimulation to keep me interested.

Plus it's hard enough getting people together online. These days I don't know you'd do it regularly in person, reliably.

  3. Battlestar Galactica the 2003 remake. You have to start with the miniseries, which is admittedly a slow burn, so make sure you're in the right mood to handle that. You need to pay attention, because even little details matter at later points. You're rewarded with an ending that successfully upends what you thought you knew, and throws you into the first actual episode, the frantically paced '33', which sets the tone for the first season. Things go from there and are much improved, you just need to get over that hump that is the initial miniseries. If you can do that, you're rewarded with television gold.

As for movies, my favourite Guillermo Del Toro movie is Pan's Labyrinth. It's sub-titled, and is set during the Spanish Civil War. A little girl is sent to live with her pregnant mother and her current husband, an evil man commanding local Spanish forces. Horrible things are happening to/around the little girl, who is reading fairy tales to cope, when she starts seeing fairy tale creatures for real and having her own adventures. Is it really happening or a figment of her own imagination, her way of coping?

PS despite how it may sound, this movie is an adult movie, and absolutely NOT suitable for children. It is, however, and imo, Del Toto's finest work.

I wish I could say I've never seen something that bad before.  All I can claim is that it's rare in my experience... and luckily, I was only dealing with a book under $50 with international shipping, not a classic EC book like that. To the seller's credit, they quickly gave me a full refund.  I still have no clue what the heck could have done damage like that:

'Best' I've seen was someone asking on Twitter how the USPS had managed to mangle their new door in shipping. Photos were posted, the thing was in a bit of an 'S' shape. A DOOR!

To the OP, sorry this happened to you, and I hope you find another copy for the same price that's as good, if not better, than that one. I also hope the seller gets full restitution.

  5. I'll add this cover, by Jim Lee. I often see people cite as one of their favourite copper covers, and favourite Lee covers. I'd certainly rank it in my top 5.

The value on it is a bit harder, I believe, due to it being entangled with a rather major 1st appearance just 2 issues before (no matter how right or wrong that is), with just one issue in between. But I believe it's value is increased, due to this cover.

    133. Some I never heard of - Match, Lifeguard, Squid Boy? Others I couldn't get the spelling right. Cool quiz, though. Why is Wonder Man purple?

That's Simon's ionic form. Been a thing since the Busiek/Perez Avengers run.

You're also not missing much on Lifeguard. One of Claremont's 'genius' creations from Xtreme X-Men. Awful character. Awful.

  7. I just finished reading the Stargirl Spring Break Special that had the image at the end I posted earlier. Overall the story was about the 7 Soldiers Of Victory, and was a nice little tale about both the GA and modern versions, focused mostly on the sidekicks. Certainly hard to recommend at today's prices, but this was a fun little tale, but it does leave you on a bit of a cliffhanger for Stargirl #1, which I didn't even know was happening, but if this is the creative team, I think I may dip my toe back into monthly comics (I'd been waiting for the JSA to make their comeback, and my other perennial buy, Fantastic Four, I've just lost interest in, and I'm waiting to buy Hickman's X-Men in collected edition for now).

Yes, like Suspense 3 and other truly classic cover books which have significantly higher value than their neighboring mid-run issues, here's a few more:  :luhv:

Golden Age (1938-1955):Superhero, All-American Comics #61 (DC, 1944) CGC VF- 7.5 Off-white to white pages....

This one can't count. It's the first appearance of Solomon Grundy, a fairly major and consistent villain, who would have to have some bearing on the book's price.

  9. You gloat about scamming an international buyer who you know (at that time) has no recourse to get their money back, as far as you knows. You call them and inexplicably, their whole country, for trusting you (Australians make the best targets), and eBay refuses to even do anything about the abuse. A few months later you accidentally send the product anyway, panic, and ask the buyer you scammed if he'd kindly send back the product he'd scammed you for. Customer says no, of course, but despite months of harassing emails from a man who is clearly deranged, still offers to pay (customer had been refunded because he worked at a bank and knew how to game the system! That's brazenly anti-scammer and shouldn't be allowed). You threaten lawyers in reply. Customer throws up hands at mention of lawyers and replies that okay, it's now out of my hands. I'll await further payment instructions from your lawyer.

During this whole time  your negatives are piling up, and customer imagines eBay took a look because now you're NARUed. Naturally you send out a mass email blaming customers, your enemies.

How could Mr. Simmons continuously represent that Spawn was the first African-American superhero?  That is ludicrous.  Clearly no one edited that POS book.

First African-American superhero that he cared about?

One of my all-time favorite captions on the cover of Challengers of the Unknown #1:

"Our young captor from OUT OF SPACE left the top off of our cage......."

Did the young captor live in a small studio apartment? Was he a hoarder and space was becoming sparse?

They saw him eating avacado toast and immediately went *gasp* "YOUNG CAPTOR!".
